pug Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 I have a 1990 2.5 full gauges. With in the past week i noticed. Once when the gas gauge gets about half full it starts bouncing around .Then goes to full and stays. Is this normal for this year of vehichle
jimoshel Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 You have a bad sending unit. The winding is open in the middle. From full to mid you have current flow, therefore a reading. At the half full the slider goes across the opening, thus the jumping of the guage. On less than half full the slider is on the open side, therefore no current flow, no reading, The guage reads full.I'd just fill up at half full and not worry about it.
jimoshel Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 AutoZone lists both a new unit and a repair assy.Check with your local Auto parts store.
mvusse Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Sending units for Comanches are NOT available anywhere. Only for Cherokees. All the parts stores wrongly list the Cherokee one as being interchangeable with Comanches. They are not. Comanche is mirror image from Cherokee, and the pan inside the Comanche gas tank interferes with the Cherokee sending unit.
