fuel pump issues... I think...

No, I hadn't thought of that. I'll pull the sensor from my donor truck and see if that helps. -

I just changed the fuel filter last week but it didn't do any good. Also I put some fuel injector cleaner in the tank at the same time. -
fuel pump issues... I think...

Well, I don't think that was the problem. I was still acting up all the way home and then back into work tonight. Anybody have any other ideas? I would really appreciate the help, it makes me nervous driving it around like this. -

I found that ballast resistor. There were no cracks but I unplugged the wires and rubbed the corrosion off anyway. ( It's worth a shot :dunno: ) I'll see if it did me any good in about an hour when I get off work. -
I have suspected my fuel pump to be going bad for a while now, and a couple weeks ago, I was on my way to work when my truck started sputtering as if it were running out of gas. I was able to sputter up to the closest auto parts store and put a new fuel pump in there in the parking lot. After I got the new one in, it started right up and ran great for about a week. Then it started sputtering again just like it did with the old one. When I got under there and looked around, I noticed that I had failed to secure the electrical wires going to the pump and they had been dangling on the driveshaft. This rubbed the rubber off of one wire just enough to bare the copper wires inside. The other wire however, was rubbed so badly that it was only still connected by 3 of the little copper strands. So I fixed the wires and I still had the same problem. I then tried putting some Lucas fuel injector cleaner on the tank and changing the fuel filer, but it still hasn't solved anything. Also the gas tank was replaced about 6 months ago. I am at a loss as to what the problem could be. Could I have damaged the new fuel pump by running it with the wires worn so thin? The truck acts like it is not getting any fuel when I accelerate and it back fires, but it idles just fine.

Man you guys are good! It was definatly the choke. I pulled the air filter off and wiggled the choke a little and all of a sudden the rpms dropped right back down to where they should be. I'm gonna pick up some carb cleaner on the way home from work in the morning and give it a couple shots of that and maybe a little WD-40 to keep it from sticking again. Thanks for the help, I just kinda learn as I go with this truck. If it was my daily driver I probobally would have gotten fed up a long time ago, but sence its just a project it works out ok. A project car that always runs perfectly isnt much of a project.

Hey all, I'm kinda new here. My comanche never gives my any trouble so I don't really have anything to post about usually. I am finally giving up trying to find a chevy forum that is as helpful as this one. So if yall don't mind, Ive got a chevy question for ya. My truck is a 1977 K10 (4wd) with a 350 engine. its just a toy but seems like every day theres a new problem. So the current problem is this: Its been sitting for a couple weeks due to a problem starting it. Finally got that fixed. turns out it was a wire that had pulled out of one of the plugs that plugs into the distributer cap. :wall: so simple. I know. anyway now that I got it started, it revs extremely high. (theres is no tach I'm just going by sound). I can put it in gear and if I let it, it would probobly idle down the road at about 20mph. Now i kinda think it has something to do with the transmission because it has done this before and I checked the transmission fluid and it was really low (it has a leak) so I topped it off and the engine suddenly dropped back down to normal about 2 or 3 minutes later. That didn't work this time. Now about 3 weeks ago, right before it stopped starting. i dropped the transfer case and tried to replace the rear transmission seal. I say tried because I put everything back together and it still leaks. :dunno: So I figure ill take it up to the shop for that, I'm not too good with transmissions. Would transmission problems cause the engine to rev really high like that or is it just coinsidence that it stopped that one time and it is something else completly unrelated? I'm pretty sure I have the carb adjusted correctly and I don't think i have any vacume leaks. Thanks for the help. I swear, if this thing wernt just a toy, I'd just hual it up to the junk yard. Ive had problems with it ever seince i got it. But on the plus side, theres a mechanic down the road that I take it to when it gets to dificult for me to fix on my own, and i think I am putting his son through college. Ha.

ok, as promised the carnage that was my daily driver last winter. (Snow got confused and fell on texas even though we don't know how to drive on it) My stering wheel after my face hit it, plus blood stains on the seat the front end minus the bumper and radiator I should ad by the way that the bumper and radiator didnt fall off, i took them off after I got home so i could see what was left. I was dragging the bumper though left fender its hard to see in the pic, but the floor pan crumpled in so far on the side wall by the gas pedal that i can't put my foot on the gas without also touching the brake

well my camera is on the fritz right now, I'll get ya'll some pics as soon as I remember to borrow one from a friend. theres not much to see though, I have most of the front end all taken apart. I'll be sure to get ya'll a pic of my stering wheel though. Its hard to believe that i wasnt wearing my seatbelt and I walked away from it with only a bloody nose and two black eyes. :wall:

Hey I'm new here. This is my '88 comanche in the first pic before i took her into a wall at 55mph. :fs1: (now she's just a parts truck) and the second pic is my new to me '89 manche. I'm hopeing to kinda fix her up and use her as a daily driver at the same time. Shes one hell of a craigslist find. only 100K on the odometer (hawiian plates) quite a bit of rust though. I'm not too worried about it, my wrecked '88 is completly rust free and parked out of the way in my yard just waiting to be sacraficed one piece at a time. :D
