Anybody? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
86 was a bastard year Ive owned n 86 xj and currently own a 86 mj , they have a different engine bay with different rad support and all so some parts are more of a pain to get , with that said if it was the right price I would buy it anyways haha , check my build out i had a buddy retro a newer style xj rad into the 86 so you can have an idea of what I mean http://comancheclub.com/topic/52180-86-comanche-build/?hl=comanche+build Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

86 Comanche build
Callmehickross replied to Callmehickross's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
So I finally figured out how to post pictures and have had the time to start making this thread So here she was when I picked her up Then I replaced the back window because the slider in the old one was broken After that I threw the 97 Cherokee door with roll down windows and modified the hinges so the doors come off Next I had a buddy install this radiator for me because I'm no welder by any means and because I have an 86 modifications were required While it was at his house I had him do the SOA and lifted the front with a 6.5 inch xj lift I had laying around When I got home I threw my old jeep tires on to it to soon realize that 2.5L and 35's don't play well with each other even with the 4.10's So then it was time to work on finishing the 97+ conversion Painted in the middle of the night and as the last coat was driving it started snowing haha FML Found a good deal on a tailgate and mine was mangled so I picked this up and sprayed it I think that's it for now I have 97+ dash and interior new led headlights some sound deadener and a set of rubicon stock wheels so I can get by till the ls swap is done then I will but the 35's back on -
86 Comanche build
Callmehickross replied to Callmehickross's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Right now it's a 4cyl but a v8 is going in within the next year -
Thanks, I am considering going that route. Just look on Craig's list they are a dime a dozen on there unless your looking for roll down windows they are a bit harder to find , there are deals to be had out there Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Get 97+ doors off an xj they look so much better in my opinion Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Truck looks sick before you paint it you may want to do a 97+ front end and maybe doors they can be had for pretty cheap I bought brand new fenders for 88 bucks for both sides and got a front clip and doors off my old xj , looks so much better in my opinion, regardless good luck with the build you have a sick rig on your hands Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

What I failed to mention is I already have that type Of rad and three electric fans fabricated and installed in my mj I had to do fabrications because I have a 86 So cooling shouldn't be an issue for me especially if I look for one with an aluminum block , I'm sure iron would be fine as well the radiator even has a build in trans cooler I payed more for it then I did for my mj (let the roast begin) I wish I knew how to upload pictures from my phone I've been dying to make a build thread but I don't care enough to go buy a computer lol I'm sure I could use a friends but that seems silly I'll pm you and tell you how. But the Novak rad and trans cooler is sweet that what I have. With an iron or aluminum block it'll keep Temps below 200 if you buy there three fan setup as well. It's pricey but worth it. The cooling is solved once you get that. Open or closed. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk Got the app thanks Now that I have it I'll start working on my build thread when I get some some Here's a quick picture of where it sits now Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I hear what your saying but I just feel like it's a lot of work for something that comes stock in a jeep at that point it would literally be cheaper to buy a 4.0 Comanche and swap my lift and 4.10 rears over
-
I was actually considering the 4.8 just because you can get a donor truck 5 speed behind it with 4x4 from factory
-
Yea but I would still need to buy a all new power train , mounts and wiring harness along with a pcm the 4.0 would destroy my ax5 let alone if I stroke it , I feel as if I'm going to spend that money I could just do the ls and be done , the more I get into this thred the more I want the ls in , not to mention I've had a few bad 4.0's kinda have a bad taste in my mouth about them
-
I fully understand where you are coming from I just want to be able to take to the highway on my 35's and the 2.5 is a slug , I was considering a 4.0 swap but for a little bit more in parts I can have the 5.3 in , I also have a 97+dash I like much better that I want to install , the goal is to keep it as jeep looking as possible the 5.3 was just attractive to me for fuel mileage and a more updated and efficient power train , I really don't beat any vehicle I own and I'm not going to be killing this one I just want a reliable and some what efficient vehicle I can take trail riding on weekends
-
Well I'm taking about the whole build I'm going to do lockers and all that nonsense it's going to definitely run me over 10k by the time I'm done the project especially because I wanna keep it standard transmission and the ax5 I have in there just won't cut it Not sure what I want to do with the wiring harness yet if I want to make it my self or not I may just pay the money and get it done professionally
-
Reason I'm doing a swap is my 2.5 does not like my 35's , I know I could swap a 4.0 in but I figure for all that effort I might as well go 5.3 She should get good fuel economy as I don't really beat my stuff up ....all the time haha Not to meantion I have the complete 97+ interior waiting to be installed as the 5.3 gets slapped in
-
I do really enjoy modifying the mj and I really don't plan to get rid of it so I think I'm going to just pull the trigger and assembling/collecting the parts I need I would still be interested to know if anyone has need n ls mj/xj for sale and what the price point was
-
I just wanna go on record saying the goal isn't to make money I just don't wanna get sh*t on if I do go to resell it
-
I'm just scared to dump 10 grand into something that I won't be able to sell for 5 haha I really love my mj but I'm trying not to make dumb financial car decisions as I have in the past I dumped thousands of dollars Into an xj just to have people offer me a grand on Craig's list I feel like the mj will hold its value better because they are pretty damn rare but it's just always in the back of my mind
-
I've been researching the benifits of the ls swap but was wondering what the value of the mj would be after I've done the swap obviously other mods come into play but I don't wanna drop money into something and just "throw it away" say the swap cost Me 3k and it only added 1.5k in value. That would kind of frustrate and figure it wouldn't be worth doing , anyone have any input or has anyone seen a v8 Comanche for sale and what it was going for?
-
I have a 86 Comanche long bed I just picked up and I figured I would be cool to do a build thread I'm going to try and include as many pictures as I can and feel free to ask any questions
