I gotta problem. Ran out of gas, filled it up, now it's buckin'- snortin'- won't idle. Acts like it's still running out of gas. Tried to bleed the fuel rail. Ideas? ('89 Renix 4.0L)

:agree: Might have sucked up some crap when you ran out. AND, where did you get the gas from when you ran out? Gas can, or fresh out of a pump?

Filled it up at my regular station. I've been told that the old story about picking up stuff from the bottom of the tank when you run out is a load of the famous substance, since the pump always draws from the bottom of the tank and the gas is always sloshing around and keeping everything stirred up. Right or wrong?

Changed the fuel filter. Looks to be org. Gonna cut it open to see whats inside. Still running rough. Won't idle. Pressure @ fuel rail is 15 lbs. Is their another filter?

There's a sock on the bottom of the fuel pump. It's a filter, just called differently. I would pull the pump and replace the sock. About $10.

It's more work than replacing the in-line filter, but not too bad. Make sure the tank is no more than 1/2 full. No need to drop the tank or drive shaft, but removing the drive shaft does give you a lot more room to work under there and will make it much easier.
