Advice on 2006 jeep tj
MariaManche replied to MariaManche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I did not. Because It is a tapered flywheel and from what I have read resurfacing it will remove that taper. I inspected it, and removed any contamination. It has 150k on it. Would you suggest digging back in there and replacing the flywheel? -
I have been having trouble with my 2006 jeep TJ for the past year. Hopefully some CC members can help me out. SYMPTOMS When driving, no matter what gear, I feel a slip. It seems to be more prone to slipping after driving 10 to 15 minutes. I watched this morning as it was slipping and I don't see a noticeable change in my engine rpm. WHAT I HAVE DONE Replaced clutch. Replaced Rear Main Crankshaft Seal. (thinking oil was getting on the clutch) To me, this has to be my clutch slipping.... The rear main seal job went smoothly and it is no longer leaking. Any Advice?

Dumb question, is this console a factory/dealership option? Is this the item on my build sheet? Seems to fit too perfectly. -
I am planning to attend the 2024 GSMJI in Tennessee next August and was wondering if any Comanche Club members are also planning to attend. It would be pretty cool to have a handful of Comanches in the show & shine.

Finally got the Powerstop brake kit installed on driver and passenger side. Still need to replace the drum brakes and then bleed the system. I found a good write up from a CC member on bleeding the Comanche brake system. starting removing oxidation on my American Racing wheels. Using 320 grit, 1000 grit, and clear coat. Center caps were pretty trashy looking so they are getting some rust-oleum bedliner. I have a new Rancho steering stabilizer I need to throw on but I’m not sure whether to leave the “extra” old stabilizer on the steering. I guess it wouldn’t hurt but from what I’ve read, you don’t need dual stabilizer unless you have worn components. -

Not sure if this applies exactly to our Comanche 4.0s, but the use of this paper guiding tab for inserting the rear main seal is extremely helpful. I ruined 2 seals trying to guide them in the bearing block without it. Now that the TJ is back on the road, I plan to go after all the brakes on the Comanche. After driving it over 150 miles the last two days, brakes are top on my list. It doesn't seem like I have much stopping power (could be the 35s). When braking the Comanche pulls extremely hard to the left ( could stuck caliper). -

Threw the seat back in and went for a drive to get gas. She’s running great but definitely needs a lot more garage time. -

What I found after pulling the carpet was an insane amount of mouse droppings in the driver cab corner. The mouse actually made a nest in the corner where its hard to get to. last night, I finally got all of the nest out and even the old mummified mouse. I sprayed the driver side with a Lysol hydrogen peroxide cleaner and it seemed to work really well. I might have to order the ozone machine if it does not go away. -

Thanks for the advice! I think I am going to give them a try and if I don't like them, sell them. -

Comanche update. Floor pans are patched carpet is shampooed catalytic converter is installed new shocks all the way around the truck engine oil is changed. Now just trying to get rid the disgusting smell in the cab of the truck where there was once a mouse brothel. Should have more exciting technical updates on this project soon. Right now its just a lot of cab cleaning and busy work from the previous mice residents. -

Forgot to post a photo of the rear bumper bump stops. The more I look at them, the more I like them. I think they are going to stay. -

Yes, its larger all the way to the header. I ordered a universal CAT off amazon that I am going to weld into place. At the moment, I need it to pass inspection and not wake the whole neighborhood up. Eventually, I think I need to downsize the exhaust.... -

Cut the passenger side rust spots out and made some cardboard templates for the sheet metal. The spot farthest to the right in the picture is a tricky one, it butts up the where to uniframe meets the floor pan. -

Carpet is out. Passenger side is a lot worse than expected. Needs small patches in two places where its rusted through. For the patches I plan on using some scrap material that is used to make engine bearings. It has aluminum bonded to the top and should be better than bedliner for protection. Also, Grabbed a photo of the CAT missing in the exhaust. This is aftermarket exhaust and to me it seems way to large of piping for the I6 4.0. Anyone have thoughts if this exhaust would create enough backpressure? -

Any advice on finding the leak? Are there certain spots on MJs that are prone to leaking? I guess I could pull it out and soak it with the water hose until and see if I can locate it. Pete, after finding the leak. How would you attack this surface rust and protect it? Before I bought the jeep I crawled underneath and gave it the ole rust test with a screwdriver poke. -

Spent my hour window of jeep work last night on removing the interior trim pieces and peeking under the driver side carpet. A little more surface rust than I was expecting but nothing that stresses me out too much. The plan is to clean this carpet using the "car wash" method I have seen other comanche club members use, lay down some sound/heat deadening pads (should be here this week), and slap the clean carpet back in. How would you guys/gals attack this surface rust? Wire wheel abrasive with some rust treatment before the sound/heat deadening pads? Also, when installing all the interior trim pieces I plan on doing a write up on how it all goes together and what tools are needed. It is easy to get in a hurry and start breaking plastic when handling the trim pieces. -

Thank you sir! While in college, I rushed into a Comanche build and ended up buying two really worn out Comanches with the plans to build one good one. After college I moved away and sold those Comanches and they are now stored at a private junkyard in my hometown. I am planning to visit the guy I sold them to and buy some parts off of them. Especially the Dana 44 eliminator rear end. I will post pictures of them in the following weeks and get the information for the Comanches registry. -

I am not sure... There sure be a code on the side with a date correct? I have always heard if a tire is around 7-10 years old they need replaced. I will look this evening and get back to you on that. -

The Comanche is in the garage and awaiting parts that should arrive tomorrow. Big items are an upgraded front brake kit.... (I wish I would have spent more time on the forum before ordering, looks like there are neat jeep swap upgrade options) Rear Brake kit. Steering Stabilizer. Also, new shocks from Rustys Off-Road. I Pulled the rear shocks and they are completely trash like I suspected. While waiting on parts, I have pulled the bench seat with plans to pull the carpet to inspect the floor pans, shampoo the carpet, and lay down some sound/heat deadening pads. I am also concerned with the condition of these tires. They look like they have barley been on the road but there is some cracking in the treading from rubber fatigue. Does anyone have opinions on whether or not these are safe, and will pass inspection? I will update with more pictures as I go. -

Looks like a fun build! So your plan is to install a 4.0 i6 from a newer cherokee xj?
