  1. I have/had the same problem. I had a 95% clogged vac. line. cleared that out and things got much better! lol Last night i disconnected the TPS altogether and couldnt tell any change. :hmm: My engine still idles really low when stopped at a light or something, and if i were to cut the wheel real sharp it will bog it on down. But it will idle up just fine when i put it in park or neutral. So, if you havent already, check your vac. lines. Maybe that will help a little.
  2. ok, I havent really had time to address this situation yet. AND i don't have access to the proper gauges or a multimeter at this time. (guess i may just have to bite the bullet and buy one) I did however, get to take it out for about 50 miles round trip, and it seemed to do ok (except for when i would have to stop, then the oil pressure light would come on). The truck wouldnt shut off if i threw it up in neutral OR when i just GRADUALLY came to a super slow stop. it would kinda stumble a little and idle rough. Can i adjust my 2.5 TPS in the same manner as the 4.0s (i know there is a thread for this, but from what i can tell its for the I6)? My throttle is actually resting on my ISA, from what i have read, this is NOT correct. and it seems that if the throttle was moved just enough to get it off of the ISA that it would solve the low idle problem (right?) but the "adjustment screw" is dang near impossible to get at to adjust (esp. when motor is hot.) My dad said that it seemed like it could be a timing issue, but the timing is not adjustable, right? he suggested rotating the distributor assembly ever so slightly and see how it acts. There is also a noise around the mid to upper RPM range (sounds like something with a bad bearing, i have no idea what an actual bad bearing sounds like in a motor, but you get the idea) You can hear it when in park and rev the motor or when you are cruising along without any real load on the motor. just seems to be in a certain rpm range. any ideas? I have been told to just drive the d@#m thing, but for some reason i feel like i have to baby it. And that SUCKS!!!!!! lol I'm learning as i go and i just don't want to do any damage.
  3. 86 2.5L automatic 2wd. Going to try to get my hands on some gauges so i can actually see whats going on this weekend. Friend of mine mentioned that it could be the intake manifold gasket since it starts after the engine gets hot. does this sound possible? either way, i should be ok to drive it on little short trips shouldnt I? Changed plugs tonight, and pulled up the rubber mat on the interior (caught the rust before it got out of hand, i think :brows:)
  4. OK, so after a little seafoam in the gastank and a new MAP sensor plug, things seemed to be goin well. after a little test drive down the road, the motor would idle REALLY low when coming to a stop, making turns, etc. so low that it actually shut off a couple of times. The oil pressure idiot light would also flicker on at the same time. after i made it back home i could start the truck fine, it would sit and idle..a little low, but as soon as you put it in gear it would shut off and the oil pressure light would come on. the only way this would not happen is if you gave it gas. More of an engine gunk problem or oil pump problem? i did see another thread with a similar problem, but didnt see the final solution.
  5. didnt have much time to look at things today, but i did notice that the wires to the map sensor plug (according to the diagram under the hood) were kinda rigged up and one had even fallen out. so i unplugged the sensor and fired it up and the throttle bog was gone, but it was running rich. (bare with me guys, I'm learning as i go with this stuff) going to try and get what i need to fix the plug tomorrow and maybe it will fix my little problem.
  6. Thanks for the info! i actually had alot of those modifications in mind, just didnt want to have my hopes set a little to high for the little 4-banger, lol I'm going to try to slowly change out all the sensors, and DRIVE, DRIVE, DRIVE her as much as possible. hopefully that will get her back in shape. I have to admit though, when i bought it i had all intentions of doing the 4.0 swap. After spending a little time on it i think i want to see what i can get out of the little 2.5.....
  7. no, i pulled the tank and cleaned it out and gave it a fresh coat of paint when i had to change the fuel pump.
  8. Hey guys, got an 86 2.5L 2wd with 151,000 on the odo. automatic. truck had been sitting up for 3 or 4 years so it is pretty gummed up. changed fuel pump and filter and started the cleanup process of the engine. it seems to idol pretty well, maybe a little high, and it runs down the road ok although pretty weak. The motor boggs for a second when you step on the throttle then will pick up, is this just something i have to deal with with the 2.5? or will futher cleaning and tuning will this improve? (no lag when you apply gradual pressure to the throttle). havent check my gearing yet but from what i have felt, they are probably 3.55. i just need to know what the best case scenario would be from someone with a good 2.5 so i will know what to work towards. any input will be greatly appreciated, thanks
  9. Thought somebody may find this useful. its a pdf of the vacuum lines and stuff for a 2.5, just thought i would share jeepgarage.free.fr/OWN/2.5l cec system.pdf http://jeepgarage.free.fr/OWN/2.5l%20cec%20system.pdf

  11. Hey guys, I went and picked up my new toy yesterday. 86 comanche custom, 2.5L auto 2wd (most of this i plan on changing....eventually...) Straight rust free body and some pretty sweet black interior that is nearly flawless (as far as comanches go). $500 seemed like a pretty good deal to me. ******EDIT*********PICS************ADDED*********** I have already taken all the trim pieces, rubber floor, and headliner out
