  1. Really? That’s good input!! It would be cool if we could compile a database of sale prices on Comanches based on region. Sort of like the charts that BaT has for different vehicles. Hmmm 🤔
  2. Sorry for the barrage of posts in a row... In the absence of a way to check compression, what would you guys consider “too much” blow-by? Oil cap removed, there is visible smoke that is pumping out at a decently high rate. How’s that for subjective? Either way, it’s more than I’ve ever seen on a good-running 4.0.
  3. $2.5k was my thought. That seems to be a typical asking price for crappy MJs around here. And this one with some engine attention could be better than decent. I’m also tainted by the good price I recently got on my mint-ish ‘88!
  4. That’s a good idea, thanks! He also hasn’t advertised it in any of the normal places, so probably isn’t getting much interest. Of course he “knows the market and what these things are worth”
  5. I should have mentioned, I test drove it with no air filter. The CCV tube was in bad shape and the idle was rough...it improved when the CCV tube was connected properly....why would that be??? Expansion tank bubbled when running only; coolant was VERY slightly brown...or just old. I checked all the normal rust spots and didn’t see any concerns. I’d much rather have floorboard rust coming from the inside than outside.
  6. Thanks! I didn’t put them on, but I thought so too. The grey and silver match the Pioneer stripes. Still have the originals in excellent shape too
  7. Price is $4500. Figure I could have gotten it for $3750ish if engine was in good shape. Sure beats the rust buckets I’ve seen lately for $3k-4. It needs a rear bumper and grille. I’d likely wrap it. I pulled the rubber mat/insulation. There is a little rust on the floors; driver side feels solid but the passenger is soft in some spots with a few small holes at the seat mount. Appears to be coming from inside (cowl vent or blower seal based on small puddle after rain). It’s a FL truck. I definitely thought that about the visor...kind of taking a chance on that but I don’t see any other rust or body work. It’s a D35, but I have a built 9” I’ll probably put under it.
  8. Don’t worry, this isn’t a “what’s this MJ worth” post....mostly. I found a second MJ that would work well for my plans to take it camping/overlanding. 87, 4.0, auto, 4wd, long bed. It’s clean, interior is nice-ish, little rust, no clear coat, straight body (except for the rear quarter). It’s one of the nicer ones in the area and a decent price if it was running well...it’s not. Pretty good amount of blow-by, coolant overflow bottle bubbling (head gasket?), air filter 100% SOAKED in oil, engine dies with any load on it. So... 1) How much $ would you take off if the engine needs to be rebuilt/replaced (I can do either)? 2) It’s at a dealer (mostly nice classic European cars), any negations techniques to convince him it’s worth less? He gave the typical “needs a tune up” BS and can maybe sell it to another sucker who won’t recognize the engine issues.
  9. Thanks everyone!! It does look very similar to the other member’s truck from several years ago! It appears this one spent most of its life in Alabama. Doing everything I can to keep it in good shape and original-ish..need to start with relocating the 4.0 badge 😁
  10. Thanks a lot! Just moved up here from Atlanta and Seattle before that. It’s good to be back around mountains
  11. Awesome!! Thanks a ton
  12. Hey everyone...I’ve been interested in Comanches for years, ever since my first Jeep, a 91 XJ. After a hiatus, I got back into Jeeps a few years ago with a mint 93 YJ Sahara. I pulled it around the country behind an RV and then this year took the plunge and built it up with 1-ton axles, 38’s, blah blah. As much fun as it is, I vowed never to modify such a nice Jeep again. Well, then came the idea to do an “overland” build with a Comanche for my business, given the popularity of mid-size trucks lately. So I lucked out and found a very nice 88 Pioneer locally and bought it for a pretty darn good deal. It has been repainted (excellent paint job) and the interior has been restored and upgraded with XJ stuff. It’s a 4.0, BA10/5, 2wd, not molested at all. Of course, given my previous vow, I can’t change or modify this thing. It’s a blast to drive and it actually feels great to have a stock Jeep again. Once we get a lift in the shop, I plan on going through it underneath and refreshing everything: fluids, bushings, brakes, etc. I’d also like to replace the chrome bumpers with black, so I’m searching for an OEM rear. Glad to see a Jeep forum that’s still alive!
  13. Well...now all of you are permanently on my Google Maps app! I want to be friends, but not every time I need directions Any clue how to remove this layer? Also, I haven’t been able to find a way to add a location via the app...and that’s all I’ve been able to access on the phone. Is this a desktop-only situation?
  14. 1998 Pioneer 4.0, BA10/5, 2wd, 3.07, SWB Build date: ? Current Location: Asheville, NC Status: On the road, excellent condition Notes: Dark blue repaint with blue/grey interior, XJ buckets and center console Current owner: Me, just purchased
  15. Yeaaaaahhh, imagine driving a couple hrs to see (and smell) it in person
  16. Yeah...in this case it might have taken a week or two.... Might have been worth it for a lower price if you didn’t mind dealing with the rust. I guess there aren’t that many HO’s out there...
  17. Here’s the picture I was sent. There’s some Inception going on here...a picture of a computer screen showing a digital picture of a film photo....from its glory days.
  18. For those wondering, it did start and run (4.0, auto, 4x4), but I couldn’t drive it (flat tires). Both floorboards were rusted through. The interior was salvageable and was less mildew-smelling than I expected. Paint actually was in good shape on the vertical surfaces, with the exception of a couple deep, rusty scratches. It appeared to have factory buckets and center console (didn’t have the XJ e-brake slot). Not worth $3800 in my book.
  19. And here are the real special parts...
  20. Well, here’s my first post on the forum...I went and checked this truck out. The owner is in NJ and the truck is in his rental house on Lake Norman, NC. He told me it was in great shape except for some rust on the bed and a bent rear bumper. Also he made sure to mention the modified tailgate, which “makes it look much more modern.” I’ll let the pictures do the talking, but let’s just say I’m glad my daughter and I didn’t get attacked by raccoons while inspecting it...
