Can newer parts work on older years?

I'm looking to buy a 1986 comanche, but it dosent have tilt steering wheel.

I saw on e-bay that some was selling a 1987 comanche tilt steering column so I was wondering if it would work on a 86?

The steering components will certainly work. You might have to transfer some switches and/or wiring over from your 86 column but those two years were both firmly AMC vehicles. I think there's a good chance the 87 column may just drop right in.
