Rockdrummer93's '99 MJ Trail Rig Build

Dropped it off at the muffler shop this morning. Not real sure what is going on it.. I just told the guy to put something on that wasn't too loud but still noticeable. Should be picking it up in the morning. -

Took the MJ on its first journey on the big streets today. Took it to my friend's place up the road a bit so we can take it to a muffler shop in the morning. Only one major problem I found, it has a major case of the death wobble. I believe its due to a wore out steering box but only time will tell. -

Installed some coil spacers on the MJ this afternoon. Got it all leveled out and looking good. Should be taking it to the muffler shop sometime this week to get an exhaust installed. -

Finally got back to the Jeep today. Got the door switches worked out.. was a bad ground. Still need to get an exhaust and windshield. Might be getting a set of 33x10.5s from a friend. So while I had time on my hands today I swapped two 33x12.5s off my dad's Jeep just to see what it would look like.. Looks pretty badass in my opinion. I like it lot. All it really needs is a coil spacer up front. Flexin a bit: Leveled out: That is maxed out front up travel and no rubbing: And back in the garage: -
That happened to me on my XJ but with the Tcase rear yoke. The yoke had about half an inch of play to slide back and forth. Good you found it. I was afraid that I would have losed my driveshaft haha.

Got the tank in. Fits all like it should. Drove the Jeep around my neighborhood. feels like it should. then again I can't notice a whole lot under 20mph. I have come to the realization that I'm not going to make my goal of taking the truck on the Christmas trip we have every year. It just needs too much and I just can't afford what it all needs at the moment or at least before the trip. So I'm just going to slow down a bit. Move the goal to around april and try and take it on the opening weekend at Uwharrie. So we'll see. Cause right now it needs a front axle (thats non disconnect), steering box, a few things for the interior, exhaust system and windshield. here is a picture of it outside the garage for once. -

Modified the 94 Dakota tank I had. Installed a vent neck and a roll over valve. Was at Lowes the other day for some other things and was snooping around and found some pvc parts that I figured I could make work. Now I just need to find a hose to connect the filler necks together then install it. -

I havent really started on it yet. Right now Ive just been trying to get it put back together so I can get it on the road. I probably won't be doing this mod anytime soon. But when I do I'll do a full detailed write up on a separate thread as well as on this this one. -

Got the rest of the cab painted yesterday. well kinda the driver side fender gave me fits. something was on the fender when I went to paint it so I had to strip it down and start over so thats only thing left. Got the bed on last night. A buddy of mine came over and help me maneuver that massive thing back onto the frame rails. won't be too much longer now till I have her on the road and get some miles on her as a '99. -

The Jeep is running on its own now. Got the tank and pump all worked out. Went to the junk yard to get a pump and the tank I pulled to get it was out of an 02 Dakota and was not the pump I was looking for but after looking at it I saw that I could make it work so I just grabbed the lot. after I rewired the connector hit the key and... the pump didnt work. after some investigation turns out it was a ground issue. I still need to figure it out but I ran a separate temporary ground just to see if I could get the jeep to run and it did.. -

We ran out of gas and he had so other work todo so we might try and get back to it this evening to get the new hinge plates welded on. Welds a purty but they'll hold lol -

Finished painting the front clip. I think it turned out pretty good. Also went out and pulled a Dakota tank. Still need to go back and get the pump assembly. I was fooling around in the garage yet again and might see away to do a dual tank. Since I have kinda decided to turn this into a expedition rig since I'm keep my Cherokee, dual tanks would come in handy. It would be done with an 97+ XJ tank. After doing some test fitting and taking some measurements it should work and be about the same clearance as a XJ. I will have to move some of the brake line mounts but thats about it. The hardest part of this will be the switches and what not. I won't be doing this anytime soon but when/If I do I'll do a full write up on the whole thing. -

Well started prepping the frame for the new plates. Took the radiator back out, pulled the steering box and started stripping the paint and gunk off. Unfortunately I found that the crack was bigger then I had thought. But that is most likely going to get fixed next weekend. I also found the old front shocks from my XJ that came with my 4.5" lift. I installed one to see how it fit and I like it. I did some experimenting and with a slightly longer bumpstop its perfect! Just enough up travel and TONS!! of down travel. The main reason I did this is that I'm not going to be able to have time nor the money to have the manche lifted by time the Christmas trip comes around and I'm taking the Comanche no matter what. SO.. I'm going to try and make it the best no lift on 31s off roader I can for now. At ride height: Max up travel: Before the added bumpstop: 5" short of being max down travel: -

Bed has been painted. I was going to go with inca gold but since the bed is beat to hell (you can't tell it in the pictures) and i didn't and couldn't find a decent bed. I just went with a desert tan. A lot more cheaper and easier to do.
