drive shaft

Yes, a 2wd MJ will have to be shortened. You may get lucky with a 2wd XJ shaft, but take a lot of measurements before you go slapping it in there. Either way you'll need to put on a 4wd yoke.

had to put new front yoke on it cause I went from BA-10 output to 231 output.

I made the same mistake. Next shaft I have cut down, I'm going to give them the 4wd yoke and have them put that on right away, since they have to replace the joints anyway to ensure a proper balance.

i thought someone on this website slap one in from a 2wd xj and it fit perfect.

There are many things that affect driveshaft length. Engine, transmission, transfercase, axle, and lift can all determine what length you need.

There are at least 4 different lengths for a 2wd XJ, just depends on what those options add up to. You may get lucky with one, but none of us can say for sure either way. If you happen to have some 2wd XJ shafts laying around you can try them, they may or may not work.

To top it all off, I'm basing all this off of guesswork. I've never tried or compared lengths to see if this will work.
