  1. I need some help, I had to install a new set of rear springs on my MJ because one of my old ones were broke. Any way the only new ones that I could find were I guess for the Metric Ton Package. They had a total of 5 leafs, 3 thin and 2 thick. I have removed the longer of the 2 thick ones and installed doing a spring over. It is still way too high. Between the new springs and spring over, it looks like it is at about 8-9 inches of lift, way too much for 33" tires. Would it work if I removed the other thick one to go down to the 3 thin springs? I am concerned if I do this I will have axle wrap. How long til they settle? Any one got any suggestions. Thanks
  2. Forgive me if this is a stupid question, after going to the JCRoffroad website and looking at the 1 ton steering upgrade, I do not understand how it is better for a lifted MJ/XJ, other than it is stronger and larger? I have looked at the other steering upgrades, which raise your steering and I can understand that. Is it that the JCRoffroad draglink is attached more to the passenger side and the draglink is longer and reduces the angle? Again forgive me for my lack of knowledge, I am learning as I go. Has anybody bought and used this upgrade, I am curious how this would work with a MJ lifted around 6"-7"?
  3. I am the middle of lifting my MJ and do other mods, I was just curious, how much lift can the stock steering handle?
  4. 89MJay, Why did you choose the rock crawler long arm kit? Have you used it before? I am considering moving to a long arm set up, I just do not know which one I am going to go with if I do it.
  5. I agree, I would love to find that rubber mat somewhere since I have removed the carpet.
  6. OK I just have to vent. I am in the middle of installing new to me axles in my MJ. The rear axle that I am installing is a Dana 44 with rear disc. The PO installed the TSM rear disc kit with the caddy rear calipers with the emergency. Those calipers are junk. Any way I finallly got the adjustment right on the calipers and now I am fighting I think is air issues. My next plan is to remove the rear prop valve with the lines. Any one had any expirence with the caddy rear calipers? Any have any tips or secrets I need to know before I go any farther? Thanks
  7. Charles, The bumper looks great on the MJ!

    My MJ

They are actually buckets out of a TJ that was in the XJ. I am not going to install those for a while though, I still need the bench for my two daughters. I going to install the Tilt steering with the floor shifter though.

Hey I know a few guys from that club. I have known Jerry B and Brain W for a while. I agree we will definalty have to get together and ride this year. It would be really cool to ride with another MJ. I will get the pics of the bumper tonight and email them to you or better yet I work in Tri County and can bring it to work with me if you ever get down around this way. 89MJay, what are you doing to yours? What are the specs of yours? Tim

    My MJ

I did not have time to list those when I posted the pictures. I was just excited that I figured out how to post pictures. I have had this MJ since June of 05. I have wanted one for years and finally found this one. It is a 4X4 4.0 Auto SWB. When I found it, it was located north of Detroit Mi. I live in Cincinnati, Ohio. So I loaded up the wife, kids, dog and trailer and went to Detroit and bought it. Hey at the time it was the only one that I could find that had everything I wanted. Any way since I bought it, I have installed a motor out of an 2000 XJ, front trac bar and new front tires. I drove it like that for a year and I ran across and XJ that was built that I got for a good price. I ended up buying the XJ and junking it for the parts. So here is what my MJ will have when finished. Dana 30 front with an ARB with the super 30 kit with the chromally axles and 4.10 gears Dana 44 with rear disc brakes and a detroit locker Sky Jacker 6 lift in front, SOA in rear with new springs 33 X 12.50" BFG Mud Terrains Out of the XJ I have but not sure I am going to need is the slip yoke elimator with a tom woods rear drive shaft. I also have everything out of the XJ to convert my MJ to bucket seats with floor shift and Tilt steering column. I am also going to have onboard air. I am also going to built a front winch bumper and a new rear bumper. Hopefully by summer it will be finished and I can get it out and wheel it. Well thats about it, I will post more pictures as I get thru the project.

    My MJ

  19. Found some springs at a local spring shop here in Cincinnati. They were a little expensive but look like good quality. It seems that the only ones they could get are the 5 leaf spring. I assume those were for the Metric ton versions with the Dana 44.
  20. I was in the middle of disassembly to install a D44 with the spring over and one of my springs are broke, so it is time for a new set, any advice on where to buy? Thanks Tim
  21. If the crank positioning sensor or connector for the map sensor is bad, how does that effect spark from the coil? Does it kill the 12V to the coil? Thanks Warf90
  22. Please help me diagnose a no start. My MJ is a 1990 with the 4.0. I have checked for spark at the ignition coil and do not have any. Where do I go from here? I do not have a chilton manual or anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Warf90
  23. Ok, here goes and tell me if I am on the right path with my plans. Back in June I bought a 1990 MJ. Since then I have been trying to straighten out what the PO did do or didn't do right. I want to get everything mechanical sound before lifting it. In the mean time I have starting buying parts for my lift and axle upgrades. I just bought a set of axles from a grand wagoneer, dana 44 front and a model 20 rear. I am planning on using the front axle but not the rear. I am going to use a izuzu rear dana 44 axle. I found a rear axle at a junk yard with disc brakes and the gears I what already. Plus it will be 6 lug to match the front. I am going to try and sell the rear axle to recoup some money back. What is it worth, it has one piece axles in it. My goal is to run 33 or 35 inch tires and it will be a daily driver/ trail rig. Is there any one who sells the bracket kit for the front axle any cheaper than the $300.00 that I have seen? For a lift I was thinking 6". How much trimming will it take to get the 35" with that lift? Sorry for the long post but wanted some input from others and this. This is my 2nd jeep, I also have a CJ that I built a few years ago. Thanks Tim
  24. I just install a used motor out of a 99 XJ into my 1990 MJ. The 99 motor did not have the hole drilled in the head for the guage sensor. Would it be alright to install it in the thermostat housing? Thanks Tim
