  1. What are the easiest and most reliable way to identify a Dana 44. I thought I found one the other day in a 1990 cherokee because I could see it had the very wide brake shoes on it, but some seem to believe that xj only had them from 87-89. I could not get under to look at the housing because it was sitting on the ground with no wheels. I am able to get it for 50$ but I want to be sure it is a 44. Also I found a mj that I assume is a 86 because it had a 2.8 emblem on it and this also had the wide brakes, could this possibly have been a 44. Thanks for any help
  2. It is a metric ton with a Dana44.
  3. I would like to know if anyone can help me to decode my broadcast sheet which I pulled from under my seat today. I am most interested in determining my axle ratio and am hoping it can be found on this sheet. Every thing seems to have code letters for each item so I need to know if there is a way to decode them. It is a 1992 mj that was built on 12-6-91.
  4. I have the same problem with the seat in the mj I just bought and one of the ideas I am going to try is to take the back bolts out of the seat fastening brackets and install washers or short shim blocks between the floor and brackets to try and raise the entire back of the seat and see if it feels better.
  5. Thanks for the links on how to recalculate the ratio, but the first part of my question is how to find my trucks actual factory ratio. The reason for my question is that I am pretty sure it must be either a 4.10 or 4.56 (D44) because of the high rpm's at cruising speed. If that is the case I would like to increase my tire size to get to around 3.73.
  6. I would like to know what the formula is for determining rear axle ratio. Also is there a way to figure out what it will change to with different size tires?
