Giffer
is the steering column in the MJ the same out of any year of XJ?? i have an 88 and i looks like mine was stolen at one point. all the covers are gone, the ignition, and the cover under the dash. so all the wires all all exposed and i have to start it with that key ring looking thing, I'm not 100% on what it would be called. Geonovast
I believe any of them up to 96 will work, but I'm not 100% on that. Granted things like tilt/wiper delay/cruise may be different than the one you have, and key lock will be different 91+. I think they may have changed the size at some point after that. wolfpackjeeper
I am not sure if the entire column changes, but at least the locks do at 1991. They go to the Chrysler style locks instead of the GM
Eagle
Any XJ column up to 1994 will work. 95 and newer are Chrysler columns with an air bag. Not sure about locks -- I think they started using Chrysler-pattern keys in 1991, but it might have been 1990.
wolfpackjeeper
1991, I parted out a 1990 a while back and it had the GM locks.

Geonovast
The "ignition switch" is actually near to the bottom, which is activated by the key cylinder.
