The MJ is going to the paint shop tomorrow!!
xjtrailrider replied to xjtrailrider's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Thank You! This is my first MJ, I resto-modded my dads old 90 XJ a few years ago after he passed away. I have built a couple of XJ trail rigs as well. Now I want as many MJ's as I have XJ's! -
So after a month of hard work, the MJ will be a lot less fugly than when I started on it! I picked this 89 4.0/AW4/NP231/SWB up for $250 from a good friend. I got it running with a new Bosch fuel pump and got it home. It was leaking oil from every gasket/seal so I just yanked the motor and went through it. With 162 on the ticker it was in great shape but gunked up badly inside and out! So I cleaned the engine, installed new gaskets/seals and cleaned painted the engine bay. It runs great! Gotta love a RENIX  So I decided to convert it over to a open system and to R134a AC, that went smooth using all 96 XJ parts from our parts Jeep. Then went in the interior! I dropped in the 96 XJ carpet, seats and center console. I bought a SMS headliner for it as well. I dropped in a XJ full cluster and used the ididit gear indactor Then I raised it up! I used OME 930 front springs with spacers, RE superflex LCA's and trackbar in the front, HellCreek AAL's and TeraFlex 1.5 shackles in the rear as well as a swapped in 29 spline 8.25 using Barnes 4WD D-60 perches. Put on 4 31x10.50 Firestone Destination AT's on soft "8's" and called it good. I had it lifted the way I wanted it and it was running great so it was time to make look "better". I took it to a local bedliner shop and they sprayed the rust free bed with some semi-gloss black and installed a black powder-coated tool box. So now its off to paint tomorrow  I will get it shot the same color as my 09 Hemi Commander, MOPAR bright silver metalic, all of the trim with be semi-gloss black. I ordered a FEY rear step bumper and a Rigidco front bumper to finish it off. I also have a set of 86 "Comanche" side badges for it and the tailgate "JEEP" in black as well. I have a full set of factory skids for it that will go on after paint. The last "Fugly" picture of the MJ, the next one will look real damn good

Like the subject line says, i need a drivers side drip rail molding badly! The MJ will be back from the paint shop in a week and this is the only trim piece I am missing. I have driven hundreds of miles and walked 30+ JY's looking for this one part! If you have one, I will pay $20 plus shipping! PM me here

Wanted; MJ headliner board and drivers side drip molding
xjtrailrider replied to xjtrailrider's topic in Wanted
Nobody has an old headliner board laying around? I suppose I can get the drip rail molding from the stealership or a JY. -
We stuck that on there to drive it home. The bumper was on our 96 XJ that is now a parts jeep. I have a set of 97+ flares that we will run on the front to match the bumper RIP Big Red She was totaled

If your near VA and the buckets are grey and in good shape, I'll trade you! I have the grey bench in not so good of condition though, the frame is fine it just needs a cover or re-apholstering

Starting the resto on our 89, right now these are the two most pressing things I need. I prefer black or painted drip molding. I don't have the headliner/board at all, I might even need the rear upper trim as well. I just need the board, i have the grey headliner material. Another issue is the rear window gasket/trim, Ours is looking rough. Does anyone have a source for that?

This is my first MJ build but I'm no stranger to XJ's. I've been around them since 84' My son recently totaled our beloved "Big Red", a 1996 red XJ "Country" edition. He has always wanted a MJ so I got a great deal on this one from FitchVa. Fitch had big plans for this Jeep but not much time with his new job so he passed it on to us. It was in good hands but our plans are different from Fitch's. Its a 89, 4.0, AW4, NP231, short bed, 162k Our plans are a resto-mod, which include; First off, pull the 4.0 and clean it and freshen up the gaskets, it leaks from every possible source! New interior(I need a headliner board?) most of it will come from the XJ Fresh fluids Open cooling system from our wrecked XJ Clean up the RENIX vacuum mess! 96 dual diaphragm booster from the wrecked XJ 3" OME/RE front lift from the wrecked XJ 3" HellCreek rear packs Chryco 29 spline 8.25 (SUA flipped perches), freshen up the CAD D-30 with new seals and u-joints 31's from the wrecked XJ Skid plates from the XJ Spray in bedliner Shiny new black/silver paint, XJ "Country" theme Here it is!

I need to get this thing running. Its a 89, 4.0, AW4 I have zero fuel pressure while the engine is cranking. when the key is released to "run" I have plenty of pressure. If I prime the TB it will start fine until it runs out of fuel then it shuts off(then it gets fuel pressure). I suspect the starter relay(having trouble finding one) but why do I only have pressure in run? I have good spark, the synch sensor is good, the CPS is good, the grounds are clean, the TB is clean, I have injector pulse on all six, I have good compression, all of the relays are tested and good, I have not checked the starter relay yet. I've owned RENIX XJ's for a while and thought I had them figured out but this one has me stumped! Come on RENIX gurus help a man out!

3" Suspension Lift Kits?
xjtrailrider replied to kawaboy13's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm kind of in the same boat as kawaboy except I'm building a MJ for my 17 year old son as a DD. I'm torn between the HellCreek 3" full leaf packs (+/- $300) or the 3" AAL's ($75) Can some one give me some "long term" feedback on the AAL's? How have they held up? I will be installing a 29 spline 8.25 from the XJ into the truck(flipped perches of course) I have the front covered with left over parts from our crashed XJ, the front will be OME/RE hybrid 3" Sorry for the hijack kawaboy but I thought the feedback may help you as well. -
May have been FitchVa's, I bought it from him. Yep, I have heard stories about the floorboards but so far all of my XJ's have had solid floors so I'm holding out hope! The XK is a great vehicle, 2 trouble free years so far.
