Trust me on this one when it comes to Amazon. I thought the same thing with the shipping. The free shipping does not apply to US territories. I can not remember exactly what I ordered from them but I know it was for the truck and it wasn't anything large. I bought a few things because supposedly spending a certain amount qualified for "free". The very first thing I noticed was a ridiculous amount of time for it to be shipped out. I ended up waiting almost 2 months for it to arrive. 2nd thing was the shipping wasn't free at all. What is funny to me is while the post office considers Guam as a US address, companies that sell things consider us international. I have no idea how that works. I know it sucks trying to find places that doesn't consider us international.

Since joining the club I have bought stuff from several different members. Everyone I have talked with and bought from I consider friends. One thing I have to say is this is a great group of people. Hopefully one day soon I will be able to help out others as several have helped me with knowledge. I do trust the people in our club. I do appreciate your offer to help out. I will email you soon. At times it would be nice to be back in the states, would be awesome to actually get to meet the people that have been so helpful.

I still have the same issue with shipping no matter which way the kit is put together. We have 1 junk yard here and they are not a place I like to do business with. Their prices are close to buying new and each time I have dealt with them they act as if it's an inconvenience to help a customer.

I have been looking at several different options to replace the lift on what the previous owner has done to my truck. If my phone would allow me to upload pictures you would understand why I want to replace everything. I didn't notice this until I was under the truck replacing the fuel filter. On the passenger side of the truck a piece of wood was used as a spacer to drop transfer case. Seeing this and a few other things like the damper and the missing sway bar, makes me question what else has been "modified". As it is now I have no confidence in suspension so I decided to go with a Rubicon Express 5.5" lift kit. It has everything needed except the shocks and is supposed to be bolt on. I think I can get away with my current shocks for now since it's already lifted and they were recently replaced. It's a bit pricey but have seen a lot of positive reviews. I was about to order it when I noticed how much it was going to cost to ship to Guam. I was thinking $200 should cover the shipping cost. I was a bit mistaken with my estimate. The cheapest I can get it shipped here is almost $800. That just about doubles the cost of getting the new kit. There has to be a better/cheaper way to get it shipped here.

Cracks in metal around back glass
CJ's MJ replied to CJ's MJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
One thing about Guam is people will use a car until it falls apart. The locals call them Guam bombs lol. Seen several that actually look as if it's held together by duct tape. A few years back I saw a camery that had no doors, no hood or trunk, had plastic bag taped to the back covering where there should have been glass. It had vice grips for a steering wheel and it is still on the road today. Lol. -

Fish plate? In simple terms, a fish plate is a method of reinforcement where a "plate" of steel overlaps the joint being welded, and does so in such a way to break the weld line of the original joint and disperse the stress load over a wider area. If you google search it, you will find a lot of results on it. Awesome idea. I will definitely implement it in when it is getting repaired. Thanks a lot. :-) -

Did you ever run a Carfax or similar on your truck? It would be interesting to see where it originally came from and how long it's been on Guam. I sold a Chevy Celebrity I had to a local when I left there to move to the Marshall Islands in the early 90s. A few years later I was on my way to Japan via Continental Air and took an overnight on Guam. The taxi that I used from the airport to the hotel turned out to be the same Celebrity I had sold years before. Found out it had been sold several times since I left and was still chugging around earning $$ as a taxi. No I haven't done that yet. I will check it out later today after work. You are right would be interesting to find out where it came from. -

Cracks in metal around back glass

That's the bad thing about buying an older vehicle. You just don't know what the previous owner(s) have done to it. When I bought my MJ I had no clue as to what may be wrong with it. At times I think I should have passed on it lol. Don't get me wrong I really like my truck it's just getting it back in good condition is costly. Lol. By the time I get it to where I want it more than likely I will have invested several $1000s in it. Unfortunately being on Guam everything I need I have to have shipped. Back there I could run to the JY and save a lot. I am starting to understand why so many people list them on craigslist for $20k lol. That being said what's my best options to reinforce it? One day I would like to be able to take it out and do some wheeling. Lol -
Hey guys I was wondering if anyone would know what causes the metal around the back glass to crack. I noticed that I have what you would call stress cracks in all 4 corners. I never noticed it before but recently discovered it. It's been there for a while because of the rust build up. It explains why the guy I bought it from painted the truck. He was trying to hide the problems. Lol. There is also a roll bar so it also blocked view of the cracks. I can't seem to post any pictures with my phone or I would put some up. The lower passenger side looks to be the worst it has a significant amount of rust build up. I originally thought the rust was from the back glass leaking through the sliding window. But after discovering the cracks I don't believe it's what's causing the rusting. I know it isn't helping it but not the original cause.
-
Now I see why the guy who I bought it from painted it. Lol. I have several cracks in the metal around the glass. I don't even have a clue why or how they happened. They were hidden behind a roll bar so wasn't easily spotted. They are in all 4 corners around the glass. Best way to explain what I need without pictures is to say if you look at the back of the truck, everything you see of the cab is the section I need. I have some rust in the upper corner on drivers side. I am unsure how bad yet because of the plate is blocking my veiw . The passenger side lower corner appears to be the worst of it.

I can't seem to post pictures with my phone. Can I send pictures to an email address?

Hey guys I know this is a long shot but figured it's worth a try. I just discovered around my back glass is rusted badly. I need to replace it before it gets any worse. I just need the window section mostly. Maybe cut from top of cab to just below the bed so the seam can be hidden easier. If anyone is doing a part out or plan on scrapping please let me know.

Last time I checked tickets were running about $2300. That's a lot of windshields. Lol
-
I should have saved my old one for you. But it would probably be cheaper to buy new there instead of trying to ship from here. 9000 miles away shipping would be killer.
-
I got the windshield fixed. Took it back down there and they re-sealed the windshield from the inside. Took them about an hour to do and all is good there now. I started pulling the plastics out of truck 1 to clean them and also to run some new wiring. I just discovered my back glass has been leaking for quite some time. The lower corners around the glass are rusted badly. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Unfortunately I don't have any metal working skills so will have to take it to a body shop to see if they can fix it.
-
I just looked at the receipt. Urethane was used. As far as pulling the windshield out again by myself I really don't want to do it. Its a bigger risk of breaking it doing it solo. My experience in the past it's best to have 2 people handling it.
-
Thanks Eagle. Wasn't aware it would have been an issue. I have to wait a few hours before they open to find out if they will attempt to fix it. If it is Butyle did they happen to mention what to use to seal a leak? I see this here all the time, a lot of people will just silicone around the trim or use some kind of tape. I don't want to do either of those. It looks awful. Lol. I am almost positive the shop is going to say they can fix it but since there is no warranty it going to cost again. Don't know about you guys but I hate paying for something twice when it should have been done right the first time.

1987 Comanche for parts ( getting crushed )
CJ's MJ replied to Yanks28th's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
Did anyone try to contact them about the parts? I sent then an email but haven't gotten a response yet. Several decent parts there. Would be a shame for them to be destroyed. -
comanche after market tail light lens
CJ's MJ replied to Richard Trafton's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I don't mean to hijack the thread I recall someone posting about using S10 tail lights a while back. If I recall correctly they said was a pretty close fit. I have been trying to find that thread again but haven't had much luck. Since the tail lights are getting harder to find it may be an option in the future. Normally when I see people selling tail lights reasonably priced I will buy them. As old as our trucks are now plastic parts get brittle and break easily. -
It must be my lucky day. I just picked up my truck and I got a discount. The price dropped down to $390. I know it sounds expensive but I'm happy it went down. ☺

The JY here is a joke. I have been there a few times and they act like it is an inconvenience for you to be there to give them money for part. They also are way over priced. Several years ago I had a car I was looking for door handles for. When I went there they were asking very close to dealer price. I decided to check online and found them for almost next to nothing. I got all 4 for about 1/4 of the price including shipping of what the JY wanted for 1. Living here is nothing like back there. I am very fortunate I have a decent job that pays very well for what I do. Like Hornbrod was saying cost of living here is pretty high. We have to import everything. Guam doesn’t have much to export. Something that cost $1 back there you will pay $2.50-4.00 depending where you shop. It's very relaxed here. You always see people out BBQing almost every weekend. When I lived in Texas I very seldom saw that. People are always so busy back there. Living here, simply put, there isn't much to do.
-
I agree lol. I live on a tiny island called Guam. I did shop around on windshield. Everyone referred me to this place. No one else was willing to touch it. I have gotten use to the fact everything here cost 2x the price back there. i still hate paying it but here its the norm. Next time I need a windshield will see about having one shipped in. But again shipping is killer as well. Most places don't ship here.
