  1. Yes siree Brother Bob. There are still several unfinished details. I want to at least get new rubber before the reveal.
  2. My initial idea was to have the option of brake assist or of course steering. I think the brake route is over kill but I haven't entirely ruled it out yet. The overall plan for this build is a reliable dd with bullet proof offroad capabilities, without breaking the bank. I know...how do you accomplish that? The real trick for me is to not have the Comanche totally disabled for extended periods of time.Thank you Mr. Bob. I'm kinda OCD. :rotf:
  3. Swapped the rear slider for one piece.
  4. Gave the engine a little attention. Alot more work to do.

    Inspiration

This thread was spawned yesterday morning while watching Xtreme 4X4. While attending and participating in the most recent PA All Breeds Jeep Show, I had opportunity to visit early Saturday morning with Ian of Spike's Xtreme 4X4. The activity had not kicked into full gear, so or exchange was leisurely and basicly uninterupted. He had his rig on display and I listened and looked with interest. He seemed to be a genuinely nice guy. Before I had a chance to share my entry with him, the crowd increased and I slipped away. On Sunday afternoon as the event was winding down and the infield mostly clearer of all but a few vehicles, from several yards away, Ian was crossing the infield toward his rig. It was entertaining to watch him gawking at our deployed Comanche overlander. I wanted to wave him over but resisted considering he's a busy man. Fastforward to yeaterday / If you follow Xtreme you know that this season they've already featured a Comanche and yesterday the started an overland toyota build. I may be a million miles off, but I could'nt help but wonder, "Hummm...I wonder where Ian got his inspiration?" The reason we were still around was because we earned a dust collector.
  8. My wife dug out a copy of the for sales listing. Like my fisrt Comanche, it had been posted the evening before I purchased it. Like most of us, I had been searching for a 1992 for quite a while. It's the Eliminator model sporting a 5 speed trans. About the only origional item was the owner, Mario. Wheel and tires are BFG KM2 265-75-16s on early AEV Pintlers. I had stated the lift hight of the truck as it sits loaded. The actual lift is a custom 4CLF 6" front long arm using RE springs and Fox nitrogen jounces. The rear suspension is a Deaver soa with Fox remote reservior shocks. Other dive line mods include: 4:56 gears, Detroit rear locker Dana 44, ARB fron locker Dana 30, Crane diff covers,TJ bell housing w/external slave cylinder, Golen I-6 4.6 liter stroker with 50K at time of purchse, Thorley headers, Hesco 30mm throttle body, Safari Snorkel, K&N filter, a Split Second FC 1-019BV fuel and timing calibrator and ratio meter. Body protection and gear include a Warn winch spooled w/Viking line, ARB front bumper, All J rear bumper/hitch, 4CLF double swing-a-way tire carrier, Nomad Fab air tank sliders,Delta H4 headlights, Baja Designs Fuego HID lights, Hilift jack, and Gearsafe lockable storage. 9. Have you considered fiberglass fenders and bedside buldges? The topic is on this site. I like you choice of components. Several appear to be used in industrial applications? Are your tires Pitbulls, size?
  10. Reflexxion produced their cowl induction version. It rises from front to rear. I'll post up a few more pics later.
  11. A little off topic, but here ya go Buffalo Bob. This is not the actual trailer but this is an Adventure Trailer at Overland Expo.
  12. Forgive my ignorance. What is an FSJ style hood?
  13. Here's Mario's, aka elcoyote, build history link http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/15684-AT-Comanche-upgrades?highlight=at+comanche
  14. Sweeeeeeet!!!!
  15. Replacement motor mounts. Of the bullet proof varity. Shipped my steering gearbox to Azle, TX for a complete rebuild and assist ports at PSC Motorsports.
  16. Yes, the hood is a "Reflexxion". Wish I had bought three, if I'd only known. I'm not sure of the color code, but it is dover grey metallic. I am very partial to the color before clear coat. I'm planning on the same color on project Guilty Pleasure with matte clear. I'm at the western side of the state in the Appalachians, just a couple hours south of Pittsburgh. Backpacking and hiking are high on my list of priorities. Back to the truck. The interior was getting a makeover as well. I didn't want the oversized Eliminator on the bedside but wanted to retain a subtle presence. Seats seemed like a good location. Also had the headliner and visors covered as well as the door and rear panels. These are my wheels of choice, AEV 17s.
  17. Here is the link for the feature article in JeepFreek magazine: http://viewer.zmags.com/publication/310f4223#/310f4223/56
  18. Thank you my friend. You can see why my projects are getting stretched out. I've been very lucky to find nice solid trucks. My wife is very understanding but says I have an affliction. :ack: She recently ask me, "How many Comanches does a man need?" My reply, "Apparently three!" :rotf:
  19. Mig welded inner fenders where quick disconnects punctured both sides. The engine bay and frame rails get a makeover.
  20. They were small blurbs. I'll try to compiled the info tommorrow. This rig fits our lifestyle perfectly. It has been on the net for awhile, not really sure why it never made it to Comanche Club. :dunno: The original owner and his wife put over 370,000 miles on his truck with over 30,000 offroad. Can you imagine? His company installed many of their prototype products on the Comanche as well as using it for marketing. Their website has an informational video on deploying the flip-pac. The owner narrates. The badging on the fender represents the Golen built power plant. The suspension was engineered on the Jeepspeed platform. The overland equipment is all Adventure Trailers. If a trailer would be considered part of a build, that is my ultimate goal. The company had build a matching trailer but sold it to a persistent overseas client.
  21. This Jeep has been in Jp magazine, attended SEMA, and was featured in JeepFreek Adventure Magazine. More details to come.
