Axle questions
TheMaddTitan13 replied to TheMaddTitan13's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The tire rub the control arm just alittle when fully flexed and turning. The spring rub is what concerns me. -
My 89 mj (i belive) has the cad dana 30(upgraded to cromely shafts and spartan locker, deleated cad) and I have a dana 35 in the rear. 1st question, is the cad dana 30 wider than the dana 35? Ive been trying to center my front axle and it seems like my front end is about 2 in wider than the rear. ( also my coil rubs on driver side even after centering, any tips to avoid that? Its the trackbar mount that it rubs on.) 2nd question, when I lift my rear and rotate one wheel, the other wheel rotates backwards. That indicates open differential, but everytime I spin tires both rear tires spin, on asphalt and offroad, is it possible it has the limited slip in the rear? Did comanche even offer lsd? (I havent poped the rear face off yet)

That was it! I didnt notice it when I dropped it, I pulled it out of the connector up top!

I'm stuck guys. I got my clutch changed, and bolted back up. My truck turns but won't start. Ive got 3 pairs of loose end wires. & for the life of me can't figure out where they go or why it won't start. I could only get bad pics but hope they help. The connectors crumbled away so they are just lose ends. Any help would be awesome. One wire seems to be clipped to the driver side top of tranny and the other I'm assuming is the speed sensor on the passenger side?

I need clutch advice please!
TheMaddTitan13 replied to TheMaddTitan13's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I think my slave and throwout are one part. I'm definitely replacing it, that is what I belive failed on me. When messing with thr flywheel, would you resurface it or even take it off if it looks good? Can I do it at home, or is it definitely a shop thing? -
So I want yalls personal advice, my slave cylinder went out on me, ive replaced the hydraulic line and master cylinder previously. I bought a new stage 1 clutch kit(did not come with flywheel). Ive got the transmission sitting on a jack under my truck and that clutch plate looks daunting. Ive never been inside a tranny before and in my personal opinion the clutch disc looks great. Ive heard yes and no on replacing the actual clutch. It operated perfectly previously. It was alot of work to get it out & really don't want to do it again, but at the same time how much could go wrong? Do new clutches have fitting issues? Is the flywheel necessary to resurface? Should I get a new flywheel and go ahead and do the rear main seal while I have it all out? Also if I decide to go through with the whole process, the stage 1 clutch plate sticks out almost 1 inch farther(the circle of forks, not sure exactly what its called.) Is that normal? Are my previous "forks" worn? I know that was alot of questions and I ran on, but I'm a bit nervous over this whole process. I'm a learn as you go backyard mechanic so all this is new to me, but I do have a decent amount of experience. I have already put the slave in, is there a bearing behind it that I overlooked? The kit came with 2 roller bearing, one about nickel sized one about quarter sized. Thank yall so much, I can take more/better pics if needed.

Off road noise!
TheMaddTitan13 replied to TheMaddTitan13's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It definitely rubs the control arm on very tight turns. & I did something similar to the wd 40, I cleaned and respray painted most of my underside & after wheeling i noticed my passenger spring rubs the tire rod mount alittle when flexing. -

Off road noise!
TheMaddTitan13 replied to TheMaddTitan13's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Fair enough! Ive tinkered out alot of the noise, I've kinda leaned to the allways noisey side. She performs like a charm tho! -
Off road noise!
TheMaddTitan13 replied to TheMaddTitan13's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I did re do both my front hubs recently and has taken 50%of the noise out, I think I didnt torque the hub bolts in properly last time and cause premature wear(small noise). -
Off road noise!
TheMaddTitan13 replied to TheMaddTitan13's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Sorry bud! I thought this was my locker post! It's early! & no my offroad noise doesn't come from turning, mainly on very rough rocky trail, anytime I have to bump it, sounds like she is creaking and not crunching(but similar noise) I'm pretty mechanically inclined so I've checked all the main stuff and repaired tons of stuff. -
Off road noise!
TheMaddTitan13 replied to TheMaddTitan13's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yes only time I ever hear it anymore is very very tight right (max out steering), moderate and very tight lefts. (75%-100% steer) The first 2 weeks everytime you touch th3 steering wheel its going to feel like you just shot your tranny! -
So I want to see how others mjs sound offroad! I replaced most of the front end, rebuilt front axle, new brakes, new bushings/ball joints, new bushing on all shocks. I get alot of creeking, alittle knocking(not engine) and squeaks when I'm on really rocky areas. I can't seem to place the noise. Ive done some pretty heavy stuff in my truck, been through all trails in uwharrie(except frontside of daniels) & some recently went on a 800mile heavy offroad trip through west virginia. It operates beautifully, just so much racket! Any tips or advice? Are mjs just noisey offroad and I need to put better speakers in to drown it out?

This is one of the cleanest bays I've ever seen in any car, definitely the cleanest jeep!!! It looks brand new! How many miles?

Dana 30 help & spartan locker talk
TheMaddTitan13 replied to TheMaddTitan13's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You might be a life saver! I'm not looking forward to breaking it all down again, but I am happy to hear a semi permanent fix is available! I tried for hours to get a seal to fit on either side on passenger. I used a really long pipe to tap in the driver then used a seal press to finish the seat & wasn't that bad. Thankyou! & I wanted to go with a powertrac locker, but last year I was ballin' on a budget lol. & I'm either looking for a 8.8 to either put a air locker in or if I'm super lucky I can find some locking hub axles! -
Would you say the heat pad on the hood is worth it? It gets pretty warm on the trail. & I am definitely going to find a shroud. You got some good looking engines! The ones with engines, do they run?
-
Rate my engine bay! Curious to see it compared to others! (The oil on my valve cover was from before replacing vacuum lines & my battery plate rusted out 😞 )
-
I'm sorry this is probably be alittle choppy, so bear with me please. FYI This was my first time doing almost all of this! have a couple topics I would like to discuss, 1, I need help, I did the vac delete on my dana 30 front axle. I removed the shim, plugged the lines, and sealed it up. I also installed a spartan lunchbox locker and this runs my 2nd topic. (Ill continue this thought farther down the post.) But my issue is when I removed the 3 part shaft I removed the shim. I wanted to re-do the seals since I was practical rebuilding the whole front end. Well originally the seals where on the typical place on driver and passenger side the seal was over, half way down the shaft where the vac system is. I originally tried to place the seals inside the diff like I've seen many times before(Videos and pictures) but I wasted 2 seals trying, so I went to my 2nd plan. I placed the seal in the original spot by the vac system. So it was leaking from the diff gasket from the start, but after assembly I ran it for 20/30 miles, drained the diff fluid and refilled(working the locker in some) but after 3 months it started leaking pretty steadily, is there any advice or did I pick the wrong seals for the system? Did I make a bad call with the vac deleat? (I got all new vac lines for my engine bay.) 2. Spartan locker I've seen alot partial info and experiences with them, most of my previous dive into it, was most people commented directly after install and never follwed up. So I would like to get alittle more into it for some guys interested in it! My experience, Install: pretty smooth, followed all directions and tolerances. First mile, it binded and unloaded so hard, i was trying to drive 1 mile down the road to this big rock parking lot. I stopped 3 times in that mile thinking my driveshaft exploded. 2-20miles, I drove around in figure 8s in the gravel lot in 4 low and 4high. Lots of binding and popping, I thought it was going to destroy my truck. 20-100 miles, I had to replace the driver side hub bearing during break in because left turns jerked so damn bad. 100 miles, Finnaly make it out to uwharrie for 3day weekend, I wheeled and wheeled hard as I could, stayed in 4high/low the whole weekend. 120+miles, So pulling out of uwharrie I finnaly put it back in 2wd and there it was, she was quiet as can be. I get minor ratcheting in u turns, parking lots and just tighter turns in general. Only hear it when I turn left, no binding or unloading(unless you are in 4x4) 2000 miles later, This thing is an animal! Front locker+ open rear= great performance, didn't really have to change how I drive, & it was rather cheap. So if you are on the fence about it, I hope my experience helps! Please share yalls experience, so others know what they are diving into, plus I'm curious to see some follow ups from some vets who's ran them for years! Thankys everyone! I hope most of this made sense on paper lol. The super muddy picture is what triggered me putting some serious work into this truck. I got really stuck one night and started coming in my floor. So I tor out and patched thr floor and decided to go with a spartan locker and front end rebuild lol.

That would be an epic inside! I tried running my vin in the mopar page, I think they only go back a decade or two. I ran it on a site (ivin)? And got a very basic list, but id love to know if I had some unique features I haven't noticed.

I saw a fellow mj driver request his build sheet. Would it be too much trouble for mine? I'd love any bit of info i could pull
