Whew got lucky and caught it before it became an issue. There us some slight surface rust. Little bit if wire brush and primer good as new. I'm glad I didn't wait for the special order one. Being on a tropical island it rains almost every day. I got enough other issues to fix on the truck. I definitely don't need to add more to it. Lol

Wow I didn't even realize that. They told said it would be an original fit to special order. What I don't understand is why the one they have on hand would cost more to have installed. My thinking it should be cheaper because of eliminating the shipping. I am heading there now to get it done. Hopefully they are able to install it. I have no idea how long it's been leaking and if there is significant rust to prevent them from doing it. Crossing my fingers on that one. Lol

I have already decided to go with gasket set up. I think it's the wisest thing to do. I could wait for an original fit windshield but the 2 month wait to get it is just adding more chances for other parts to rust. It may sound expensive now but if I put it off an extra few months, how much more would it cost to repair the damage the water leak will cause? That's what made me go with the more expensive way.

I just found out recently my windshield is leaking. I was sitting inside the truck on lunch break listening to music. Started raining which happens fairly often here. I happened to have a plastic bag on the floor of the truck when I heard water dripping onto the bag. I have been inside the truck several times when it's raining and never saw it before. I was planning on replacing the windshield in the future because it has a pretty long crack where the mirror mounts. The other day I was fixing to pull my headliner out and was wondering how one of the screws holding the visor up was rusted badly. So today I called all the auto window places and everyone of them told me that they had to special order it. It would take 8 to 10 weeks to be shipped by boat and it would cost $415. So I had to bite the bullet and ordered it. While there I was telling them that a windshield out of a Cherokee would work it's pretty much the exact same window to try and cut the wait down for the shipping. The lady helping me pretty much ignored what I was telling her so I put the deposit down to have windshield ordered and shipped. I leave and about 15 minutes later she calls me and said she was talking to one of her technicians and he informed her pretty much the exact same thing I was telling her. The good news they have the windshield on hand and I can get it replaced Thursday. The bad news it's costing me more $449 because of having to use the gasket instead of clips. Price for windshield is $271. That is the one bad thing about living on a island parts are extremely hard to come by and if you happen to get "lucky" and they have a part on hand it's on the expensive side. I was also told that if it has any rust around the windshield they will have to send to the body shop before they can do it. So it may even cost a lot more than that after its all over with. Unfortunately I have to get it done so I can move forward on fixing the interior. I am hoping for no rust and everything goes smoothly.

The back axle I am assuming is still the stock one and it's an 89 dana 44. On a side note. I saw an add for an 08 commander for a parts car. Is there anything on that that would work with our trucks? It said it have a 5.7 hemi in it.

Thank you so much. Awesome group of guys here. Learning a lot from everyone and reading all the threads.

Hey guys trying to save a little time. I need to replace brakes on my truck. I went to go pick up a set of brakes for front and back but was told that the back is available in 2 different sizes. Does anyone happen to know correct size for a dana 44 axle? I don't really want to have to pull it apart and measure and then have to put it back together to go get the shoes. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

I will try everything suggested. I will have to wait until my next day off to do it unfortunately but will give you guys an update if your suggestions worked. Thanks for the help really appreciate it.

Hi guys, I have an 89 with a 4.0 and a manual transmission. When trying to start the truck it takes several attempts to get started. It acts as if the timing is off. It will backfire through the throttle body after cranking for about 5-10 seconds after releasing the key. Normally it takes 4 maybe 5 times to get started after the long cranking. When driving it will occasionally backfire while shifting gears. Once in a while it will sputter and backfire while accelerating. To try and fix this problem I have replaced the plugs, wires, cap and rotor, a new coil and the part that coil sets in. Sorry drawing a blank on what it's called at the moment lol. I have put in a new CPS as well. I have gone through and refreshed the grounds. Is it possible a new TPS will fix it? A coworker was telling me to simply adjust the distributor by turning it to advance or retard the timing. Unfortunately that is not the solution to my problem. The Jeep distributor is fixed and is controlled electronically. At this point I just about willing to try anything to get it running smoothly.

I think it would be nice to have but being practical I don't have the necessary resources here to make it happen. Maybe if I was back in Texas I would do it. Been trying to find a place that will ship the front end parts I need to replace is challenging enough. My lower control arms looks as if PO has cut and extended them by welding tubing onto them. Not sure if that is standard set up or not. Most of the ones I have seen are one piece unless they are the adjustable ones. I noticed looking at other threads that guys say SOA on back nets 6" lift. Basically I'm just looking into track bar, upper and lower control arms, and sway bar. Priced individually it would be more practical just to buy a lift kit. UPS and fed ex are kinda funny about shipping here only can use usps. Unfortunately with usps kits weight to much to be shipped through them.

Normally it's almost impossible to find decently priced parts here. Most times I end up ordering online. Once in a blue moon will find something priced reasonably axles are a good example. Needed a radiator went to all the parts places here and only Napa had it. They wanted almost $300 for a single core. Other places had to special order it and it was about $250. Went to rock auto and got it there. With shipping think it was around $140. The one junk yard we have here I quit going trying to get parts from. They are over priced and very poor customer service. It's like an inconvenience for them to help a customer.

Guam. Moved here about 10 years ago.

Thanks guys.

How much would those cost to make them work? I already know I need to do a lot of replacing on my front end. Would it even be worth doing? I can get both axles for $100.

I just got an offered a set of axles out of a dodge 2500. I wasn't really looking for them but the guy is hard up and really needing some cash. From what he is saying they are out of a 98. Dana 60 Front Axle Dana 70/80 Hybrid Rear Axle. My question is would they even fit under an MJ? According to him they would work. However I prefer to ask people I know who have considerably more knowledge about it.

I am replacing the damper to the correct one. I already have it ordered just waiting on it to arrive. Sure wish I would have found you guys before I replaced it. Hate throwing money away, but I would much rather have it fixed the right way. Thanks for all the advice and help.

Just measured the top of axle to frame approximately 12.5" on front. So using the diagram and subtracting the standard height should have 4.5" lift. Back is a spring over axle. Not sure how to take that measurement. Would it be better to get the adjustable track bar?
-
Okay will do as soon as it stops raining.
-
I believe it's a 4.5" lift. As far as being centered not sure.
-
Okay thanks will order the parts today. Hopefully have them in 2 weeks. With track bar should I buy an adjustable one because of the lift?
-
Any particular years I'm looking for tie rod, drag link, sway bar, and track bar?
-
I have been considering replacing the front end for a while. From what I am hearing so far it would be the best thing to do. Any suggestions on what are the best kits to get?
-
Lol. I agree. She is smarter than I am for sure. lol.
-
Just discovered that as well. Lol. Hornbrod sent me a picture and noticed it was missing also. I am a bit surprised at the previous owner. Obviously he didn't care about fixing something correctly the first time. I think my best option is just to replace what's there with new parts.
-
Never knew it was wrong until looking at the manual. When I replaced parts I went with how it was set up already. The previous owner had it "modified" this way. At the time I didn't have the manual and assumed it was correct. Lesson learned lol. Previous owner was an idiot. Lol
