  1. Wow, I never even saw that picture. That got top dollar that's for sure. makes me wonder what mines worth. Mine is rust free as far as the eye can see :)
  2. Well, I past the Texas state inspection... don't really know how. I am all taged in Texas now. I guess that's good because it gives me time to do the exhaust right. My Kansas tag was due this month. Anyone like the magnaflow mufflers? I priced the front pipe, the cat, a magnaflow, and the rear pipe with my employee discount (Oreill'y) its all like $150.00! Not bad at all!
  3. http://cgi.ebay.com/...forcev4exp=true Appears to be base model. looks pretty clean. Good paint.
  4. I've never heard of Gibson exhaust. Is there any certain model or anything like that or just as long as its Gibson? I'm gonna do a search and see if I can find some sound clips

  6. 1989 Pioneer, long bed, 4x4 I have done a lot of work recently on my baby, as some of you know. Now that the major project is done (thank goodness) I can work on the more minor things. My exhaust system is shot. Everything except that header needs replaced. Theres holes everywhere. I noticed that there is no catalytic converter anywhere on this thing. Surely it came with one, but it doesnt appear that anything has been cut out or anything. I just moved to Texas and don't know the emissions laws. I do know they don't test emssions for the state inspections. What I would like to know, when I replace the pipes, should I add in a cat? Will it make my truck run any different? And while I'm at it, what is a good deep sounding muffler to use. I want it to sound beefy, but not obnoxious. Basicly, give me some ideas for the complete exhaust system.
  7. Update. I have now replaced EVERYTHING in the brake system, including all the lines for the rear system. I have temporarily bypassed the load adjusting brake valve due to a very striped, very siezed bolt. I ran a new line to the rear and plugged the line that would have gone to the load adjuster. I plan to put it back in at a later time. This is the new axle installed before I took out the valve. I will post more pictures soon. This is by far the biggest project I have done to her so far, its taken me 2 months or more and a little over a thousand bucks to finish. It's kind of a bummer that all my work can be summed up by saying, I put in a new axle and brake parts.
  8. Cool, that's about what I was thinking. I apperciate the help everyone. I love the Comanche Club and am happy and honored to be a member. Thank you so much everyone. I'll update again if something comes up
  9. I drove my truck! It appears to all be working normally!!! I think I might have a few minor normal adjustments on the rear shoes but all is well. I unfortunetly had to bypass the valve but its all working now. One last question (I hope) Will I need to do anything on down the road now that I put in a new axle and all new brake lines? I mean, should I retorque all the nuts after 500 miles or anything like that?
  10. Ok. As much as it pains me... I am going to have to bypass that load adjusting thing anyway. The line going into it is very rusted on. I soaked it with PB blaster and it still won't come off. Ended up stripping it all to hell to. So, at least for now, its gonna have to be bypassed. :( sadness
  11. Well, I feel completley dumb now..... It just hit me that I have a freaking axle in the back of my truck! So, I assume the load adjusting thing is most likely exactly where it should be! Duh! Then, I'm outside working on it today, and I can't see which line is broken so I take a chance and cut out the rusted one. I pulled it out the back side and inspect it for damage, which I can't find. So I figured, dang it man, I cut out the wrong dang line. So I went ahead and cut out the other line... pulled it out and its rust free and spot less....... I cut out the right line first, now I have no choice but to replace them both. So I'm under the hood and I look over and see my speedo cable is resting against the dang exhaust manifold and the inside cable is tottally exposed. That's a project for another day... can't very well worry about speeding if I can't stop anyway!
  12. Had no idea that there where 2 lines going back that way. I thought it was just the 1 line then it split at the load adjusting thing. I bought 20 feet of new brake line so now I guess I get figure out which one is broken and replace it. Wish I had one of them cameras on a snake thing that I could squeeze up behind the gas tank. I sell them at work, but there just about as expensive as the axle I just put in. Guess I gotta do it the old fashioned way! I've got 2 days off back to back and that's insanely rare for me so here's to hoping I can do this in 2 days. Think 20' should be enough? I hope so... I would hate to have to go into work on my day off to buy more parts.
  13. Things sag when they get old :) I know there is a write up on making your own adjustable link thing. I'll have to make one. I noticed too that the passenger side sits a little higher then the drivers and I looked at it and figured out why. I put the helper spring on the wrong way. The side that should be facing the rear is facing the front and the very tip of it is resting on that little bracket. I really don't want to take that all off again. I might just move the bracket :P Should be installing all new brake lines tomorrow! Can anyone tell me which outlet the rear line is on that splitter thing by the master?
  14. There she is. Thinking I just need to move the bracket around or something?
  15. I always apperciate the amount of time and effort that restoration guys (like me) put into the projects they work on!
  16. Its not up a giant amount or anything. I'll take a pic tonight. Is it possible that I had it up to high and that's what blew my brake line? Or is that just nonsense?
  17. Well, the thing is in the right spot.... the bolts holding the bracket on for the adjuster thing... man I need to take a picture. Ok, its mounted in the right spot but the lever thing is pointing slightly upwards. Maybe The axle itself is higher then it was before? I don't know... I will take a picture and post tomorrow when there is light outside. I have no idea if the thing works... I assume it does because I have never had any weird brake problems or anything. I did have the right rear wheel lock up on me but that was due to the ebrake line being seized up. I replaced both of them too and need to make a new braket or something where they hook up to the other cable. (I bought them for a Cherokee not a Comanche) I am hoping that I can push the individual lines through the openings around the gas tank and all the other areas. I found out I can get 20' of line for under 30 bucks. Its not exactly Ideal to have fittings every 5' or so, but If it means not having to make my own ends or not having to drop the tank then I'm game :) I was wondering too, should I be on a new thread... this is the same project but sort of a different topic.
  18. Well, from what I can actually see. It all looks fine. Theres no rust anywhere. I can't even see where its damaged because of the gas tank being in the way. For all I know it just broke from me working on the end where I worked. Maybe I twisted it or something? So I need 17' of line at least? I work at O'reilly Auto Parts now so I can come by individual sections of hose pretty easy. It goes from the master cylinder all the way to the fittings on the rear? I found that stupid thing for the load adjusting bed sensor or whatever the heck it is. I would like to keep it simply for original parts (I'm a restoration guy) Can anyone send me a pic of theres so I know I put it back on right? So, 17'-20' of new line that I will buy in sections and part them all together. That way its all new and easier to snake through everything.
  19. OK a new issue!!! Everything is in, got the brakes bled. all is fine...... Something that I never touched is now giving me trouble. There is a massive leak in the brake lines somewhere above the gas tank. Is there a fitting anywhere in that area or do I have a broken line or something? Any idea? I still have front brakes, but can't keep fluid in for the rear. After all that money I spent on all new everything for the rear, I can clearly see that its all dry where I worked so I know its not anything I touched. Must have broken a line I guess. Any idea what I should do?
  20. Alright, good news is... I found that little bracket thing! Hurray!!! Bad news is... I have spent hundreds of dollars buying litteraly EVERYTHING for this rear axle... mostly break parts, and out of all that I spent... I have somehow neglected to buy freakin brake fluid!!!! :wall: Man, I feel dumb! Now I gotta wait till someone comes home with a car so I can go buy fluid! AHHHH
  21. :) Good to know! Its all done now, so we got lucky I guess, because I never knew that. Its my brothers truck anyway :P He is the one in the picture and he left the tool box lid open in front of the back window, so he might have know I guess. Oh well, no harm no foul.
  22. Cutting off the old shock perch and mounts. Pretty easy for a cutting wheel on a standard grinder.
  23. Ok guys, update time! NEW AXLE IS IN!!!! Its all welded and sanded and painted and shiny and mounted in place with new U bolts, new washers new nuts new grade 8 or above everything. All new Shoes brake hardware, adjusters, wheel clinders, everything inside brake drums. All new brake lines on the outside. All new Ujoints in the drive shaft. Fresh 75w90 Lucas gear lube and new seal. Basicly.... I have a new rear end. Now here's the kicker. I have not bled the lines or anything for the brake yet which is the plan for tomorrow. I can not for the life of me find that little bracket that mounts on the Diff cover that goes to the brake thing. I guess its supposed to give you more stoping power when the bed is loaded down or something. So my new question is.... what the heck am I gonna do If I can't find that thing?!?!?!?!?!?
  24. A comanche front end! OHHHH somebody post a pic of that. It's not to late to go buy another pumpkin and carve an MJ to put next to the other one!
  25. I have the best wife in the world... she knows my obsession with all things Jeep, so she made me a present! I know, right! Happy Halloween and Jeep on!
