SuicidalPenguin
Here's something major that has started up. This area (waiporous) was the best and biggest offroad playground near here. Here's a little copied from their website. GAMP is now official and in effect Here's what it all means to us: 1. Bike Users: There are less than 5km of BIKE only trail in the Ghost. However, Bikes can use all the truck and quad trails. 2. Quad Users: Those of us who use quads to recreate will be able to utilize the largest amount of the remaining trail network. Quads can also go on truck trails 3. Trucks: limited to less than 50km of trails. Meadow creek trail and Lost Knife seem to be the longest routes, along with the trail to the falls (but not from Sept 1 - Oct 31). Nothing East of the 940. No Cow Lake, No Little Red Deer, No Harold Creak. No Wolftrap. No Killer Cutline. No Cabin Creek (bypass or trail). The government has chosen to implement a "Closed unless posted Open" Policy for the Ghost, which means - unless there is a sign explicitly stating you can use the trail, the trail is officially closed to motorized recreation. In terms of enforcement, expect a "soft start" of warnings and explanations of what all the changes are for the next few months. However, make no mistake, this is the law of the land in the GHOST FLUZ. Ghost/Waiporous is our only winter offroad area. The other area is closed from October 1 to March
feerocknok
:headpop: I can't believe environmentalists will allow 2-strokes out on trails before trucks. I'm no tree-hugger, and I love 2-strokes, but I can COMPLETELY understand why people are attempting to ban them. Out 2-stroke jet-ski coats the water with oil and gas. My trucks, I believe, cause minimal damage in comparison. Most trucks are quieter than 2-strokes, produce less harmful emmisions, but the dumbasses out there are ruining for everyone by leaving trails and spinning tires. Sure it can be fun to rebel and all that hubble-abluble, but I'm getting sick of all this. Out by me, there is one good spot for hill climbs. One!!! And it's been closed! It's a freaking butte made of cinders!!!! There are no plants!!!! I freaking hate trail closures. Makes me wish I'd be involved in a different sport, where I wouldn't have to upset or let down by hippies, and I LOVE offroading. Why do they have to ruin it? If off-roaders were educated properly, or used common sense, there'd be alot less of an issue. I'm upset at so many things when I read this stuff. Please, excuse my rant. pingpong
Here In VA we have lost some of our trails as well. The reason why we lost access to one.. was abuse by wheelers going on/crossing private property, and ppl ripping donw posted signs. The only way to beat legislators is to get involved, and pony up the money for orginaztions like United four wheel drive.. blue ribbon coalition, ETC. and atc. Also if you see a yahoo doing something wrong or illegal tell him to stop or call the law, and take a pic, and take down his plate number. Remember public land is only public till someone abuses it, or complains about the way it is used
SuicidalPenguin
yeah, the truck trails were reduced to 50km. Before all this, we had at least a couple hundred km's of trail in this area. Something like 120acres they shut down. Here's an example of how bogus this is. And yes, that is a fullsize 3/4ton Dodge That is one of the trails that was taken away from trucks, and given to quads and bikes only. It measured 15.5 feet from sign to sign. 87manche
That's not a trail, it's a damned road. I've got county roads that are in worse shape/narrower than that "Trail"

87manche
my deal is this. I've seen trails that were jeep only, they're not rutted excessivly and the area around the trail was clean and untouched. Then I've seen ATV trails. Asshats on ATVs at wide open throttle kicking up dirt/rutting the trail, and taking shortcuts through the surrounding land because they're small enough that they can. So which is more damaging?
Bacon
the problem, and this is EVERYWHERE, is the difference between "offroaders" (us, people who take offroading seriously as a pastime), and "yocals". just local idiots who have a 4x4 and go out terrorize the country-side-usually drunk. it only takes a couple of those idiots to ruin things for those of us who actually care about offroading here in New Brunswick, we're not facing trail closures yet, but we are facing vehicles being pulled off the road. these are vehicles that are properly built (99xj, 3" lift, 31" tires; 03TJ 4"lift, 35's; and others) check out www.4x4preservation.ca for more info
pingpong
Alot of states are tightening up on lift laws.. since the auto makers are making vehicles with lower bumper heights. You are also 100% correct about the yocal rednecks going out in the woods and "rooting it up" or the younger generation "saying it not posted, lets go there" Keep in mind every piece of property in the United States is owned by someone, and if you perscribe to its not posted... it must be legal mentallity.. send me your address, and I will wheel in your front yard

I've found that donuts are way cooler when you're locked.
