Gauge swap, little help please?
rubiconron replied to lostissues's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I just did the gauge swap on my MJ. I'm having problems with the oil reading though. The oil gauge stays in the horizontal position pointed towards the radio. There is no difference if the oil pressure switch under the hood is plugged in or not. It stays in that position always. Is there something wrong with the oil pressure switch? Any suggestions? Thanks, Ron -
Oil everywhere on my 4.0
rubiconron replied to rubiconron's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I don't think the thread got hijacked..... This is all very good information. I will be working on getting my hoses cleaned or replaced. I'll also do a compression check on mine. I've got new plugs for it so I might as well check it. I'll be checking back for updates!!!!! Thanks, Ron -
Oil everywhere on my 4.0
rubiconron replied to rubiconron's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I got the part from Orielly's about 2 weeks ago. It helped some but I still have a BIG problem. My entire driver's side frame rail is covered with oil just behind the airbox. My air filter is FULL OF OIL. I have to go buy a new one now it will hardly even move. It looks like oil is coming from the front hole (very bottom of the picture) in the valve cover and being pumped into my airbox. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem? Thanks again, Ron -
I will take pictures. As I said in the first post...It is in rough shape. It looked a lot like my Pioneer model. It was sitting on the side of the highway earlier this week. I left my card in the truck and asked the guy to call me if he was interested in selling it. He called that afternoon. So I will probably buy it if all of the details work out. Thanks for the input guys!!!! Ron

Did the Comanche ever have a Honcho edition? I think I saw one with Honcho II decals on it. I'm not sure what year it was but it was 4wd with a roll bar. It was in pretty rough shape, but I was just wondering if it was a unique option or commone one. Thanks, Ron

What does it mean when my Trans button on the dash lights up? I know there is a little light that is supposed to come on if I flip the switch up. That doesn't work. BUT sometimes when I'm driving the trans picture lights up. It goes off if I hit the button and won't come back on. Just wondering what that means. Thanks, Ron

steering column questions
rubiconron replied to rubiconron's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Jeepco How difficult is it to change from column shift to floor shift? What parts would I need? Obviously I have a tilt column already. So.... I know I'll need the floor shifter assembly.....anything else???? Thanks, Ron -
I am looking at installing a tilt column in my truck. Is it easy to wire the cruise control and change the multifunction switch on the column if my tilt column doesn't come with cruise? Man its hard finding a auto tilt column with cruise. My next thing will be the guages!!!! I am looking for a guage cluster with the column shift indicator in it. Seems pretty rare too. Thanks, Ron

What parts are necessary to add cruise control to my MJ? Obviously there is the column switch with all the buttons. There is the yellow(I think) controller box. There is the servo. What about the vacuum canister? Mine is a round one on the inside of my pass front fender. My truck is 1988 4.0 with auto. Do I need any more things? I'm going shopping at the JY this weekend. Thanks, Ron

Is there any way to convert a tilt, non column shift auto, to column shift? OR is there any way to convert an auto column shift to tilt? I have two columns one is a tilt with no shifter and one is non tilt with a shifter. My truck is auto on the column. I just want to know if I can use the two to make one or if I should just wait till I find an auto column with tilt. ANOTHER QUESTION What gm vehicles do these columns fit in if any????? Thanks, Ron

Next wiring question!!!! Interior Lights
rubiconron replied to rubiconron's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks for the help guys........well the ones that did help. I've never seen a bulb like that. It was just weird. I'm getting used to the parts stores not being able to look up parts for me though. I tried the light earlier but it was in the middle. I guess I need to toggle it up or down to make it work. I'll be working on that in the morning. Is there a fuse for them? Thanks, Ron -
Thanks for the wiring diagram fiatslug!!!!! That was a HUGE help. It is amazing to me that the radio even turned on in my Jeep. I had to cut EVERY wire except the ground to get it right. The PO had the continous power line taped up and hooked the radio into the acc power and then just ran a new line to a fuse for an acc connection. Needless to say when you shut the truck off it lost all memory. I've got the two door speakers working and I'm going to dive into the rear speakers tonight. Thanks again for all the help Ron

Sorry, My email address is ronnielbii@yahoo.com Thanks, Ron

Fiatslug will you email that to me? I can't read it on my screen. I need to print it. Thanks, Ron

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the radio of an 88? My wiring is all screwed by the PO. Thanks, Ron

Paint code location???

Thank you very much!!!!!!! Ron -
Since I'm pretty new to the "older" 4.0s...... How normal is this? Oil is everywhere on the drivers side underneath. The vent (PCV) on the rear of the valve cover is leaking badly. I can't seem to locate a new grommet for that. The dealer wants more than $20 for a little piece of rubber. Here's a pic. Image Not Found Thanks, Ron

Thanks for all the help. I got my horn fixed correctly last night. I blew the relay playing with it. So I had to buy a new one. My original problem was a bad ground. Going to get my inspection sticker today!!!!
