so, my 3rd trip to mayo clinic for the '09 year so far. it's a 5 hour drive from here, but i don't usually complain because it's the only choice for what i've got. so i had appointments today. i decided i would just make a day trip of it to save on hotels, food, and to save my wife from being alone with the kids for too long. so i spent 10 1/2 hours in the car, and 2 hours having tests done on my heart. i left at a little after 4 am. i'm a bit tired.

good news is my hearts still ticking. bad news is, it's still no good. :headpop: hey, i got to spend 10 hours by myself and burn through $70 in gas. i did try a new burger joint i've been wanting to try. of course, i'm supposed to stay away from burger joints. :shake:

i'm going to bed. i might sleep through tomorrow. :D

no stress test this trip. it was alot of blood work and ekg, and this very specialized test. the special one is cool because i was on the study for it in 02 that got it approved by the fda. anyway, it measures the resistance in the heart and arteries. on a scale of 1-5 with 5 being the best, and 1 being, well, let's just say ...bad.

i measured a 1.58 in january. yesterday i measured a 1.77. that means that the new drug they added in jan has gotten things to level off. it was getting much worse, so this is great news.

this also means i feel better so i can work on my project vehicles and train my dogs. cool.

Better is indeed better. I'd probably pay more attention to my diet though if I were in the same boat. :ack:

yah i know. the bummer is that my problem isn't really effected by what i eat, it's a cellular thing in the lining of the arteries. so i can only have a cheeseburger every now and then, but it doesn't help my situation, well, yet. i don't drink regular pop anymore and no caffeine. i usually have just water. it's been 7 years since i've had a good old mountain dew. on a very rare occasion i have a small glass bottle of good old coke, but that's only like every couple years or so.

i eat mostly venison, elk, buffalo meat instead of beef and pheasant, grouse, partridge, duck, and goose instead of chicken. i don't drink alcohol really, i might have a drink once a year if that.

i quit alot of things cold turkey and have never looked back. there are some bad things i still have now and then as a treat. i just wish giving everything up would help me sooner than later if ever (cardiac wise). truth is i'll end up dieing of my disease long before a "regular" blockage could get me.

but for now, i'm feeling pretty good and can do more now than i could 4 months ago. that's all good!

Other than the lack o' Dew it doesn't sound all that bad. I love venison. :D But I imagine it means a whole lotta eating at home. Not a lot of places near me that have cow alternatives. :shake:
