  1. Currently my only goal is to get it running, driving and weld in new floors. I kinda like the mini truck vibe, probably just going to leave it as configured. Would be nice to have a small truck for running out for tools/parts locally or hauling kayaks to the river, that kinda stuff.
  2. Good to know. I have a machine shop about a mile down the road that does resurfacing so I hope there's enough meat left on it to take it down. If it's a simple "swap this for that" I may do it, assuming I can find the parts. Seems to be the way it is. either you can't get it anymore or someone makes repops of it.
  3. I think I'm basically going to be replacing anything rubber or friction related. I'll need to dig up some research on an external slave conversion. for the purposes of getting this thing moving asap I may just replace it with stock for now. I have no real plans to ever do anything extreme with it, or dailying it.
  4. Hey all, My name's Ken, I'm new here and relatively new to MJ's and Jeeps. I have a mechanical background, I attended Vocational high school for auto repair, and went to technical college for the same. Worked in a Subaru dealership for a few years, then spent some time in Army doing Army stuff in the Engineer Corps. After that I got into electronics manufacturing and now am a Technical Specialist for a large abrasives company. A couple weeks ago a friend of mine on this forum asked me "hey do you want a Comanche?". well, duh. Growing up as a kid aged 7 or 8 my neighbors had a whole fleet of XJs, on MJ and a Grand Wagoneer and I remember just being totally enamored with the XJs and MJ. So fast forward almost 30 years now I finally have one. It's not the 4x4 5 speed 4.0 that I dreamt of, but I have my foot in the door now. I've been racing in the 24 Hours of Lemons for about 6 years now and the myth of the 500 dollar car is one that I am all too familiar with, but this time it was true. From what I understand this truck was parked in 2006, thought to have a bad engine, and having been smacked in the pass front. There it sat for almost 20 years before another member of this forum found it, and put someone onto it to save it from rotting back into the earth. So I currently know that it did run as I just saw a video of it. The water pump was removed when I got it as were a lot of the vacuum hoses and things. The floors left the chat a long time ago but the drivers side is a lot worse than the pass side. The rockers, front control arm pockets, and rear leaf mounts are solid though. Missing the whole nose of the thing, header panel, grille, headlight buckets, headlights, etc. Needs a fuel pump/sender/fuel tank. Drivers side rear leaf shackle is connected to the frame via bluetooth now. And a whole bunch of small bits and bobs that need replacing. So this is the dumping grounds for all that which will hopefully soon get worked on. I don't have a bunch of photos of it for now just the ones from when I towed it home but it'll give you an idea of what I'm working with. The VIN was already posted in the registry and that's how I know a bunch of the unobtanium parts it was optioned with were scav'd from it, but hey at least it wasn't turned into a tuna can, right?
  5. Oh neat! yeah there are some really concerning noises coming from the bellhousing area. I turned the engine over by hand a few times and one spot has a strange noise that sounds vaguely spring loaded. I think the slave cylinder probably gave up and is rusted to the pressure plate, or something like that. Either way the transmission is coming out of it. I got a new water pump to put in it too, it's just too dang cold out to mess around with it right now. I'm not looking forward to chasing down all of the various vacuum lines/leaks once it does run again haha.
  6. Glad to be here. Forums aren't dead yet!
  7. Hey all, I'm the new owner of this gem. I'll make my own thread later but to reiterate what was said, plan is to get it running and driving and put floors in it. I've always wanted a Comanche but they wound up way out of my price range for a decent shape 4.0 4x4 5 speed, so i jumped at this one when it came up. being 2wd 4 cylinder short bed and 5 speed I think this will just be for hauling crap around and making trips to the hardware store. Though, I am also kind of an idiot and I may do something really stupid with it out of boredom, we'll expound on that in my own thread!
