I'm buying parts, need pricing help

Recommended Posts

I found a local guy parting out an 1978 F250. Can yall post me some pricing info on the drivetrain parts. Like, the rear axle Dana60, front axle Dana44.

I have a 2WD Comanche which I want to convert to 4WD, what other parts would I need? please post a price with the part. I want a strong drivetrain that could withstand high tourqe. Also do I need the stering box and fron leaf springs with the front axle?

Thank you all

the springs would be atrocious. they are way to stiff for your little truck. steering box wouldn't even fit. You really only need the axles. What gears are in them? what gears are you looking to run in the end?

Rear axle if it is in "good" shape 150.. front axle if inn good usable condition 250. By usable I mean brakes are good, as well as steering parts.

Keep in mind these will be 8 lug axles. If the rear axle's brakes are bad... it will be cheaper to convert to discs. The f250 axle was different then the f150 axle as far as axleshafts go. gearing will be more then likely 3.54 so plan on regearing.

These are just about as bolt up as you can get for a YJ. Steering mods and rear spring perches have to be changed, but just about a bolt up proposition. If you have any more questions ask.

Also if it has a NP435 give 150 for it. Especially if you want a good crawling trans. AA sells a kit to adapt it to the 2.5/4.0 as well as the np231.

I have stripped more then 1 ford in my back yard. Ask jeff what I can make a f100 look like in a days time.

The "NP435" is the transmission likely to be in the F250? So you recomend just the axles, and forget about the leaf springs, and when it comes to the steering I would be getting just whats hooked up to the axle, not the steering box, but I would need the rods that go to it? So just to clarifly things here's a listing of what I think I'm getting

Front Axle (with the steering parts, not steering box)

Rear Axle

Transmission if its "NP435"

Oh and pete. So I won't need the leaf springs from the rear? Wouldn't I need stronger leaf springs to run a higher torque?

:huh???:

Instead of running those insanely stiff leafs, I would run MJ leafs with either an AAL in there, or fab yourself an anti-wrap bar to keep everything in check.

what were you planning for an engine?

What kind of wheeling are you expecting to do?

Size of tire?

Yes no steering box. everything from the drag link down. If you take the rear axle... don't forget to get the e-brake cables, and spring plates.

The f250 leaf springs will have way to much spring rate for a light truck like a MJ. As Pete suggested.. add an anti-wrap bar, and call it good.

In a few years I plan on doing an engine swap to a newer diesel engine. like the 3.0L CRD.

Wheeling wise I want to be more crawling than mudding, and it needs to be a daily drive and well capable off road. going to be in woods a lot.

Size of tire will be 37 probably, in a couple years I'll prolly go 40s when I get a D60 front end and the diesel engine.

I'll need to go ahead and make my lift high enough for it all now. And I seen some people cut their fenders, I have some to practice on, but I might not do that untill I get the D60 front end. If I don't need to cut them I probably won't

BTW, whats AAL? and it looks like i'll be fabing myself some anti-wrap bars, lol. :clapping:

thanks for all your help, and everyones help
