My driver side window regulator seems to be going. It skips as you wind it. I can't find any manual replacements and junkyards are nonexistent near me. Does anyone know where to find them or just hope someone is selling it on Ebay? Last replacement doors I saw on there were insanely priced.

Side Mirror Screws.
SIERRA051 replied to DesertComanche86's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
That would be great to know. I bought new mirrors and they didn't come with screws. The previous idiot removed the stock ones and bolted old Ranger(?) mirrors on. -
Well, no one answered my emails. Alcan and Deaver might make the best springs, but I'll never know. Hard to buy when no one answers. Alcan actually responded to my initial email, but then never answered my follow up questions about shipping and hardware costs to finish the estimate. I was guessing it would be roughly $1700 to buy new and 6 weeks lead time. That's a tough sell when I need to paint it and buy a winch and rear bumper and taillights eventually... So many things to work on. Anyway the first local spring shop I called said they could fix my old ones for $350. They added a new leaf and replaced the missing clips with beefier ones. Looks good so we shall see but for over $1k less and getting it done in 1 day it seemed like the obvious choice.
-
Yeah, I think I've talked myself into getting Alcan. Seems like best choice. Just gonna miss having the ol girl around for the next month or so. Will update when it gets finished. It deserves some spotlight after all the work.
-
I don't doubt they can. However I'm leaning towards new springs because I intend on keeping this truck and having new quality ones will only help in the long run. If my Rusty's springs bent so soon, who's to say how long the repair will hold? I've only hauled a heavy load 1 time in this. Doesn't inspire confidence in my old setup. Waiting 6 weeks without my truck seems like a long time but I've learned that taking shortcuts and going with the cheaper option usually bites me in the end. I have no clue how they rebuild them though. Do the heat, rebend and retreat them?
-
Well Alcan looks to be the only viable option. Deaver hasn't gotten back to me. Maybe they're booked. Idk. Over 1k for new springs seems a little steep but if they're the best and will last I'm okay with spending that. A local shop said they could fix my old ones for 350 but I'm not sure if that would be throwing away my money for a temporary repair. If it was cheap steel that bent before is 1 new leaf and retaining clips going to make that much of a difference?

I initially bought the Rusty's off road 4.5" kit 7 years ago when I bought my MJ. Was pretty new to Jeeps and working on them 7 then. Didn't realize it was cheap trash. I think the leaf bent first time I went off roading. It sits off level now because the driver side is messed up. I'll add pictures later. Trying to research leaf kits and there aren't many options I've found. 12° North is one of the few brands I've seen besides Rough country. Don't need junk like that again. Anyone hear of 12°N or have any other recommendations? Will add more pics and details when I get home from work.

Now that's some handy info. I'll check into the codes when I get home. Thanks
-
Yeah, I added the info I know so the little quips aren't helpful. I don't know what year the motor or transmission is since I didn't put them in. I know the drive train has been replaced. Nothing is stock except the body. The harness is cut and spliced beyond recognition. I'll have to post a picture later. Maybe it just looks like a nightmare because I've never messed with that stuff much.
-
Yeah I understand and thought about adding info. If there are no places to go anymore and no one makes aftermarket, the specifics don't really matter unless someone here has extras lying around. I don't think I'm going to find any. Everything that old has been picked clean and scrapped. I'll add my info later just in case.

Alright, I've been scouring the internet and I can't seem to find replacement wiring harnesses for the ol girl. The PO spliced the hell outta the engine wiring harness and my relays and lights are a mess. My headlights, interior lights, and rear lights all need work. They've all failed 1 by 1. No mechanic has been able to trace out the issues and I don't have the time to find the gremlins in the system. My fans don't cycle properly anymore and my temp gauge quit working. Now it won't start either. Most of these could be simple but anyway, the simple solution would be to replace the old wiring harness with one that doesn't have 50 splices and bypasses in it. All electronics seem to be quitting on me. I can't keep up. I don't know that anyone makes a harness for these however. Parts are nearly impossible to come by since all the salvage yards have dried up. Anyone have suggestions where to look? Before anyone says just get a manual and trace it out, that just isn't gonna happen right now. Maybe one day in the future I will but that isn't in the cards right now.

I've seen this topic pop up several times. Some custom jobs and a few of the old stock type bumpers, but I've rarely seen any of the ones on the market. Anyone have experience with Affordable Off-road? They looked promising, but I've yet to see any products with a review. I was going to use the same company that built my front but they ghosted me when I contacted them again. https://affordableoffroad.com/shop/jeep-comanche-rear-bumper/ Manta Ray looked good, but some reviews mentioned lack of correct hardware. Don't feel like dealing with that again. I have the Westin, looking for something to match the front. Someone hit mine and bent it in the parking lot.

Can confirm the MTS works. I just ordered one a few weeks ago. I forgot what it was like to not hear the fuel pump running. No leaks finally. Been dealing with issues rebuilding old unit for years.

That's sweet. Love the look.

and rounding out my list of replies @mark corbitt I wish I could find some anywhere. I can barely find XJs to scavenge from at my local yard. I am in dire need of sun visors. Mine are just about disintegrated from age. I didn't take MJ rarity into consideration when I decided to buy one. I love my truck but I have spent many hours looking for oddball parts. Can't find the shifter housing for around the boot inside. Last time I got it inspected the lady moved my seat all the way forward and crushed my plastic. Now it's a sad broken mess that I can't replace. -

@cruiser54 I see. I know how things generally get reposted and I try not to be that guy. I always search first and had some hours logged fruitlessly. I had hoped someone had miraculously come up with something. I refuse to pay $200 for sheet metal adapters from Rusty's. Then you have to hope the combo taillight/turn signal/backup LEDs you find on Amazon will work after you splice into your factory wiring. I wish they had just made the Gladiator more like the good ol Jeeps. Wishing gets you nowhere though. -

@amsuco@amsuco I hate this forum format. I'm having issues replying directly. Bear with me for any repetitive typo errors. Someone went to lengths to put what I believe are some sort of old Ford style mirrors on there. No bracing so it flexes the sheet metal if you have to fold them back. I was 3rd owner I believe. I rescued it from a parts truck turned into someone's backyard hack job farm truck. I have been painstakingly undoing the damage done by previous owners to some degree of success to get what you see there. However, everyone here knows the struggle of keeping these older Jeeps roadworthy. Mechanically she's sound but they hack and slashed my wiring harness. I will probably have to replace the whole thing. I digress. I managed to fix my one broken tail light housing so I could keep the stock ones. Now to spend some time on my ZJ... -

I don't find this forum easy to reply to certain people. Maybe I'm using it wrong. Anyway, I would love to modify it to accept XJ lights, but I don't have time right now. I can do slight modification easily enough. If a certain Dodge taillight was close enough to easily swap I would. Otherwise I'll wait and dab something up. I'm not spending $$$ on old plastic. You can see my Jeep on my profile. It's not perfect but I try to keep it lookin good. I don't hide it in the garage either. It stills gets into some mud :) -
So the problem many have run into is the shortage of tail light housings now, among other things and I have yet to see anyone make an aftermarket replacement or LED housing. Rusty's has a ridiculously expensive set of blanks that you have to buy lights for. I don't understand why they don't have a place for the reverse light. Anyone find anything? I have read multiple threads but have yet to find a solution.

Neverending wiring issues...
SIERRA051 replied to SIERRA051's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yup. I wish it was a simple fix -
I lost my instrument gauge cluster lights. Still have all exterior lights, turn signal and high beam indicators. It's not the fuse. It flickers on and off sometimes. Mostly stays off. Leads me to believe it is a grounding or loose wire problem. Any suggestions? I'm not sure where to start. Can't find what wire should control those lights.

Well my friend had a set of 99 XJ 3.55s with the C8.25 lying around. Gonna try those since the 3.73 is almost as rare as the 44 apparently. Can't find any out here.
-
Alright well I am having trouble locating axles. Craigslist has been a bust. Maybe one of the local junkyards will have some. Any other suggestions where to look? Anyone sell parts on here?
-
So a 2004 Liberty axle with 3.73 would be ideal since I want disc brakes anyway?
