SkipshotMJ
Hey guys. Guess what?! Another problem! who would've guessed it haha. So this time its a battery/ starting issue. When ever i start it these days it turns over REALLY, REALLY slow. At first i thought it was a bad alternator (mine squeaks a lot which has led to my trucks permanent nickname: Mr. Squeakers. :ack:), but i took it out and had it checked at the local auto-zone and they said it was good. So then i checked the battery, but they said it was 100% charged and it was fine. Here's where it gets weird. While I'm driving the voltmeter fluctuates a lot and its mostly in the low range and even in the red sometimes. Also, today after a 45 minute drive to play paintball i turned off my truck and then turned it back on and it started up fine. After i played i drove the same route back home and stopped at a gas station, filled up, and tried to start my truck and it wouldn't even turn over. I'm thinking this whole thing is related to each other. I was going to look at the wiring first thing tomorrow, but what do you guys think? CWLONGSHOT
Remove the battery cables at the battery and completely clean and replace them. look close at your cables, all three of them, pos, Neg and charge. its likely not a bad idea to replace them with the largest ones available. Sometime back I added a big alt, new battery and made up custom cables for these as well as my winch... MAN WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!! Take your time and look close, corrosion will cause resistance, resistance causes heat, heat kills batteries... DC electrical is like a water pipe, the bigger it is the better it flows. (With in reason.). If you interested in what and how I did mine, its all in my build thread in my sig line. CW

Use the volt guage with a grain of salt ;) They have been known to lie on more than one occasion.
pilotblake
I have Triumph TR6 that in high school was my project/DD. I could not for the longest time figure out why my car would turn over fast, then slow and eventually the battery would be dead after a few days :wall: . Redid alot of wiring, alternator, battery, and finally gave up and assumed it was a ghost in the system somewhere. The car was notorious in high school. It was a convertible, and the deal was I would give you a ride, but you had to push start me first. I never had a shortage of friends or people willing to give me a push so it was never a real big issue. Anyway, out of a whim I had bought another TR6 that had a big block sitting in it , and the guy had a new starter that was actully for the original inline 6. I had had several other starters go out on me, so I figured what the hell new starter, put it on. Point of the long story is that the starter was my issue. Never had an electrical issue since. I probably would have never figured it out otherwise. I really do not know why the battery would run down due to the starter, but who knows :dunno:
