I have been trying for a week now to figure out how to search for info on 2.8 v6 engine swaps and everything I put in it throws out because it says it is a too common word. Why won"t it just search for what I am asking it for?
-
Well I could not resist buying another MJ. It is an '86 with a 2.8 v6, 2wd, longbed, automatic. It supposedly has a blown head gasket. Has not been on the road for 4 years. The body condition for an '86 is very good which is the reason I could not pass it up. I do not know yet what I will do with it. I have not brought it home yet. I am going to have to wait and really clean it up and pull the carpet out before I decide to put it on the road or use as a part vehicle. My questions are about the drivetrain. This engine is not fuel injected right? Also is the automatic just a simple 3 speed or is it an overdrive or lockup torque converter at least? Thanks for any info. Will post some pics when I get it home.

brake bleeeding question
creekscout replied to creekscout's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
OK I got the thing fixed. I followed the FSM procedure that eagle provided and it worked great. There was a huge amount of air still trapped in the system till I used his advice. Thanks for the great help everyone. -
I have a 92 metric ton mj that I replaced a section of rusted brake line to the rear. Now that I have bled all wheels I still do not have good pedal, almost all the way to the floor. I am wondering if the line that the arm to the rear end housing goes to can be causing my problem. Is there any possibily that this line got air into it and if so how do I get it out. I am really getting frustrated with this problem, it is not safe to drive right now. Any help will be greatly appreciated. thanks

I replaced the fuel pump in my 92mj and can not get it to work, unless I jump it with a battery charger[ inline fuse in the one lead] it will run then, I don't mean the jeep will run the pump runs. When I try to get it to run with the wiring connector plugged in I get nothing. I tried checking the voltage from the plug and sometimes I get a reading of around .5 volts. Need help this is driving me crazy. I have tried cleaning the ground wire back by the taillight, but that didn't seem to help. If it is a possible ground issue how can I test ground it to find out? Any resistor or fuses to check?

I would like to if a trailer hitch from a shortbed will fit a longbed?
-
Yep, that was the problem, found the ground wire back at the taillights and fastened it back and the pump works. Thanks for your help

I have to give you all the details first, we removed the tank to take the bed off in order to clean and paint the undercarriage as well as to work on the bed to get the entire truck painted. While the tank was out I decided to put in a new fuel pump to save a tougher job later on. Well now that we are ready to take it to the painter we sat the bed back on and temporarily hung the tank back under using bungies just so we could start it and move it around. The mj will not start now like this and I cannot figure out why. When I jump power right to pump I can hear it run, but when I plug it in and try to start it I can not hear it. Is there a way I can check to see if I am getting a good ground? Sorry for the long post.

the replacement pump I got is a 69302 bosch, but it is not the same as the one in the truck as it has a wire terminal connector that in no way will work on mine. I am calling the jeep dealer to see what they have listed for this truck.

I would like to know if the original equipment pump is a bosch pump. I took my pump out to replace it and it is a bosch, but the bosch pump I got to replace it with is not the same, so I am wondering if it is the original or not. It was still working ok but since I have the tank off to do bodywork I thought I might as well replace the pump now. Need help finding the right pump. 1992 4.0 auto 4x4 longbed metric ton.

Need opinions on what to do BAD!!

Well I'm going to the JY tomorrow afternoon to look for the Cherokee trim, I have half of what I need right now from a donor but am afaraid to remove it. Anyone know how to remove that trim that goes across the bottom of the doors??? (I'm assuming some sort of adhesive.) :dunno: -
It is a 92mj with 4.0 HO.

Thanks alot guys, I'll look for that one when he gets home with it.

My son changed the dash cluster from a 91xj parts vehicle that we have, into the mj for the full gauge package. We had run the xj first to make sure the gauges all worked fine. After doing the swap the temp gauge does not work. we swapped the sending unit from the xj to use. The question about the location of the sending unit for the gauge, it is the one in the thermostat housing isn't it, or is this one just to control the electric fans?

I have checked my front axle location since I installed 2" coil spacers and found that the driver side is 1 3/8" out more than the other side. I would like to know if it would be possible to correct this with a relocation bracket or do I have to spend the extra and get a adj. trackbar? Also I would like to correct the swaybar links length as well, what do you recommend for that? I also would like to know how difficult is it to replace control arm bushings? Thanks and sorry about the long post.

I want to change my tailgate handle and I was wondering what to watch for once I remove the three bolts holding the handle, how are the latches connected to the handle? Also I read some old posts that said 83-92 s10 handles are the same, but then someone said they had a problem with the bolt location being different, anybody know if that's so?

just to give an update, I am going to get new tires put on and then get the front end aligned. While I had a set of tires off my cherokee on the mj it did not have DW as bad as when the 55,000 michelins are on, and the alignment has not been checked since the 2 years that I own it. So I figure I might as well start there instead of changing out parts that I don't see anything wrong with, especially since I just did the coil spacer installation and it seems to be worse since then. I will keep updating the situation until I find the cure.

would like to know what size wrench or socket it takes for the castle nut on the track bar. also looking for the best place to buy a new track bar. I just installed 1 3/4" coil spacers, so I don't believe I need longer than oem for this situation. I am tryin to get rid of DW.

I am trying to find out if there ever was a tilt steering column with a column shift available for a 87 thru 92 comanche. I would like to put one in my 92mj, but have not seen any in a later mj. I have seen one in a 86mj in a upick it but was pretty sure it did not look like it would interchange with mine. Thank you any info

Last week I asked how to remove axle seal and was given some great advice as to how to remove the axle, have it out now but the problem is there is no inner seal on mine. Is this correct or was it repaired wrong previously? The original owner gave me all his repair invoices from the last 12 years and one did show an axle seal repair was done[didn't show which side]. Any advice?
-
It is a '92 metric ton. So both seals are at the axle end of the housing? I was surprised years ago when working on my '87 cherokee front axle seal replacement to find the seal was in near the carrier and required a special tool to remove it and to install it.
-
I need to replace an axle seal in my D44 and need some info on this type rear. Does it have a c clip in the housing that holds the axle, do I need a puller to pull the axle out? Any info will be greatly appreciated, thank you.

The other day my maint required light came on a few miles after it turned 120k miles so I suspected it might be an automatic service reminder. I called a Jeep dealer and they confirmed this as the likely cause. Now I need to know how and where to cancel out the light. It is a 92 comanche.

what is the proper name for the porcelain block with two terminals that is located on the inner fenderwell of the driverside of my 92 mj, mine is split in half[lenghtwise] but I don't know what to ask for. thanks

I am soon going to the automall(junkyard) looking for good doors for my MJ instead of repairing the rust on mine, and I want to know if I get doors with power windows from an xj will I be able to find some factory door wiring in the jambs to hook up to.
