Falder Posted February 26, 2009 Share Posted February 26, 2009 So I had oil being pushed into my air box, cleaned out the vacuum hose to the manifold and replaced others (old/brittle so a few broke, ran the lines per my Chilton manual). Well now it seems like oil is being collected and burnt in my exhaust manifold. I can see it coming out of the flange on the bottom of the manifold. I just R&R'd my valve cover but since I'm getting so much smoke actually out of the exhaust I'm pretty sure its not just oil leaking @ the valve cover, plus I have looked and see no leaks @ the valve cover. I thought maybe the oil got there by running it the couple times I have with some of the vacuum hoses off and it would clear up when I replaced them but I can see that more is collecting. Take a used empty oil/tranny and disconnect the hose and move it to a bottle, make sure it can move the nasty blow by down hill. Have tried the remedy's (sea foam, Lucas, and a couple of others.) they do not work in the long run, they are just a band-aid. Truly the only way is the rebuild it, like project88mj said to stop it. sinkrun Posted February 26, 2009 Share Posted February 26, 2009 I replaced all my ccv stuff with new from NAPA and no luck also cleaned out the valve cover. Then I installed a 2000 4.0 valve cover with the full baffel and FIXED 100% I recomend this with and early 4.0 blowing oil. I think 94 up have baffels but not sure. deziped Posted February 27, 2009 Share Posted February 27, 2009 Normally oil blowing in reverse of it's intended route is caused by excessive pressure build up in the engine as a result of worn out parts such as Oil rings, valve seals, improperly seating valves, a clogged up CCV system, etc.. The CCV was not designed to do any thing more than suck out the vapors that accumalte in the engine. It was not designed to reduce pressure other than that as a consequence of removing the vapors. So be prepared to live with the results of blow-by back thru your breather pipe and , if it's excessive, out of your valve cover top and bottom. It's gonna continue until you alleviate the problem with a rebuild of something internal. :headpop: so it can't Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
