  1. update all figured out!! but summit sent me the wrong color Tach -.- ill post some photos tomorrow when I'm all finished
  2. I think you have the wrong wire connected to the hot side of the high beam indicator. Why would you connect it to the turn signal? It's on with the high beam HEADlight, so tap the hot side off a headlight. well when i was going through the wire harness the first time, before i looked at the pin diagram that turn signal is the only one that would turn it off and on with my brights switch, which i don't really under stand. pin 8 is what it shows i need . but i should be able to get it now. ill post back tonight with results, its been raining here in south texas so its been a lil hard to do anything seeing how i don't have a garage lol
  3. i think I'm looking at a different Electrical manual, mine only goes to 102 http://www.bteventures.com//mj1988electricalmanual.pdf and according to what i see, turn signals and hi beam all use the same ground and my alt uses its own ground. and no color code but i think i can figure it out now
  4. what page of the Electrical manual shows the cluster connector and does it label what the color coded wires go to? i spoke to soon, as it turns out i have it figured out less than i thought... i hooked up all my new indicator lights ans LH turn signal works right and my ignition power light works and brights work, but when i use my RH turn signal or hazards it looks like a flashing Christmas tree lol, so now I'm thinking some of the other circuits have dedicated grounds but thats all i figured out before it got to dark to work
  5. ok so I'm making a custom gauge cluster for my 87 mj and i ran into a snag, well more of an annoyance. from what i can tell most of the lights in the gauge cluster use a common ground, ive successfully mapped the harness for everything i need but the bright indicator circuit is giving me problems. it gets its power from one of the turn signal hots and turn on and off as it should, but when i use that turn signal with brights on the indicator flashes with the turn signal. any thoughts? i can't imagine this is how the original cluster was wired but ive never used the turn signal with the brights on, can't really think of a reason you would.
  6. ok has any one replaced your door lock cylinders? I'm trying to do mine and it looks like its just a black flat metal clip thing and maybe a c clip holding it in, but its so tight i can't figure out how to get the bastards off!! any tips?
  7. well ive been looking through it for the better part of an hour, ive found the connectors and the coding for the prongs, but it doesn't say what prongs go to what wire and what they are for. it has a general wire color guide, ive kinda pieced a little together though black ignition connector Red = battery orange= fuel pump relay black= ecu ground/ ecm ground purple= not sure white/ red stripe= not sure Blue ignition connector Yellow= starter switch Brown= not sure Green= not sure and i still can't find anything about the other rod operated switch that was on the column
  8. ok guys I'm going to switch/push button start on my 87 MJ and need a lil help identifying what wires do what. if any one happens to know the color code and what color does what that'd be a big help!! also there's this momentary switch that was connected to another rod on the column that i need help identifying first the black plug that was in the ignition switch purple wire black with white stripe white with red stripe red wire orange wire next the blue connector that was in the ignition switch green wire brown wire yellow wire then this switch 2 lime green wires 2 white wires one big brown with black stripe I'm trying to set it up with 2 switches , one for accessory power, one for ignition power and a push button for the starter, but I'm open for recommended set ups
  9. real quick, whats a good 4 hole upgrade injector for the renix in my 87 MJ? looking for plug and play compatibility that i can get at oreillys, year/make/mod of whet they are out of or part numbers will be much appreciated!
  10. ok guys, i need a bit of quick info on the cooling system on my 87 MJ. when i got it it had a closed radiator on it and this aluminum coolant reservoir on it with a radiator cap on it. i when i did my 2wd manual to 4x4 auto swap i took the radiator out of my 96 Cherokee that had the cap. i noticed the tank had a few holes in it so i pulled it off to get them welded while i was in there i did a heater core eliminate. lets face it here in south Texas i don't need it! XD not that it worked anyways. My question is can i bypass the reservoir at the thermostat housing and use it just as an over flow tank, or should i run both hoses and keep using the system as is with 2 radiator caps??
  11. ya i don't plan on messing with exhaust right now, besides summit racing sells plenty of high flow cats cheap ill go to one of thos eventually, as far as heaters ect, none of it works i don't even have controls for any of it all my safety gear works though. I'm not to concerned with passing. the place i go to passed my xj last year with one headlight and only 3 shocks XD i just want to clean up the engine bay and don't want to cause negative running conditions. the supercharger is just a pet project for this year. next year I'm going to build a 350 sb and a 700r4 to put in it, hopefully the engine last until then lol
  12. well ill be re doing the fuel system so the charcoal can go to and no ac ect and my 4x4 isnt vacuum controlled so I'm good there. as far as the regulator goes, I'm having a custom fuel rail made so i can mount a boost referenced FPR. but cool looks like i know what I'm doing Saturday!! lol
  13. what bout the ball thing in the bumper and the charcoal can?
  14. ok so let me start of by saying that i live in texas and emissions isnt required on anything 25 or older. the next part and the main reason i want information on removing all the emission parts besides eliminating clutter, is I'm going to be putting a Eaton M90 Supercharger on my 87 MJ in the coming months. and most of that stuff won't do any good under boost. has any one removed all of their emission parts? any tips? ive heard the Renix don't run well without it. ive pulled emission stuff off other cars before and noticed no difference.
  15. well I'm not concerned with gains from the from the intake but I'm already upgrading the fuel system so thats not an issue, i did find a 68mm jeep TB tho that I'm going to look at. it would be ideal size
  16. ok guys here's my question, can the renix system run without a iac? if so ho well? I'm asking because in the next month or so I'm putting a eaton m90 supercharger in my mj and I'm having trouble finding a aftermarket throttle body that has both tps and iac. the only ones ive found are 92-102mm which is a lil big. i know itll work with a 92mm because nomatter what the supercharger won't suck more than its going to suck but i was looking for more of a 68-75mm throttle body, but i can't find one that has a iac port... any suggestions?
  17. ha if it runs a lil smoother itll be worth it, ill pick up way more than 9hp with everything else, and hey maybe itll handle it a lil better. but I'm not worried itll read lean and ill have all the fuel pressure and flow to let it do what it needs to
  18. how big is to big? I'm going to have a eaton m90 supercharger on it, but I'm having trouble finding smaller aftermarket throttle bodies that have both tps and iac, 92mm is the smallest i can find, now i know i can use that and the engines not going to suck more than it needs but still wish i could find an 70 or 80mm
  19. MT ECU won't kick it 50 rpms for the PN function. And you know that how? Old AMC days. I'll buy that!! so the moral of the story is still stick with the auto trans ecu?
  20. hey guys has any one used a LS style aftermarket throttle body? I'm looking at one for my up coming project and wana see some photos of how they set theirs up. the one I'm looking at shouldn't be to hard to adapt the 4.0 TPS ans IAC to
  21. Just be sure the "new" ECU has the original 90 part number on it. do you know the part number? and i don't see new ones they are all re mans
  22. cool looks like ill go with the auto ecu then its a few $$ cheaper too!!
  23. i wonder the same thing!! my mj was originally man trans. now the way i put my auto trans in dosnt require a tcm but i wonder if the engine tune is any different, like does the auto trans one tune for a few more hp to compensate for the small loss in brake hp in the TC?? i would think keeping brake hp numbers consistent between equipment and trim levels would be concern with the manufacturer
