Need Speedo help 90 to 00 Swap
zfinger replied to zfinger's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
How much of the 00 XJ are you swapping in? Dash, wiring harness, and OBD2 system? Yup, all of it. Got a couple days of work left and she'll be ready to fire up. -
Currently working on a 00' XJ swap into my 90' MJ. I'm using the 231 off the 90', which had a speedo cable up into the cluster. The 00' uses a sensor? How do I make this work?

The internet didn't lie to me! Bolted right up! 00' AW4 will bolt to a 90' 231 off an AX-15

Lebaron vents in the hood. Steering is something homemade from a previous owner. 3/4" rod ends, solid steel. Everything is pretty much late 70's Bronco. Handles fine without a stabilizer. I've done probably 70-80mph (broken speedo) in a straight line down the highway and it tracked great. It drives like a monster truck though, big and slow with the turning radius of a school bus. Went snowboarding today, I'll be back into the truck again tomorrow. Firewall, dash mounting tabs, and the fuel tank are on the to-do list. -

Where to buy MJ lift leaf springs?
zfinger replied to zfinger's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Is there a 6" option? -
My MJ has some sort of bastard pack in the rear. The top leaf has a gnarly groove worn in it from an old clamp and I'm afraid it'll break. Who makes lifted leaf packs for the MJ? I'm not even sure what size I need either. SOA on a 9" already. Found some 4" through Rusty's but they might not be big enough. http://www.rustysoffroad.com/rustys-leaf-springs-mj-4-rear-pair.html

The donor was a 4x4, just didn't come with the t-case.
-
I hope you're correct. I've been doing some more reading and it appears you should be right. AX15 - 23 spline AW4 pre-91 - 21 spline AW4 post-91 - 23 spline
-
I've got a 90' MJ about to get a full 00' swap and I came across another hick-up. I'm swapping in the 00' motor and automatic transmission. My 90' t-case already has a SYE kit in it. I don't have the 00' t-case. Going 90' AX-15 to a 00' AW4. So its a 231 with the 21 spline input gear. It'll need to be a 23 spline. What are my options? Can I buy the 23 spline piece I need and swap it out in the t-case?

Free > $100 Plus I'll be going to a fuel cell probably within the next year
-
Here is what I've come up with as a solution. I found a flange online that was aluminum and was meant for fuel XJ pumps into fuel cells. But it's $160 and I can make something close for cheap. Feel free to chime in if you see any flaws in my logic. I cut out the top of the plastic XJ tank where the fuel pump sat. Clamped that down on the mill and made the outer edge flat with the bottom of the groove. I made a simple steel ring, sectioned in 2 piece that will be inside the MJ tank. Bolts will point up and the XJ ring and pump will bolt down to the top of the MJ tank. The pump will drop in and the ring will screw on as it was designed to do in the XJ. I'll use JB Weld or some gas-safe epoxy between the plastic ring and the top of the MJ tank to make a leakproof seal.
-
I'd open up a good piece of the top of the tank. Kinda "can opener" it and peel back a flap, cut what I need to, then fold the flap back down and reweld it all. A good rinse should get out any debris. Long story short, my MJ was dead when I bought it due to mud in the fuel system. Tanks are easy to clean, and the inline filter will catch anything I miss. Right now that's my best option. Make the XJ pump fit the top of the MJ tank.
-
So is using my 90' tank not an option? Can the slosh pan be trimmed or reworked to make room for the XJ pump? My MJ is still on the road, so I haven't torn into it yet and have no idea what the tank looks like inside. Fuel tank ring to add an XJ pump to another tank http://www.genright.com/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=APR1000#.VJDZpOv77yA
-
Slosh pan? I assume that's some baffling down in the tank? Where did you find a tank without a slosh pan? And the adapter ring for the fuel pump, where did you get that? As soon as I get the fuel tank figured out, the swap is on! There's a mountain of parts taking up space in my shop right now.

Do you know what the year range for the Dakota tank is?
-
Or if you want, you can strap the XJ tank in the bed... I'm leaning towards just strapping the XJ tank down in the bed for now. Next spring/summer I plan on building a tube bed and going to a fuel cell. I'd rather not deal with finding/installing a Dakota tank, but that's a good option. I'm also looking at modifying the MJ tank to fit the XJ pump setup. I'll be spending my evening doing some reading on how that works.
-
I just stripped a 2000 XJ and I'm getting ready to swap it over as soon as I know I've got all the pieces. The fuel system is what I haven't figured out yet. I read in some of the 97+ swap threads people using TJ components or modifying MJ tanks to fit XJ pumps. Whats the issue with using the stock MJ tank and pump? Or why can't the stock XJ tank be put in place of the MJ tank?

It was a rollover. Flopped in the passenger side. Runs great, even yard drove before the axles and t-case were sold. I wanted a 97-99 not a 00, but options and money were limited. I need this swap ASAP, I don't trust my Renix.
