I think I may try to clean the idle air controller as Eagle suggests! I recently bought and sold a Cherokee with the same engine set up and it did not do this. I am sure it has to be something. It has done this as long as I have owned it (since it had 88K). I use sea foam on a regular basis, so most of the fuel system should be good. Thanks again for all the feedback!

Congrats on all the new parts you scored with your MJ, Squeegy! :clapping: I always carry cables with me but winters here in Texas are pretty mild. Rarely gets cold enough where I'm at to even worry about CCA's Oizarod, it does seem to be up around 1500-2000 right when it fires, then does settle down. I've tried priming by turning the key on and pausing before starting and doen't seem to make any difference. Thanks again for all the input

Thought maybe someone here could help with a quick question. Every time I start my MJ, it cranks a little longer than I think it should before firing. It always starts, but just seems to crank long. Once it starts, it seems to "spike" in idle, then immediately idles normal. Just never has seemed quite right. Any suggestions? It's an '89 4.0, btw. Thanks!

Not trying to kill a sale for anybody, but isn'tt a Cherokee bumper the same? I'm sure there are some pick-n-pulls in the Houston area. They're cheap too! Just a thought.

Man I just don't know this for some reason! :wall: I am trying to sell (locally) an AW4 transmission I pulled from a '92 Cherokee Sport 2 wheel drive and I had a guy want it but he has a 4x4. Did they use the same tranny for the auto and the 4x4? I know transfer case..... Guess not ever having a 4x4 Comanche or Cherokee, I never really thought about. Couldn't really find the info I wanted on the web. Sooooo, what's the answer? Do I get to call the guy back and sell it, or wait for the next guy to come along? Thanks for your help!

Thanks for the input guys! Yesterday afternoon I messed with it some more and figured out the heater noise IS actually just the fan motor. Easy enough fix. The fuel pump issue I just can't figure out. 2 new pumps, a good clean replacement tank and a new fuel filter. Anybody know if the design of the inside of the tank is as such as it could be "vibrating" against a baffle or something? When installing the pump, I can feel something straight down to the left of the opening that the assembly tries to "rub" against and sometimes makes it fun to get the pump in. But IF this is the case, I wonder why the pump starts off normal (quiet) and then gets progressively louder? :dunno: I think I may pick up a new ballast today just to see what happens. I hope this is the right place for this post?? Recently, my father in law and I bought a 92 Cherkoee to tinker with then sell. When we bought it, the guy said it needed a fuel pump and gas tank and it had no heat. I had an extra gas tank/fuel pump so I didn't think that was a big deal. Switched them out and still needed to install a new fuel pump. Everything worked fine until we drove it about 3 miles, then the fuel pump got real noisy. I called Auto zone, they sid bring it back. Installed a 2nd new one and now the same thing. Could the fuel pump ballast thingy be the issue? We went to test it but our test had a lead wire break off so we couldn't use it. Any other causes of the pump being quiet at first, then becoming very noisy? As far as the heater goes, we hooked up a couple of hoses to the heater core and made sure we were getting good clean flow through it and we were. Hooked the heating system back up and got heat back in the vehicle, but now there is a persistent whining sound coming from the area where the heater core is. It does this with the heater on or off, so I don't think it is the fan. Any thoughts? Thanks for any advice you guys may have!

Great write up! Last week I installed a set of Infinity 4" in the b-pillar spaces. I found them at a local boneyard in an old van. They were cheap but I took a chance on them and they sound great! I had to screw mine right in the center of the original brackets (a year or two ago I put a set of Alpines in the doors). No amp just a sony cd player to push them and I am finally happy with the sound. Not real loud, but a good quality sound. Thanks again for sharing!
