  1. I chose not to intercool my swap. It would have required a skinny, long intercooler like is found on a dodge neon. I decided it was simply easier to mount a Snow Performance water methanol injection kit to keep the EGTs lower than modify what was needed for an intercooler. The Snow Performance kit has many benefits and when towing I can definitely feel the difference in power when I toggle it on and off. Your build will look very nice when finished. When your project is complete it would be cool to do a photo shoot with our trucks together.
  2. Yup! Finally got my copy in the mail today.

  4. I no longer own this Comanche, but I like to keep track of it. After selling it to Mount Zion Offroad, they did suspension upgrades, brand new tires, installed rockers, roof rack, and a high output engine swap! It is now for sale! They are asking $11,950, so I thought I would post it on here if a fellow Comanche owner is interested. Image Not Found k

  6. Where to begin? I put many miles on the truck since last posting. It has towed my JK Wrangler to Vermont, and to many offroad trips to Rausch Creek. It took second place best of show in the PA All Breeds Jeep Show in York, PA. It runs great, it smokes a lot, it is insanely fun to drive. JPFreek did an online article which I will post the link here. JP Magazine is also doing a print copy in a few months. I'll try to post some pics soon. 7. I wish I was able to post photos, but it won't let me right now. A lot has happened since this article. Interior all in black, painted engine, 10k lb winch in the front bumper, LED Trucklights, and much more. I used the truck to haul my Wrangler to Killington, Vermont for a Jeep Jamboree and it did great in the twisty turny hills! With the engine upgrades, it will do a nice rolling burnout in 3rd. (Video to prove it) =) JP Freek Magazine is planning to do a feature article on it later this spring. May issue maybe? Keep your eyes open.
  8. I don't know, I've only driven it 3 times. :( Immediately after purchase, I realized it had a leaky water pump. So, I could've spent $60 and fixed it. Do you know what I did instead? I pulled the whole engine, added a bigger turbo, 150hp injectors, new fuel pin, and sandblasted and painted along with new seals and gaskets. I also added a water methanol injection system. I went from 160hp to over 320hp. Over 100% hp increase! As soon as it was out of the diesel shop (East Coast Diesel) it went to Hummelstown, PA at Posies Rod and Custom. They installed Dakota Digital glass display panels, heat and air conditioning, and a few other goodies including electric door locks. Once it left that shop it went to Mount Joy to an upholstery shop where it received a complete interior makeover. The interior went from tan to black, and Dynamat Extreme was installed for extreme sound deadening. It is due for inspection on July 8th, then I can finally drive it again. Right now I am installing a winch in the front bumper, and wiring Rigid LEDs in the back bumper, along with a brake controller. On July 17th I'm headed to Killington Vermont on a Jeep Jamboree. The truck will be my tow rig for my Wrangler. Once I get the truck inspected and all the new bugs worked out from all the modifications I did, I'll post some pics. All of the above started from a leaky water pump... ;)
  9. I look forward to seeing what you do to your truck. I have a 6bt in mine, and it is awesome! Zach from Z&M Jeeps has a lot of different parts if you are looking for some.
  10. You can see it here. http://comancheclub.com/topic/41090-88-j20-turbo-diesel/
  11. See more photos of the J-20 here. http://comancheclub.com/topic/41090-88-j20-turbo-diesel/
  12. I purchased my first Comanche a few months ago out in Illinois. I am from PA, so we made the long drive out to bring this awesome truck home My dream for a diesel Comanche started last year at the PA All Breeds Jeep show. I saw a company that did Mercedes diesel swaps. I also saw an 88 J-20 at the Mount Zion Offroad booth. This truck was awesome, and made me look into a diesel swap. I contacted Mount Zion Offroad and they said they would be able to help me out with my project. Fast forward half a year. I took my Comanche out to Mount Zion Offroad for them to take a look at it to see what was involved in converting it to diesel. When I arrived, I saw the 88 J-20 sitting out front so I inquired about it. The truck was everything I wanted to do to my truck, but on steroids! It was well put together, had a solid frame and axels under it, and best of all, it had a Cummins turbo diesel under the hood! It is essentially a restored J-20 body, stuck on a Dodge 1 ton chassis. It drives awesome too! Short story made even shorter, I traded in my Comanche keys for an 88 J-20. If you want to track my first Jeep truck, the Comanche, keep an eye out on Mount Zion Offroads website. It should be for sale in a few weeks. http://www.mountzion...igsforsale.html I'll post up a bunch of photos below, because I read elsewhere on the forum that everyone here is too lazy to read or click links. =) Feel free to ask questions. Here are some photos of the 88 J-20 and the 89 Jeep Comanche, followed by photos of the J-20. 13. Picked the truck up yesterday evening and trailered it home. Today I went out and taught myself how to drive stick. I've always driven auto, so this was quite a learning experience. After about an hour I'm comfortable enough that I think I can get myself to work tomorrow. Watch for a new topic about this truck under "Other Ongoing Projects" Image Not Found

  15. Here is an additional photo of the truck, since some of you guys are super sleuths and already uncovered a few photos. Image Not Found
  16. To answer a few questions: 1. It is a Cummins 5.9 liter 2500 Turbo. 2. It is an intercooled engine, but the intercooler is not currently hooked up. That is my current project. 3. Core support looks good to me. I will be fabricating some brackets for additional goodies beneath the hood in the near future.
  17. When I said only 50 or so were made, I was going off info supplied to me by the previous owner of the truck. This may or may not be accurate, but it would be interesting to track down and figure out how many were produced. The previous owner mentioned some type of registry? The truck does have 88 stickers on it as well, but as someone mentioned earlier, it may well be a leftover from 87. I discovered this truck at the York Jeep show last year. It is truly a work of art, I wouldn't say it was butchered at all, but that is purely my opinion. The only vehicles I drive are Jeeps. I have a Wrangler, and then I purchased my Comanche. Soon after I decided I wanted a diesel in it. When I took the Comanche to Mount Zion Offroad, I saw this truck parked out front. It was everything I wanted to do to my truck, except on steroids. Yes it is a Jeep body on a Dodge frame. Does that bother me? No, at least they kept it Mopar. Are a lot of parts borrowed from other model/style Jeeps? Yes, but that doesn't bother me either. I have dealt with Mount Zion Offroad before, and always came away satisfied. Great guys, great customer service, great work! The J20 is still at Mount Zion Offroad. I am having some additional work done to it before I bring it home, but when I do, I'll post some more photos if people are still interested. Thanks for digging up that information. I just learned a lot more about my new purchase! That also a big part about what I enjoy about owning a Jeep, and being part of this group of people. Everyone is helpful, and it is always a learning experience!
  18. Nope, just dirt. No Jeep should ever be 100% squeaky clean all the time...
  19. And since everyone loves photos, here is another one! Guess you guys will all have to wait until next week for more photos when I pick it up from the shop. I'm having some work done to it, then I'll start a thread under the "Other Projects" section. Image Not Found
  20. I am under the assumption, as is the owner, that it is a true 88. Is there any way to verify for sure? A lot of parts, including the grill were swapped from a Grand Wagoneer. Hornbrods illustrations were very interesting and helpful, thanks for posting!
  21. I'll post a teaser... :laughin: Image Not Found
  22. I was going to post up a photo, but since you guys don't want me here, I'll just go deactivate my account... :(
  23. So I traded my Comanche for an 88 J20. Only 50 or so of them ever made. Am I still welcomed around these parts, or do I need to find a new place of residence?
  24. This my friends, may very well be one of the last posts you will hear about this Comanche...I went and traded it for another Jeep. Another Jeep eh? Yes, an 88 J20. Its Jeep...Its a pickup...Its awesome! In a few weeks I'll be rolling coal. Stay tuned for the whole story...
