  1. Year, Make, Model. 1986 Jeep Comanche XLS Image, if available (Attached) Engine / Trans / Transfercase / Front axle / Rear axle / Wheelbase 2.8L V6, Vin decoder says 4 speed but I don't think that's what was offered on these at the time, everyone else has told me that it should be a 3 speed. 4x2 Build date: (its on the driverside door sticker, in the form of month and year) The sticker was completely destroyed, but I am curious if there's a way to find this out other than the sticker. Maybe looking into getting one replicated if that's possible. Current Location: Region will do, state, and area of state. Herndon, VA Status: Is it still on the road, is it in the junkyard? Project awaiting work? Still on the road kicking, in the process of being restored slowly but surely. Notes: XLS with the original sports bar and all chrome accents still (mostly) intact. Power windows and power locks and original black cat fog lights. Current owner: Myself, Michael Dzien
  2. This truck has been in my family since it rolled off the line in '86. My late Uncle purchased this truck with my dad buying a lesser trim line at the same time. My Dad's truck has since been long gone, but my uncle maintained and kept this truck pretty nice through the years, using it for "normal truck things" including loaning it to friends who didn't treat the rear bumper so nice. My Uncle passed a number of years ago suddenly from a heart attack and my dad used this truck for a year or so. It could handle towing a decently sized boat, from my young perspective haha. Afterwards, my Grandfather took the truck back to his place where it was parked out front of his house in the Florida sun for years and years, only being driven very seldom, as he is elderly and doesn't move around well anymore. He had always talked about selling it to someone for little of nothing to get rid of it, which I finally had the means to say, "I'll pay whatever you want so we can keep it in the family and I can restore it." After some thought, he and my grandma decided to give it to me! I immediately scheduled some vacation from work to drive down from VA, where I live now, to Florida in order to pick it up and drive it back home. I didn't want to stress the back end because it hadn't been seriously driven in a long time so I got a Uhaul that took all four wheels off the ground instead of the front end trailer. After unloading it and working on it this past 7-8 months, I found that the mechanic who my grandfather trusted and kept it maintained had actually been sabotaging the MJ, as he always asked my grandfather that he'd take it off his hands for a few hundred dollars. I found quite a few problems with his "repairs". He had also recommended to my grandfather to put in an alarm system which he drilled a hole, without grommet, through the firewall and created a rats nest of wires which was causing many electrical problems with how Gerry-rigged the hole system was. What do you guy think? And no real rust to speak of, just small surface stuff. So far I've: Flushed the coolant system Replaced a broken overflow coolant reservoir Taken out the keyless/alarm system Fixed turn signals/headlight/hazards electrical issues Replaced tail light lenses Replaced rear Diff fluid Oil change Fixed a rust spot in engine Bay from broken coolant res leak issue Replaced exhaust/CC delete Replaced instrument cluster and shifter lights Fixed WW motor parking issue and replaced intermittent module Upgraded the headlights changed sockets on front turn signals/indicators scrubbed and treated the rear bumper for some rust spots. What's left (For now): Trans filter replacement and fluid replacement Paint correction/repaint re-pinstripe (peeling but still on) Fix/polish wheels Adjust RPM on stock cluster Rear leaf spring replacement front shock replacement Replace turn signal and wiper lever Pie in the sky wants: Possible engine swap and upgrade, including trans. (need to figure out what all I need for this, like model year and type of engine and trans.) complete color scheme change (To make the truck really mine) but I'm not sold on wanting to do this. Upgrade to complete digital layout possibly for all instrument cluster Lift after engine upgrade?
  3. True. Thanks a million. I’ll see what I can do with that info. Surprised how different they are from the ones I got from a different 2.8L V6 schematic. But hey… that’s why I’m stupid haha
  4. Nice thanks. Now I need to decipher them into autozone or other supplier to get all new, unless you happen to have links or updated PN. Or will this come up if I search them on their site
  5. So only 3662 was the right one of the three I found?
  6. I think the OEM part numbers are: S9433653 53000830 S9433662 are those correct? They don’t come up in any searches I’ve found
  7. I found an engine schematic online but the belts are all marked as “discontinued” .. I went on autozones site and found the right belts.. I think. But does anyone have updated belt links I can get for my 2.8L v6? I think the following is what I need? duralast 15515 which is my alternator to the air pump duralast 15480 which is for my powersteering duralast 15560 which would be for the a/c and alternator I'm kinda stupid so I’m looking for the compressor belt which I’m assuming is the 15560? Sorry to probably be the most stupid person here lol.
  8. Also in search of the bracket piece that goes into the rubber just over the front axle and connects to the cc square connector to help with vibration. Mines broke to heck and someone tried welding it and it failed.
  9. Walker Exhaust 40212 Exhaust Y Pipe https://a.co/d/03uN0uY Looks very close. But scamazon says it won’t fit.
  10. I’ve been trying to piecemeal together an exhaust system to replace a rusted out pipe and bracket system on my 86. I’ve gotten everything except the Y pipe, everything I’ve seen in the documentation show a single pipe coming off the manifold, but there is a y pipe to replace that the bracket is rusted where it connects to the catalytic converter. Does anybody have a line on where I can find it or source one, I’m not sure the part number. I’m going to try to save the y pipe by grinding the rusted bolts out of the square adapter, but I have everything else I need. yes I get it, my amazing of technical speak may blow people away, but I’m just looking for guidance. Thanks in advanced. I’ve scrubbed the old threads similar to this question, but all the links are dead now.
  11. Would you recommend I change the sockets on the rear side as well?
  12. To clarify, it is the lights (whatever you call them) that are turned on with the light control switch pulled out to the first notch. They are now functioning, and the left turn signal is also functioning. When I turn my right turn signal on, the left blink dimmly as well. I haven't narrowed down the issue on that yet, so I search continues.
  13. Looks to me like he had to remove it and cut it out to move. I guess that's what I have to do then. Dang.
  14. I got a single DIN radio that has a full touch screen. I thought it would be just enough clearance under the overhang of the dash to work just fine. It apparently wasn't lol. But, I'd like to remove the center vent from the dash to move the A/C controls down a bit and the radio down just slightly to offer more clearance. When I took the dash apart, the vent seems to be plastic welded (tech term haha) to the piece it is connected to. Do I have to cut it out in order to remove it? I was planning on using some ducting tape, or something similar, to connect the small tubing from it to the drivers side vent under the steering wheel. My searches have left me with not much to go on and I'm not sure what to look for in the forums that may offer some additional guidance. I'll continue my search while also posing this question. Thanks for the help in advance! Side note, I'd like to remove it with as little damage as possible in case I want to put it back in potentially. I can handle the hardware in order to make it a mountable thing with nuts and bolts for sure.
  15. Also, I took that aftermarket BS remote system out and probably salvaged almost $100 in parts! Win-win
  16. I am happy to announce that with the help of my new best friend Steve, the running lights are now functioning, and I believe the turn signal problem is resolved as well. I just need to charge my battery up a bit to give it a full test today. She lives again!
  17. Thanks. Yeah trying to figure out how I should remove this stupid remote thing because I think it’s install borked my system
  18. Yes. I just didn’t know if those also came with a remote haha
  19. I have power windows and power locks on my 86, those came installed by the factory
  20. Did MJs come with keyless entry? Because I think I figured out that the module looks aftermarket and I think may be my issue
  21. ‘86 Comanche XLS. Been in my family since it rolled off the assembly line back in 86, I just towed it up from Florida now based in Virginia. A lot of electrical issues with bulbs in such but that will be resolved here soon. It’s been repainted by a hack job artist in Florida and aftermarket radio an alarm put in which also may have screwed things up. But I’m working on restoring it and have replaced a few things, but it’s a really fun drive that I want to keep mostly stock aside from a few modern touches. 137,000 miles on it so it’s basically new.
  22. I checked the switch and it doesn’t seem to have any visible defects or any issues causing connection problems. It looks almost brand new.
  23. Yeah I have everythin torn apart to give it a look. I just need to figure out how to disassemble and pull it
  24. So the instrument cluster and shifter lightbulbs go on because of what I suspect is a backfeed into the system. Currently I have dual filament lightbulbs in the front driver side and passenger side turn signals, as well as the two lights in the back of each tail light the reverse lighting is the only single filament lightbulb. I have back there. I’ve tried looking for wiring diagrams for the turn signals headlights inside markers, but I can’t find anything that’s easily readable. I was told that the side markers also should blink when the turn signals are engaged, which is why I’ve been looking at that, but in terms of running lights , I don’t have any functionality on any of my exterior lights when I have the switch pulled out to the first position. The headlights obviously will work when I pull them completely out.
