  1. Wow. Thank you very much for the help, I didnt expect to get a reply that fast. I would deffinetely jump after that 2,500 one if I had the money right now :/ And I really appreciate the offer for coming to help inspect one if we're passing through. Sadly, It's looking like my buying is going to be pushed back another month or so though. My father is having some health issues and can't really drive right now. I'm going to keep searching though and hopefully by the time I get the money he'll be healed enough. Once again, thanks alot. Knucklehead97
  2. Hey guys. Well, in about 2 weeks I should be to where I can finally buy my first truck. Which I really want to be a Comanche. So I decided to post this for some help searching for the one I want. (Mods if this was the wrong place to post this, I'm sorry. I was planning on posting another one in the wanted section when I officially have the money to buy with.) What I'm looking for is a Comanche near Northeast Alabama (I don't think my family will drive me very far, and I'm about 4 months away from my license. I'm in Gadsden.) I need it to be a '89 1/2 or higher year model because my father doesnt want me to be stuck with a Peugot (did I spell that right?) tranny. 4.0L inline 6 cylinder engine. 5-speed transmission and 4 wheel drive. I'd really love if it was a longbed because I need the extra space for loads, but if I have to I'll take a shortbed. Surface rust at most would be great, but I know it's hard to find one without alot of rust. I really need it to all run good and not have any major problems. If you guys around northern AL would just help me a little with finding this all, I would really appreciate it. Thanks. Knucklehead97
  3. Well I will be needing a bed, for camping, carrying wood, working, so I'm pretty sure that the Comanche is what I really want and need. I know theres going to be a couple thing that it lacks, such as a lil bit of room and better electronics (The electronics will be eventually be completely re-done and upgraded) and I was worried about not being able to carry more friends around, but then I remembered I'm the youngest in my group they're all soon to have their liscenses and vehicles. Even if I needed to carry more people, I have my parents Liberty or my brothers XJ that I can borrow. The upsides really outweigh the downsides to me. Thanks. Knucklehead97
  4. It was just a question on if thats what you're supposed to do or not, because I wouldnt be able to fit the tool box in the back while having a roll bar (I wouldnt think...) Knucklehead97
  5. Thats exactly what I plan on doing now. After I get all the regular things that need to be fixed, done. I'll probably be trying to add a XJ dashboard, steering wheel, and cruise control module. I'd really like to have cruise control >.> Knucklehead97
  6. Yeah I think I'll be going with a LWB. Just searched for images and they look really good when lifted right and colored decently (I can't stand light color's on vehicles >.>) Only worry is finding one up around Gadsden, been looking on Craigslist for 3 months and only 1 LWB has come up and it was rust-ridden. Knucklehead97
  7. Thanks for the pics! I think with a toolbox in the back (probably the first thing I buy for it, because of lack of extended cab) I'd like a LWB more. This will be a DD/slight offroading (nothing I'd think the longer bed would harm) It's actually quite a short truck if you think about it, even with the 7 foot bed. Toyota's come standard with a 7' bed If I remember correctly. A quick question, how do you mount foglights to the roof without having a bar behind the cab to mount them on? Do you just drill holes and run the lines? Thanks. Knucklehead97
  8. I'll just keep it stock and save up then. I can't wait to get an MJ and start working on it, though.
  9. I think when I get to the point of buying bigger tires and a lift kit, I'll stick with a 3 inch leaf spring metric ton kit (probably the Hells Creek ones, really good priced it seems) a couple of Rusty's Offroad 3 inch front coils and 31" tires. Eventually will add coil spacers and leaf spring shackles or AAL's to achieve 5" of lift when I have enough cash laying around for the extra parts needed. Knucklehead97
  10. ^ Exactly what I was about to ask.
  11. Well it was great getting to hear about the great transformation from a stock, to a offroad dream that you did (while being on a budget). And I'd live with it being a little uneven, but I'm going to try my best to have it as close as I can to being level. The most I'd be hauling (as far as I know of course) would just be a riding lawnmower, or a bed full of wood/rocks. I'll check out the Hells Creek springs though, they seem to have done a good job on yours! I was thinking about doing an SOA rear (eventually) what are ya'lls intake on doing them? Thanks. Knucklehead97
  12. Oh and Mr. Pete Montie, I would like to say that today my dad walked in with a copy of S-A designs Jeep Cherokee builders guide, that he's planning on using to help fix my brothers XJ's problems. So I picked it up and read the whole thing, running into the section about your '88 MJ, that was probably the best read I've had in months! Beautiful truck.
  13. Well I've only see a short bed in real life, so I really can't judge from just pictures if I like one or the other better. I'll be searching for a long bed to look at and decide which I would want more. The one thing I don't want mine to have, is a lower front then the back. I hate the looks of trucks that are un-equally lifted. I'll be mudding kindof in it, but not like rockcrawling super suspension type things. Just trails and highgrass. Knucklehead97
  14. I would keep track, but my dialup internet won't load it >.> Gotta love livin in the country. Knucklehead97
  15. Wow. Thats really good mileage for a pickup, I was expecting 17-19 at most with a 4.0L 5-speed 4X4. My brothers 97 XJ, 4.0L, AX4, 4X4 with 33's gets about 21 and it only has a cheap cold air intake on it (soon to be snorkel, flowmaster exhaust, and performance chip upgraded. Wonder what the mileage will be then >.>)
  16. ^ I agree. Except all of them down here that I see, are pretty much bad cops. I've met good ones though too. But lets not get off subject. I've been wondering for awhile, whats the average gas mileage on the Comanches?
  17. Oh, I thought the options were 6 and 8 foot, thats what it says on KBB >.< I'll check the state laws, I hate cops. Down here in AL they'll get you for absolutely anything, and theres one sitting at the bottom of every mountain waiting to catch you speeding.
  18. I deffinetely won't be settling for a 2.5. I want the same thing thats in my brothers, the 4.0 I6. I love the ammount of horsepower and torque thats in it, along with the sound (gets really good gas mileage too, in his at least) Which I have got a question about your signature Pete M, how can I check for rust before I buy the truck? I don't think the seller would let me rip up his carpets beforehand >.
  19. I think a Comanche is deffinetely going to be my first truck, I've read multiple threads these past couple days and they've made me want one more then anything. If I have to fix it up some, who cares cause once I fix most of it up it'll keep running for years longer then these foreign "smart" cars! If I can find a long bed that looks good enough, I'll go with it cause I will be opening a mowing business next summer with a friend of mine (don't wanna dish out the couple hundred for a trailer) And the reason I was wanting more seats, is cause I've already got a 4 yr old nephew (and 2 other nephews growing to that age) that loves riding with me and my brother in his XJ. I'd also just like the extra seats for friends, but I'll live with 3. I'm thinking of adding the bucket seats from a Ford Ranger to it instead of the benchseat though, cause the middle console folds up to reveal a third-connected seat while keeping the extended comfort of the buckets on the sides. I've also heard of people adding another row of seats into the bed of the truck, is that street legal if you do it right? (just an idea thats been passing my mind) Thanks yet again. Knucklehead97
  20. I guess it'll all come down to if I can find a decent one at a good price then. I'm still fretting over 6 foot or 8 foot bed >.
  21. I will be getting into a autoshop class next year, I would be in one right now but I'm homeschooled, and tradeschools won't take you until you're 16. I'm also hoping to get an apprenticeship at Rustys Offroad. And last but not least I'm hoping to fit in some welding classes from my dads friend. I am going to be keeping the Comanche stock until I get everything basic fixed in it. But when I get enough, I'd like to lift it 3-5 inches, add some 32 or 33's, and do some custom bumpering/foglights. And for the thing about painting it urban camo, my brother already took that color >.> I'm going with straight bedlined black. Do Comanches come with an A/C? Cause I've seen alot of people talking about how theirs didnt have one (I wasnt sure if they meant it didnt come with one, or didnt have one that worked.) Thanks. Knucklehead97
  22. Well I am 15, I set my profile as 20 years old because I didnt know the age limit on this site. I've been on some which had an 18 year old at least access requirement, but were just simple forums which shouldve been teenager accessable. I think if I can find one in good enough condition, with a 4.0, AX-15, and 4X4 then I will get it. My other options would be a Toyota or Nissan Hardbody, which I've heard are great, but I'd rather have something in the end which I can strip down and turn into a pure project truck. I know one thing though, I cannot wait to get one to start working on and customizing it :rotf: Been getting measurements from my brothers XJ for a front bumper, and headlight rewiring :D Thanks for the help guys. Hit you up in the future for some lift kit help. Thanks. Knucklehead97 (which in case you were wondering, is deffinetely a Five Finger Death Punch referance.)
  23. Hey guys. I don't know if this is the right place to post this and I'm sorry if it isnt. But I'm a 15 year old from Alabama and I'm going to be buying my first vehicle sometime later this year. I've been interested in Jeeps ever since my parents bought a '06 Liberty and my brother bought a '97 Cherokee with 6 inches of suspensions and 33's. So I want my first vehicle to be a Jeep, but I also want it to be a pickup truck. Of course the Comanche caught my eye one day while researching stuff, but I've been skepticle about it because of it's regular cab and old age. I was on JeepForum.com and they told me to come to this site for some good information on the MJ Comanche. So if you guys could run me through some basics about it and all of that, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks Knucklehead97
