Could anyone tell me if the E-Brake being on the floor is just an adjustment issue or something a little more serious like a broken cable? I have not dug into this issue just yet but wanted to see if anyone else has ran across this one. E-Brake pedal is to the floor since the day i picked up my 88. Luckilly she is an auto and sitting in a flat garage. It is as if it has no strength whatsoever since i was able to drive it this way.

Charcoal/Vapor Canister Relocation?
JeepFanatik replied to JeepFanatik's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Did it come with a mounting bracket/strap or did you have to fab something up to mount it? -
Has anyone relocated their charcoal canister and have pics? Did you replace with a different canister? If so what did you use? I'm planning to relocate and get it out of the engine bay but not set on what canister i want to go with as a replacement.......i think i saw a post about an 01XJ but not sure if i'll need to fab up a mounting bracket. 88 4.0 Renix here

Does anyone know what this would have connected to? I'm going to cut it and tuck the wires in the harness since it doesn't appear to be causing me any issues. Maybe it is a 97+ harness that someone put in and this connected to the computer that normally resides here on an HO?? Any input appreciated 88 4.0 Renix

88 Pioneer (Project Jeepy)

Little bit of engine bay work. Deleted the fuel pump balast resistor. Started deleting the EGR. Also reworking the vacuum lines and going to relocate the charcoal canister to underneath the cab near the fuel tank. I'm also starting to remove the old closed loop cooling items to go ahead and convert to open cooling. -

Trimmed the front flares even with the fenders. And also installed some new headlight conversions. I don't like the LED housings so i picked up these glass standard housings that have a removeable bulb. And they are crystal clear so more of an OEM look but much better light output. -
Ah shoot i totally forgot. I'll check next time i'm at the yard. Thank you!

Anybody have the little round rubber "bumper" piece that goes in the fuel filler door? Mine is missing and it makes the door close farther than it should so it isn't flush with the bed.

New brakes on the front and detail cleaned the tires/wheels that came on the truck when i bought it. Also scored some pre-97 fender flares for the front and a 96XJ dash trim which i think looks a bit better than the older trim piece. Going to scuff it and spray with some SEM Trim Black soon. -

Cluster swap from a 90 XJ Limited. Got the newer oil pressure sending unit installed already, just waiting on the water temp sending unit. Had also discovered the fuse for the gauge cluster was bad. I then pulled the cluster back out to swap in the black bezel that was on my old "idiot light" cluster. Looks much better now. -

Been quite busy over the past couple of weeks. Pulled front and rear light harnesses and fixed a lot of messed up wiring/splicing. All front/rear lights now work with the exception of reverse lights but pretty certain i need a reverse light switch. I also grabbed some headlight bucket springs since whomever did the 97+ conversion forgot about them. -
Cluster Swap now no start
JeepFanatik replied to JeepFanatik's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
So i actually threw a voltmeter on the wire from the starter relay to the starter. Found i am getting battery voltage when the key is turned to start. So it appears it was just bad timing that the starter is bad. -
Cluster Swap now no start

That is a possibility. I have the lower dash removed and will be going through those connectors today. I was trying to use a test light to see where i had power before and after turning the key over but i may not be checking it accurately................anyone know the proper procedure to test/verify the ignition switch is doing its job? I also plan to replace the nasty ground from the battery to the block. -
Cluster Swap now no start

I did not lower the column. I did snip the wire that runs the gear indicator on the old "idiot light cluster" since i didn't need it anyway......but that was it. -
Hi everyone! I just swapped in a 90 XJ Limited Cluster this morning into my 88 Pioneer and now for some odd reason i have a no crank issue. Thought it may have been the battery because the one in the jeep when i bought it was old..........so i just put a new one in but still same issue. I tried jiggling the shifter (Column Shift) and also tried both park and neutral to see if it was a nss issue but still nothing. I'm also not seeing any voltage readout on the new cluster when it is in the on position. When i turn the key to the on position i can hear the fuel pump kick on and when i turn the key to start i can hear the pump sound like it is trying to run also. Any ideas? I'm pretty sure both electrical plugs are secure and not flipped but i'm about to check if these have an index so they can't be plugged in upside down. And i would be stumped to learn that the cluster connectors would stop the ignition from working.

Taillight Harness (Repair)
JeepFanatik replied to JeepFanatik's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks guys, i actually pulled the harness off and went through the wiring one at a time and figured it out. All soldered connections now and everything works like it should except for Stop and Reverse...........but pretty sure new switches for each of those are in order. -
Hi everyone. Hopefully i haven't overlooked searching this topic. I'm going through the front and rear lighting harnesses and have made my way to the rear. I'm curious if anyone has any detailed wiring diagrams or pictures of what wires go where? I have removed the harness and in the process of cleaning it for better troubleshooting. I have a couple wires coming off of several of the bulb sockets that i need to confirm and or rewire properly. As of right now i have parking lights up top and blinkers in the middle of each taillight. I'm thinking i should have parking lights and signal/brake coming from both upper bulbs on each light. Any help is appreciated!!

Introducing Project Jeepy! This is a restoration project that i plan for my son to help me with as he grows up and it will become his first vehicle. He will be 4 in september of this year. My second MJ i have owned. Plans are after restoration to add lift and 33's with front/rear bumpers and ls swap then just have fun with it. A previous owner performed the 97+ XJ exterior swap. She needs new rockers asap. Currently sitting on 30x9.50.15 mud terrains and 15x8 Cragar's.
