  1. thanx thats a huge help there!! i noticed one of the comments mentioned putting a 90' ECU in his 87 XJ. would there be any real benefit to doing this? obviously the 90' ECU would be tuned for the High Output engine, so what would be the end results? Not tuned for the HO. That's another story. Put an 89 to 90 ECU in it. You'll love it. is the 90 ecu plug and play with the same connectors? oreillys has it for $108 with a $58 core!
  2. I don't get excited by what anyone says Dirty. Even you. As far as MJ HO incompatibility, that's not quite right. Of course HO MJs all have OBD1 systems, and it's more difficult than adding forced induction to a 97 and up OBD2 4.0 since they are more standardized and easier to tune. Adding superchargers to 4.0 Jeeps has been done for years. Hesco ran an Eaton M90 on an OBD1 MJ back in the 90s and it's still going strong AFAIK. Plenty of kits available now online too too, like HERE. Looks like they are even "developing" one for the early MJs. Renix MJs? Maybe. Lot's of luck with that. i did see that looks like a good set up, but for the price id rather do it my self and say i did it my self. plus with the set up I'm planning ill be able to use a inercooler. however all the tuning options are nice. if i had the budget and wasnt a do it my self-er id go this rout. but the 7th injector isnt a bad idea. if i have to ill have a 7th injector bung made into my custom rail and intake and splice it into one of the existing injectors to supply extra fuel, however the fact I'm redoing my full fuel system and will have the ability to run higher fuel pressure and flow it may not even be necessary
  3. this is true. at this point I'm going to start with upgrading the entire fuel and ignition system and adding the timing control and see how the renix handles it. at 12 psi max i thin k it should be able to keep up seeing how ill ill be enabling it to use as much fuel as it needs for the afr and the timing control will help me stay on top of detonation. now i know i may still run into problems but ive seen a few online with not much info behind the project run on less this video as a example this was what gave me the original idea to boost my mj. hes using the same supercharger i am going to use with far less thinking ahead than i am. and if this old engine goes boom then i get to build a new stronger one and then i could go to a aftermarket efi system
  4. hey LS miatas are nasty lol
  5. this is the timing control I'm looking into, but i have to get with MSD and find the right ignition control to match it, but it should solve that problem. knock sensors ive seen a few kits around $200 that seem good. anything else i need to touch base on? https://www.msdperformance.com/products/rpm_and_timing_controls/timing_controls/parts/8680
  6. I'm only making a custom fuel rail so i can have -8 AN treads on each end and so i can place my regulator on my return side of my rail and eliminate oem regulator that probably wouldnt reference boost well. and from the basic search you turned me on to retarding the timing shouldnt be a issue ether, just have to find the right controller.
  7. By using an external controller wired into the ECU harness, like A Unichip or Split Second FTC. But that ain't going to work with a Renix. That's why I asked you above how you are going to tune it........... so my options then to prevent knock are going to be with octane and fuel/air temp. hmmm from what I'm reading the ecu controls all the timing through the cps tht said theres no way the ecm can adjust timing based on sfr or be changed... that will take some thought. well if there wasnt road blocks on custom projects they wouldnt be fun right? :laughin:
  8. well i plan on having a wide band AFR gauge no matter what to monitor my AFR, and I'm already going to have a aftermarket boost referenced fuel pressure regulator that can do 3-65psi and having a custom fuel rail made, I'm also planning in running both a inrtcooler and a fuel cooler as well. the only thing i havent figured out is retarding/advancing timing if i need to and doing a knock sensor if i need one. how do you adjust timing on the 4.0? do use a timing light and turn the distributor or what i havent ever looked tbh
  9. well the m90 is a small low boost supercharger, in the thunder-birds where this version is from and even the gran ams that use them they use the same computers as the none boosted models. in "theory" the factory set up should be able to keep up. its only going to be running 12psi max anyways and I'm going to use a blow off valve and start at 6psi and work my way up in testing. I'm re doing the whole fuel system and have a 125psi fuel pump, o in theory if the o2s run lean the ecm should open the injectors more and with me new fpr I'm using i should be able to meet the necessary fuel requirements, I'm still trying to figure out if ill have to do anything with timing or not yet. at such low boost i don't expect ill have to retard timing any.

Not tuned for the HO. That's another story. Put an 89 to 90 ECU in it. You'll love it. any tips on where to get one? i don't trust the junk yard for electronics, and ant tips on replacing it? never really looked at it but just a glance.

  12. oh any tips on how to adjust the fuel peddle? it sits low and bottoms out after like to inches. the cable dosent seem to be adjustable in any way ether
  13. well without pulleys the m90 maxes out at 9-12 psi max, so supper low. no matter what ill need better injectors. as far as AFR I'm still trying to figure out a good way to adjust it. Renix doesn't leave much options as far as that. later down the road a ecm will come in but thats a ways down the road. but at the low boost ill be running the factory set up should be able to keep up.
  14. ok guys here in the next month I'm going to be starting working on my 87 mj again and I'm re-doing the whole fuel system to prep it for a Eaton M90 supercharger!! i want to ear some opinions on fuel injectors. i red a few forums that sat the Volvo injectors work best in the renix jeeps and the 4 hole bosch seams to be the most popular option. so i wana hear what results you have gotten with what. also, has any one used the bosch 12 hole injectors? and if any ones got a boosted 4.0 out there lmk how your rig is set up!!
  15. ok thanks. guess i have to play with it to figure out what wire does what huh?
  16. ok guys back at this again. which one of these is the position switch for the display lights to show if I'm in FullTime or Part Time, and what is the the other one? Also i know that it uses a spring and ball tumbler and is internally grounded to power the light but any clue as to what wire is what? any help would be awesome as I'm having to custom wire display lights. oh and does any one know where the harness to the old 5spd is for the revers lights? i don't remember unplugging one.
  17. I'm just not sure a aftermarket static fuel pressure regulator will be right for the change in fuel demand through all rpm ranges. i know the factory vacuum controlled can change psi and flow to an extent to meet demand. i won't be able to do that with a static regulator
  18. i already have a aftermarket 45psi out tank fuel pump which should be plenty for what i need. I'm going to wire it straight into the factory harness so it works just like the factory one. i also an converting to a fuel cell in the bed just because i don't like the placement of the factory tank, being so close to the drive shaft and all. my main concern has been regulating fuel pressure seeing how the factory vacuum controlled one will be useless after boost is introduced. and of course theres no way to eliminate it without trying to find some way to make a fitting for the fuel line. thats why i was looking into the dead head set up and of course there are no aftermarket rails to speak of :(
  19. does any one know if the Renix system had a built in Pulse Wave Modulator to control the Duty Cycle of the Fuel Pump? :???: i can't find anything on line and I'm JW because i don't always hear mine running, and I'm going to have to redo my fuel system soon to better meet the needs of a Eaton M90 I'm about to put on. :rock on: I'm thinking of converting to a return-less dead head system and having PWM will help keep my pump and fuel cooler while helping make sure I'm meeting my fuel requirements. also has any one ever used a After Market Stand Alone Engine Management System?? i would love to get rid of the renix system and have tune-able control over my AFR. also not much info online so if any one knows pleas share your knowledge  I'm also getting close to finishing my 4x4 swap from my XJ. should be done this up coming week so ill me making build post showing the progress ive made
  20. ha ya sorry guys, mad the original post in a hurry from my phone. the reason i want to run the other TB is because I'm planing to Supercharge MJ in a month or 2. that TB would just make the piping a little easier. he current one ill have to make a flange to adapt the piping but its got a port for the IACV what will make a flange harder to make. just weighing my options. ill be posting up a build post for all the work I'm doing
  21. What would it take to swap out a total body from a 87 comanche to the one out of a 96 cherokee? The comanche has a intake tube that has to be screwed down by a rubble flanch and i need a cherroke one where a intate tube clips on with a hose clamp. I need to know if The mounting hole for the total body are same. And if the wiring for the throttle postion sensor and the idle air control valve are the same. I need to to know this information before i go the the junk yard and get one if you can answer my question that would be appreciated.
  22. the panel right above the lighter is blank and has no lights thats where in going to put it
  23. ya i stole the display plate off the xj cluster and i was going to build a light board behind it. i just need to know what plug is for that position sending unit and what wires do what. but from what i understand from what you said, when i shift into lets say Full Time, the switch grounds the circuit powering the light? which one of the plug in is it, or goes it use both?
  24. I'm prolly just going to try and fond a aftermarket speedometer that will accept the electronic signal from the sending unit. what are the 2 plugs on my t case for? i know one has to be a position sending unit
  25. ok guys i need some help fast I'm doing a 4x4 swap and using the AW4 and np242 out of my 96 cherokee and putting it into my 87 comanche. i got a nifty lil shifter from RaDesign that will allow me to manually control my trans. all i need to know is where the wires for the 2 solenoids and the lock up torque converter wire is. and what all the other harnesses coming out of the trans and tcase are. the shifter uses only a 12v hot and 2 signal wires, one for each solenoid to control the trans. if any one can tell me whats what that will help allot!!
