  1. I need help. I can't find a longer stud to replace my existing ones. When I lifted my Comanche I put aluminum rims on it. They're thicker than stock, I only got a little bit of bite on the studs. Now they're breaking off which is very scary. So I'm grounded. I've been everywhere looking for longer studs but nobody seems to carry them. Have any of you ran into this problem before? Does anybody know of a company that sells custom studs perhaps? I just need them to be a little longer. Even a 1/4 of an inch would make a world of difference. Right now they measure 1 3/4 I need 2 Inches. The knurl is .624 The shoulder needs to be bigger than 1/2 inch. I'm pretty sure my studs were stock, so just like our studs but a little longer. Thanks Guys Mack
  2. To bad you live in Southern CA. If you lived up north by me you could've brought it over to my shop and done a diesel swap with me.
  3. I live an hour north of Sacramento, I've got two bucket seats I've been deciding if I wanted to put in my mj or not. They're gray. They don't fold forward though, only backwards. I did find some at the junk yard the day I went that folded forward but they were kind of beat up so I went with these ones.
  4. Hey guys. So I lent my truck to my friend to move and it overheated on him. When it got hot he didn't turn it off right away instead drove for a couple of min. trying to get to water. I wish he'd of handled it a bit differently but there's no use in that now. So here's what it's doing. Still has the pin hole leak, (I know I should've upgraded the cooling system) but iIt starts up just fine. It sounds ok at start up. However after a few seconds it will make a noise that sounds like a real bad exhaust leak and then it dies. I have only started it up once and I haven't experimented with the throttle to see if I can keep it going because I don't want to make anything worse. But my friend said it was dying at stop signs on the way to my house. Any thoughts would be appreciated. You guys have been a wonderful resource in the past.
  5. Thanks for all the info guys. It looks like this is a highly desired conversion, but it looks like it takes a fair amount of doing. I think it is the project I will use to christen my shop when I get it built in my back yard :) I've already got a lift I bought from my father in law when he closed his automotive repair shop. Now I just need a building to put it in lol :)
  6. yeah I can see that, but I'm a scavanger. I usually find good deals and I only by new when I have too. I drive about 5-7K a year I suppose
  7. lol no I didn't. 70 is 55 ;) I've got them figured out now, I've been lifted for quite a while now. You're sure I won't get increased milliage? My milliage didn't really change at all when I lifted my truck, I maybe lost 1 or 2 mpg tops
  8. I was hoping to get high 20's maybe even low thirties. My truck get about the same now as it used to with the stock gears (3.07) My truck is the 4.0 Metric Ton Model. I love the heck out of it :) I just find the diesel apealing
  9. I've got 35 inch tires with 4.56 gears.
  10. I'll really never recoup the cost of the swap??? :( Well can I at least tell my wife that we will??? lol That's kind of what I was trying to see. How dificult is it to do the swap if I can find a cheap good engine on CL or at Junk Yard or something.
  11. 2.5 diesel was in Europe, although if you look around you can find one in the states every now and then. It's just to weak to be in a comanche IMHO
  12. Dave, thanks for the reply. I would love to know who this member is so I could speak to him. My comanche is lifted 8 inches ;) I'll try to research on the mercedes engine swap.
  13. Hello all, I've got a couple of questions I thought I might ask. Anybody have a diesel engine in there Comanche? Anybody have one they don't want anymore? I know that there were two little diesel engines 2.1 and 2.5. Does anybody know of another larger diesel that would go in without to much difficulty? I'm trying to increase my gas millage and I'm tired of worrying about going through water. Thanks for reading and please............ be gentle with me :)
  14. Anybody know if step bars from a two door cherokee will fit a comanche. Or nerf bars from any cherokee for that matter.
  15. ahhhhhhhh..... I'm so ignorant. I learned a lot putting the lift on, but I still have a long way to go. But I do understand why I have an adjustable track bar now :) Yes indeed, I will take some pictures tomorrow!
  16. thanks for the advice guys. It barely touches on the right side, but rubs pretty good on the left. How do I center the axle?
  17. Yet another problem... But I'll call it an opportunity. I've got my 6 inch lift on with 35 inch tires. For some reason when I turn all the way left my tire rubs on my lower control arm... like pretty bad. I've already trimmed back the control arm a little bit but it's still rubbing really hard. Do you guys think I can beef up my left control arm like crazy on the right side of it and maybe the top of it a little bit and cut a hunk out of the left side so my tire doesn't rub anymore? I can't afford the round tubing adjustable's. Any ideas and previous mistakes made are greatly appreciated.

    Front axle

For my comanche. Looking for a bolt in with 4.56 gears
  20. Thanks for the input so far guys. What I'm trying to do is a quick easy upgrade rather than a lot of time and money upgrading my dana 30. Which from what i read will never truly be as strong as a dana 44 no matter what you do. Also my gearing in the front doesn't match the gearing in the rear. So to get my truck back to 4 wheel drive it'd be cheaper just to put a proper geared axle in there rather than pay for parts and labor. I've got a Dana 30 off a yj with the 4.56 gears in it. But that darn thing doesn't mount up because I can't weld on the control arm where it needs to be. I've got about 6 inches of lift with 35 inch tires. Don't mind sticking with a dana 30. Main problem is getting lucky and finding the right gears. Figured if I opened up to a dana 44 as well it would increase my odds.
  21. Hello again guys. I'm looking for a dana 44 front axle to put in my comanche. Anybody know what vehicles should be on my list when I hit the junk yard?
  22. Thanks for all your help guys. I got one off car-part.com for 250 + 100 shipping across the country with only 81,000 miles on it. Pretty good deal compared to all the others on there were around 400 + whatever shipping with around 200,000. Thanks for all your help and encouragement to stick with the dana 30.
  23. Hey everybody. I need a little help here. I've got myself a nice new stong 4.56 geared rear axle, but my front is still the dana 30 3.07 gears. It seems like it'd be much cheaper to just buy a used axle that's already geared how I want it than to go through the whole regearing process. Does anybody know of a good front axle that's a pretty easy install that might even be an upgrrade in strenght that I can search for while I'm looking for dana 30's? Thanks guys- GO COMANCHE!!!
