  1. I am just going off road in the woods nothing to rough but i do need to pull a trailer every now and again, about 4-6k weight range. It's my daily driver and only truck so on road is something i have to keep in mind. i need to go to lower gears 4.11 ish because of the tire size i am using. i will get a locker one day but that's a ways off, my budget is tight atm. The dana 44's i can get around here are from dodge trucks mostly there are a few junkyards around here. one has something like 30 dodges. The rear axle under my truck has nothing on it but a little pin to center the springs. everything just bolts on with the U-bolts. i can get bigger bolts and make or adapt the current plates to fit a D44. will there be any issues other then that when installing a D44 from a dodge truck?
  2. Thanks for the tip, now to go pillage my local junkyards !! about the axles, i run 285/65R18 BF goodrich TKO2's (there about 32 inches tall) Is the dana 30 front axle safe to go light offroading with that size tire? I can find dana 44's rear axles easy, i was thinking i needed to replace them both. Can the dana 30 front axle be upgraded to make it a good offroad axle for 35's?
  3. I need to upgrade me gears to 4.11 or 4.56. Is it better the just get replacement gears for the stock 30 and 35 or upgrade to bigger axles? Does anyone know if there are axles 44's or 60's that will bolt on or need little modding, i can get in a junkyard? I don't have a welder but would like bigger axles without buying new ones. Is there a way to get rid of the idiot lights on the instrument cluster? I would like real gauges not just lights. what gauges should i use and can a tac be installed?? thx for any help
  4. problem found!!!! it was the flywheel sensor. the cable was about 2 feet long and fell down near the exhaust pipe, baked off the coating and burned some of the wire. replaced and it runs great!
  5. auto zone's where i got my fuel pump get the spectra one. the Ballast resistor is listed as a Ignition part ( Ignition resistor i think ) Spectra Premium/Fuel Pump Part Number: A1157EP Advance Auto Parts has the Ballast resistor
  6. Got fuel pressure where it should be, but still have the missing / backfiring problem when cold. could it be something other then fuel? I double checked the timing it's dead on. just change the plugs (champion copper plus) and cap/rotor/wires have less then 1k miles on them. the problem has gotten progressively worst, so i thinks it's something going bad but i can't think of what. could the Ignition Control Module be the problem?
  7. fuel pressure regulator is new and there is about a 8-10 psi jump when the vacuum line it removed
  8. as far as i know it's the original one not sure if it was changed or not only know it's a AX15 because the shop that rebuilt it told me that is what it was it's a plain 5 speed no overdrive looked at some pictures it might be a BA10 not sure
  9. just rechecked it it's dead on is there anything that will make the fuel pump run at a lower PSI just replaced the fuel pump and it's running the same 25ish PSI as the old one
  10. 1987 JEEP COMANCHE BASE MODEL 4.0L I6 MPI BA10 transmission NP231 transfer case Build date:unknown door sticker is gone, first use date is 8-87 Current Location: KY Status: Daily Driver Notes: tan vinyl bench seat, color black (mostly), floor shift. still have the window sticker and metal warranty id card. i am the 3nd owner Rusty's Trail Bumper 4.5 inch lift ( Rusty's leaf spring pack kit ) 285/65R18 BF Goodrich TKO 2 Current owner: Me will post pics after i find some place to host them
  11. know where i can get replacement hoses and elbows?? most are worn but not leaking that i can tell
  12. O2 is new also will the fuel resistor on the fender make your fuel pressure low? just replace the fuel pump and getting about 26 psi 34ish with the regulator unhooked
  13. hello This is my first post but i have found a lot of useful info here so thanks guys. I have a 1987 4x4 4.0 I6 mpi that i have been rebuilding for the past few months. i got it running well but now i have had major problems in the last few weeks. When the engines cold it puts to much fuel in, it misses backfires and shudders badly if you push the gas pedal down. the tail pipe smells strongly of fuel. Run it for 15-30 mins and it will run fine. i also get only about 12 mpg right now. I have rebuilt or replaced (with in the last 800- 1000 miles) nearly everything in the truck. engine was fully rebuild as was the transmission and transfer case new injectors, fuel pump, regulator, every sensor except the oil pressure new computer (bendix), Ignition Control Module, coil, plugs, wires, cap, and rotor About the only thing i haven't replaced is the starter and alternator both tested and working fine. i can't find the problem and it's driving me nuts. Thankful for any help or wisdom anyone might have. P.S. i just replaced the temp sensor fyi side note on my mods to the truck Rusty's Trail Bumper 4.5 inch lift ( Rusty's leaf spring pack kit ) 285/65R18 BF Goodrich TKO 2 Anyone know where i can get bigger axles 44's or 60's (what to look under in the junkyard)??
