i took a look after reading your reply and see what you mean. not that i thought about it but i wouldnt have been able to anyways due to my seats, that did not recline forward, being in until i got home with the new ones lying in the bed. thankfully my front-rear adjustment is exactly where i need it so no worries. here's a pic finally of them installed: -

wipers only have one speed: slowww. through some searching i found Cruiser's Renix tips thread and decided the dash ground upgrade would be an ideal place to start before i worry with replacing hardware. right off the bat i was thrown a curve-ball. i can't locate the factory ground. i see a bolt hole with scratched paint surrounding it. i am guessing this is where it was originally. the guages work, buzzer, dome, blah blah blah...does anyone have a pic of what it should look like? as well i found some misc dangling connections. to the best of my knowledge everything is working so they may be old or terminated but, i wanted you guys to have a look and let me know if you recognize any of them. the first pic is of the hood release and what i think was the original grounding point, the second of where i am supposing the jumper should mount and the rest are obviously the misc connections. thanks so much for your help guys!

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one. if you don't post a price, or post "call for price," i usually won't call for price. sideways pics or, pics taken from someone who has been in a coma sinc cameras were invented (i say that because for some people to post the pics they do, they clearly have never actually seen a picture before) aggravte the crap out of me but, no pic at all? in 2013!? i did mean to call on this one though. probably because i just picked up my MJ and have the bug. forgot all about it though

i believe it is 55" door pocket - door pocket. the ranger benches are roughly 48". i did not go that route as i thought that was giving up too much but, having spent the weekend fabbing my seats, they may be the easier option however, i'd love to see the underside of a factory MJ bench. the contour more specifically. i probably have 2 1/2" of fabwork (sounds better than shimming) between my stock floor brackets and the sliders on my new seats and that still doesnt put you above the tunnel...and i feel like my seats are a smidgen tall. granted, there is still the question of slider assembly height and seat thickness... -

I'm going to wake this thread up if thats ok with you guys. i believe the booster in my '88 is going. i can hear it hiss every time i touch the brakes, until i the pedal reaches the floor, and my idle gets pretty rough. i know my preferred JY had a WJ and a 97+ XJ that were waiting to be processed and moved to the yard last week so they should be ripe for picking. i will refer to the DIY for parts list but... Don, you mentioned a '91+ brake light switch swap. which makes more sense? modifying the rod? or swapping the switch? -
Seat Conversion
noboundaries.jd replied to JeepComanche89's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
welp, i just finished my seat conversion. it took about 20 hours start to finish and was a royal PITA but, they look good and more importantly, they feel good. i think they may be a lil high. i measured the height of some cherokee seats at the JY and tried to come as close as possible. true, if you have the MJ floor brackets and decent skills you can make any seat work but, it is also true you can take those seats, douse them with gasoline, and set them on fire. i tried, to no avail, to find JY seats in great shape that would be comparable to XJ seats. the seats i settled on came out of an '87 Celica that was in remarkably good condition. i knew i needed to gain some elevation so i choce to use 1 1/2" unistrut. hey, its solid and its predrilled. i headed home stopping by my shop along the way to make some rough cuts and grab what hardware i thought would work. this install would have taken a lot less time but the trip to the shop to make cuts and grab hardware quickly multiplied. btw...next big purchase will be a welder. the 1 1/2" of additional height from the unistrut was not enough. the seats were too wide and would need to just about clear the top of the tunnel to fit. i drilled out rivets and tacs and removed the feet from the new seats. i then drilled new holes through the sliders where the feet had once been mounted. using 1/4 x 1 1/2 flat stock cut the width of the sliders and 5/16 x 3/4 G5s i spanned the distance from the left slider to the right. I'm certain many of you have done this. i then took 1" square stock cut to 14 1/2" and drilled 3/8" holes that would line up with the mounting holes in the front and rear floor brackets. 2 pieces per side. i cut my unistrut down to 12" and sat it perpedicular to the square tube, directly on top of each floor bracket. i grabbed the seats and set them on top of everything (the 1/4 mounted to the sliders sat on top of and parallel to the unistrut) and made my measurements for the mounting points. i pulled the seats out one more time to drill (2) 3/8" holes in each piece of 1/4 that directly corresponded to the floor brackets. the rear brackets are so low that i actually had to assemble everything including the rear floor bracket on the tailgate which made for a heavy seat finstallation. i loosened the front floor brackets before i installed the seats, sat the seats in, got everything lined up and using 3 1/2"- 4" Gr8s i tightened everything down and voila! i preferred the 4" Gr8s for alignment's sake but some places did not allow the room for adeed length so i used the 31/2 instead. they are solid, they look like they are supposed to be in there, they were worth it. i planned to take pics along the way to do a write-up but that went out the window with the first snag. once i figure out how to put a pic on here via my phone i'll get a cab shot. they really look that good -

Keyav8r: thanks, that makes plenty of sense GrumpysMJ: i like it! will the plate clear the tunnel mounted directly to the brackets? i don't know how tall the original sliders were as i don't have them but, seems like youll lose some amount of altitude. i dig the idea! -

i apologize if i came across as ungrateful. i appreciate your post. i found that picture a couple of days ago and it is what helped me to realize that i do have the correct floor brackets but, that is ALL i have. i found some seats to pull that I'm going to have to use some flat stock to mount the sliders with. shouldnt be too difficult providing the bandsaw at work hasnt walked off again and the factory seats sit centered on the brackets. -

i don't need a picture of the brackets. i need to know if the seat sits centered on them -

btt hey guys. can either of you verify the side-to-side positioning of the seats on the MJ brackets? I'm having to go this route for my Comanche and because they were crudely done before i have no idea what is right. all i have is the MJ brackets, no sliders -
thanks! yeah, i have the MJ floor brackets only. would love grey 91 laredo seats but, i want access to behind the seat. i KNOW it will only be a matter of time before i want to burn them to the ground if they arent 2dr seats and can lean forward. i combed the yard today and no dice. any seat i use will have to have pretty narrow sliders for me to be able to mate them to the MJ floor brackets. found some late 80's celica seats in good shape and the style complimented the late 80's MJ interior but, like all the seats out there their sliders pretty much rode the outer edges of the seats. can anyone tell me what the normal seat bottom height is?

hey all! I'm a 5 time XJer and a first time MJer! i just bought an '88 pioneer 4.0/ auto 2wd. it has a crap paint job on it that looks pretty good from 5 feet away. 2 feet if parked in the shade. and a crappier bedliner job but, it's solid and runs like a 4.0. man its nice to have a 4.0 sitting in the driveway again. first question...seats! i drove this girl 3 hours home the day i got it and my back was KILLING me. someone swapped seats in it and did a poor job of it. after looking at the bracket chart in the informative picture thread i have concluded these seats are sitting on factory bases, not rails, just bases. i have done plenty of searching over the past week and can't find an answer to this question: what seats (other than jeep) have people successfully adapted? my local boneyard has 1 2dr XJ but only the pass seat. i discovered Rodeo front seats recline forward and found a decent pair however, i know some 2dr cars have seats that will not only recline forward but, will slide forward at the same time. i am not opposed to doing the 2 things independently but, just curious if anyone on here has tackled this before. I'm heading to the JY this afternoon armed with a socket set and a tape measure TIA Jon
