What quickly made the top of my $#!& list was the poorly engineered C101. The C101 is the junnction box on the drivers side firewall that the harness feeds in and out of. I have already done the C101 connector cleaning per forum advice but the more I read about it it just seemed entirely unnecessary and many have removed it entirely (including Chrystler just 2 years later) For reference, here is a picture of the C101

The engine bay free of the old hacked n spliced harness:
-
So I briefly considered selling the MJ (pleading temporary insanity) but have decided to keep it. I decided that if I am in fact going to keep it I am going to give it a full electrical overhaul and clean up my engine bay...
-
Well... entire engine bay is now "wireless" Took every bit of the harness out as completely as I could all the way up to the ac controls in the cab including the ignition and computer. Going to the JY tomorrow to try and find a suitable fuse/relay box donor. I plan on mounting it on the now completely vacant passenger side of the motor. Id like to try and weed out all the unnecessary stuff and keep it as simple as possible. It is ridiculous how much $#!& is here to operate so little. I'm recycling as much of tge stock harness as I can and will be bench testing everything as I go to make sure whatever I reuse is functioning properly. Honestly having all this wiring strung out on my bench is a little bit daunting but hopefully this will simplify everything and make future diagnosis easier.

I appreciate it but Ive gotta have it on the road asap. Hornbrod I just now was able to download those links you are awesome dude. I couldnt for the life of me find them.

Bond style... lol

Thats actually something else I'm questioning. P.O. said it was a swap from an 88 YJ but that can't be right forca number of reasons- the intake mani is even stamped XJ. On a side note anyone know a good place to hide a body?
-
Thanks hornbrod I can't check them now because I'm @ work but I will check them out when I get home.

While a prefabbed unit would be ideal I don't have the money for one unfortunately... The wire harness in the truck is complete up to the pass side fender well- thats where the mess begins. The C101 bypass is just a good way to eliminate that area as a potential cause of shorts and the fuse box is probably going in the garbage. The passenger side of the engine compartment contained (IIRC) the following: 4 or 5 yellow wires stripped and tied together with a single wire nut- two running up the harness to the drivers side and dissappearing into the loom, one to a 4 terminal relay hanging lose, one to the ICM and possibly another (will check when I get home) 3? orange wires stripped and capped together-one in another free standing relay, one runing through a series of conectors towards the header panel, tge others I will gave to check later today... I rememver that there was a green wire that I tapped and applied 12v to and it turned the motor over but it too dissappears into the loom. From what I gathered on google there should be 4 relays on the pass side, but I only have 2? There were also a host of plastic connectors dangling free with no apparent home. Tonight I plan to pull the computer, fuse box, C101 and harness out and try labeling everything as best I can from what limited information I have been able to gather... Does anyone know where I xan fing a pin out of the ECM?

Hey guys, During my dash swap I came across some (more) dodgy and downright dangerous wiring... Ive googled myself stupid trying to find a complete Renix 2.5 wiring diagram but havent had much luck. Right now my entire wiring harness is a mess and I can't make heads or tails of the spliced connections, jumpered fuses and rats nest sprinkled with wire nuts in my engine bay. I would like to do the C101 bypass and make a new (under hood) fuse panel and relay holder from a donor at the jy (havent sourced yet) but I'm at a bit of a loss as to what goes where, what I actually need and what I don't and how to even begin going about this. I had an 88 YJ a while back and I did the nutter bypass on it and was wondering if anyone had tried something similar on a Renix? My goal is to create a clean and simple wiring harness using the bare minimum needed to run properly. My first request would be a pin out diagram of the Renix 2.5l computer harness as I understand its inclusion unavoidable (I would be extatic if I found this to not be the case) Second would be a diagram of the ignition wiring from key to starter. Third, the charging circuit. And finally the fuel delivery system. Any thoughts, links or advice would be grwatly appreciated.

no mines 2wd

^ thats a good idea

true but there isnt much room the fan is right there. i could just put the glove box cover on it i guess but then its just a non functional faux glove box...
-
this is my other problem... the wj glove box doesnt fit and now I have this unfinished area... any suggestions?

notice the stock headlight switch wedged up under the column? I wanted to run a simple toggle switch for the headlights and running lights but everyone on here said it was a bad idea and no on has given any input as to what then is possible to eliminate this eyesore and safely switch the headlamps.

So here is where I'm at and a bit stuck at the moment. Doesnt look like alot of progress but it took some time to get everything lined up and then it all had to come back out to be wired properly...

none yet still dealing w dash supports and odds and ends of the swap. havent had any spare money to get parts but I'm planning on swapping for the wj center console in a few weeks and seeing about 97+ doors if money permits. christmas just wiped me out yhis year
