DansGreyMj Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 I got some 97+ doors to put on my MJ and have a few questions for those who have done it. How did you mount the striker plate? would the old lock cylinder swap over so I can use the same key?
jbhill Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 i swaped my lock cylinder over, i had to use the retaining clip out of the new door and flip it around. most people use the stock hole for the factory latch, but mine didnt quite line up like that.i also drilled out the 4 or 5 welds that hold that sticker plate out. i used the stock XJ bolts with nuts and big fenderwashers. [edit] sorry, ill try to get a blurrier pic...lol
johnnyc Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 When I did mine, the lock cylinders from the new door and the old door had different diameters. So I couldn't use the older cylinders. I took the new cylinders out and had them redone to match my ignition key. Cost $7 at the locksmith who hangs out at the local Pick-A-Part parking lot.
jbhill Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 the ones i had in mine were out of a 90...fit right in. here's a pic of the 90 lock cylinders, and the 86 wagoneer handles/mirrors.
DansGreyMj Posted September 10, 2009 Author Posted September 10, 2009 So those are later model doors with 90 lock cylinders? And Johnny does a 92 still use a single soded key or is it double sided?

DansGreyMj Posted September 11, 2009 Author Posted September 11, 2009 Iwas going to unbolt my doors from the hinges and cut the lower third off like people do to make them removeable.
