1988 Jeep Comanche, 4.0, 5 Speed, 2wd. I've had it for a few months, did plugs, wires, cap, rotor, water pump, and some other maintenance when I got it. Its been running good, but had an oil leak, and clutch slave cylinder was going out. So this past week I did pilot bearing, slave, rear main, and oil pan gasket. While it was apart, I noticed the crank position sensor wire was burned up. I cut the burnt a action out and soldered new wire in. I got it all back together last night, and now it has a horrible rough idle. Under load it will smooth out, but at idle its bad. Slow down to come to a stop at a light and it dies sometimes. When idling, it sounds like it has a miss.

Been working on the truck after work lately. I will update with pics later. I took the flares off, cut the front bumper, fenders, and bedsides. Currently welding the bedsides back to the inner fenders since I cut off the factory welds. Back to work, update later!

Guess this died? -
Just changed the water pump and belt.

Anybody ever complete this?

Mine was leaking from everywhere. Lol. Also, we have some 17 and 18" jk wheels at the shop. I may get adapters and throw a set on the MJ.

Tailgate still functions? -
Replaced this leaky piece of junk today. I'll post pics of the new one tomorrow.

Gonna make a trip to orlando pick and pull junk yards 3 weeks from now I think. If nothing turns up there, I'll give them a call. AX15 would be worth the drive, maybe not the d30. They're pretty easy to come by.

I also prefer a short bed, but mine is 100% rust free. I couldn't pass it up.
-
Also looking for 94+ ax15 since it has the external slave.
-
Oh yeah, for sure. I wouldn't buy an lp30.

Welcome. I picked up an 88 long bed last week that I will be building.

Couple pics of the xj I built to keep the thread interesting:

Oh, I thought you said FL. Lol, jk.

I did champion plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air filter, and fuel filter today. Got rid of the miss she had. Runs a hundred times better now.

Thanks. I'm in fort myers. If you're in Florida and post in here, let me know where you're at. I can always use new friends.

Truck doesn't have any rust, and a pretty straight body. No idea why they rattle canned it. Was the owner before the one I got it from.

The paint job is what sold me on it. ;)

Haha, thanks. I know the addiction.

First off, my name is Harley, just joined the site. Its official, today I picked up an 88 Long bed, 2wd, 4.0, manual. This is my first MJ, but I built a mild 91 XJ a couple of years back. Miss the XJ and started looking for another one and found this for a good price. Ive always loved MJ's, so I jumped at the chance to pick this one up. I currently work at a truck shop in southwest Florida, so the build should be fun. I will be wheelin it while I build it, so it will have to be in stages. As soon as I can locate them, it will get a d30, ax15, and np231. Then a small lift, and wheels and tires. Long term, it will get full widths, lockers, some sort of long arm setup, exocage, etc. Here are a couple pics of it tonight when I picked it up:
