  1. I found an easier way to do the switch...just swap the entire vehicle!
  2. Thanks, that is very helpful. Where do you get this posilok? I've seen it mentioned in some other threads.
  3. Who makes that bumper?
  4. I've searched on this issue, but need some help connecting the dots. In order to disengage 4WD on my 88/NP231/AW4/4.0 I need to do the whole reverse, drive a bit, try, neutral, drive, reverse, etc until it will come out of 4WD. I know it isn't just the light because I usually do this in a parking lot, and drive in a tight circle to test and can feel it when it disengages. My tires all have precisely the same amount of air in them. 4WD is fairly difficult to engage. It works, but the lever is pretty hard to pull from 2wd to 4hi, don't know if that is related. Most of the threads I read about are related to axle disconnect, but my problem sounds like it is happening inside the TC, no? What can I do to speed up disengagement? New TC? Or is there something else I can do? Its important that I can disengage without messing around too much because I cannot get out of my driveway without 4WD. Even long after the roads are totally dry, I am still using 4WD for a brief run up my driveway. Then, i'd like to disengage to make the sharp turns out of my neighborhood without shuttering. Thanks!
  5. Where were these pictures taken? Looks like fun.
  6. Can anyone point me towards a write up or some info on swapping in an AW4 in place of my AX-15? I'm looking for a shopping list - but any process info would be great too. Thanks!
  7. You can easily get that much, I would think - probably depending on your locality. I paid $2300 for mine, and it is fairly similar to yours, though only 115k miles.
  8. I had a Ford Taurus that had struts for the hood, you should be able to get them off of 86-95 Ford Tauruses. That hood was probably a smidge heavier than an MJ hood, but it should still work pretty good. You can get them brand new for like $30 a pair on ebay. Should be pretty cheap and plentiful in the boneyards.
  9. Yep, totally free and open source, like phpbb. No ad's or anything.
  10. Its basically a web application, like phpbb is. It has a front end and a back end, like phpbb. Instead of only administering forums though, it allows you to administer an entire website through an administration section. As an example, if you look at the jeepsunlimited site, you see all these articles, links, banners and neat stuff. They didn't have to do any html or programming to make that stuff work. They just go into the administration section, type the content into a rich text box, and publish it. It automatically shows up wherever they told it to. It allows you to let users see things that non-users can't, and more. From there, you can have stuff like arcades, polls, guest books, calendars, pretty much anything you can think of, that just plug into your CMS, with no coding. Very easy to use, and very flexible. Let me know if I can help. The CMS that jeepsunlimited and I use is called Joomla. More information at www.joomla.org.
  11. /agree I was told the exact same thing when I was shopping for my XJ, and it makes good sense.
  12. I can help you with whatever you need. I was a web developer in a previous life, and still do a lot of web application development for fun. I'm the author of PUArcade, which is a popular arcade component you can see on a lot of websites. Are you planning on using a content management system? I like the CMS that jeeps unlimited uses: www.pragmaticutopia.com. Shoot me a PM.
  13. Welding is an ability that you have. It can be learned, but there are just natural welders out there. I suggest you research, do more research, take a class, and then decide if you want to spend the money on the equipment. Welding machines lead to other machines. I personaly have a horizontal band saw, Chop saw, drill press, and 2 different cutting torch setups. Did I mention I own to welding machines, and looking to buy a third, cause I didnt buy a big enough one the first 2 times I'm ok with that. I've been a woodworker and shade tree mechanic since I was young, so my basement and garage are already pretty well littered with gear. Sounds like I want to buy a bigger welder than I would have thought, as a couple of you mentioned not to bother with something too small, or else I'd want to replace it. Also, it sounds like Mig is the way to go, and 220V, not 110. I'll probably see how a class goes before I buy one though.
  14. I'm in the Hebron CT area. Are you familiar with it? By Marlborough, Colchester, etc. Yeah, I think I'm gonna try and do the class at a community college thing. I'm hoping to find one nearby that is a not for credit type course, so I don't have to deal with application fee's and actually enrolling in the college. I know it very well. I have a bunch of friends and wheeling buddies out that way!!! Are you a member of any local clubs? CW No, I am only now getting into wheeling, which is part of the reason I just bought my MJ. Presently, I am trying to find somewhere to do it in CT - so far not an easy thing. I spent the last several years in the go-fast community (right now its an SRT4), so I don't know a lot of off roaders around here yet.

  16. I want to start learning to weld. Eventually, I'd like to make things like bumpers and exhaust repairs. What equipment would you recommend for me to get started? Also, any good resources to learn the basics? Thanks!
