Wanting to keep the tires/wheels I have as rollers to put on for winter storage (the Nokian's will likely flat-spot since they're so soft) so I had a buddy who manages a police fleet garage hook me up with 6 OEM steel wheels to mount the track tires on. Unfortunately, 3 of the 6 are tweaked and not usable or won't balance in spec so I had to hit craigslist to look for some cheapie wheels - figured if I'm gonna throw money at the wheel issue, they should be lighter and allow good heat dissipation. Found these for $230. A little blingy but they'll do the trick. Hoping to find 2 more, but they're no longer being made by the Mfg. so fingers crossed for another cheap used set. I also found a pair of front door trim pieces on Ebay so those will need scuffed and painted and new adhesive tape applied, but that will help with the appearance. (can't remove the back door trim pieces, Ford put a 1" square hole in the door under those for some damn reason....) Got the hood vent cut down so I'll need to paint that up as well and then cut the hood. Debating on if the vent should be gloss, or flat.

Friggin' hilarious!

"I just helped with a blend for motor on an 04 last week.I can still do one in under 2hr!" No. 1. I didn't know what a "blend for motor" was....... 2. The "I can still do one in under 2hr" part. You said you helped..... so you and the person you helped got it done in under 2hr. 3. When were we talking about blend doors? Those were the basis of my confusion.

$1600 in paintwork - done. It's a 20-footer. Grill surround painted (reduces the visual size of the grill) New headlights and corners Trunk spoiler installed. Jegs packages arrived with the brakes and ignition stuff - Wife goes on a business trip soon..... I think I can squeeze those in between honey-do's...... lol.

Disc brake pads & caliper were why that wheel didn't separate from the car. Had to be noisy though. Yikes.

Glass packs and 2.5" black tips installed today. Definitely NOT a cop car anymore, no sneaking up on anyone....lol. PeteM: Yeah the P71 wheels are the tattletales of the brakes the car has. '06-'11 wheels have a serious off set and negative dish to them to accommodate the quite large calipers. The PowerStop Z26 brakes were ordered last night so I'm looking forward to seeing the difference as the OEM brakes are pretty damn good - this coming from a guy that is used to the amazing brakes on the Hellcat. I'm about $4400 into this car now and not much else on the list to buy for it other than a cheapie paint job so I'll "done" with the build at just under $6K I'm projecting.

Well, time to resurrect yet another of my old threads....... this post has kind of a deja-vu kind of theme.... December '15 I'd sold the 'Vic and picked up a 5.9 R/T Dakota. Dakota got sold in '16. Here I am now in August '18...... and have both a Dakota and a 'Vic again...... lol! I've posted the Dakota before but for this thread I'll just re-iterate - Kenne Bell supercharged 5.2 and Hurst 5 speed, lowered suspension. And a couple weeks ago, I brought home an '08 P71 'Vic with 84K miles (and only 1172 running hours.....) and the rediculous water based paint peel issue. Super clean inside as it was a supervisor car, so never had a cage in it and the agency that had it, used a unitized center console for computer and radio so no holes in the dash. They put a brand new windshield in, tinted the windows and cleared out the massive police wiring harness too. '06-'11 'Vics have the big brakes, big sway bars, heavy duty springs/suspension.... in short..... amazing track cars. Which is what this one will be for me. Road Course and Auto Cross time! I actually have a build fund for this car, so this is happening. Already grabbed up a set of 6 track tires (235/55/17 Nokian Z Line summer performance) for a whopping $580. Will be placing a Jegs order for an Accel coil pack set and NGK plugs, PowerStop Z26 front and rear drilled/slotted rotor and pad kit, and possibly an OBD2 digital gauge interface so I can keep an eye on the temps, pressures, conditions. I intend to hit the junk yards to find the push bar bracket that sticks out of the front bumper so I can fab up a D-ring mount/track tow point (worn out taxi P71's are getting dumped by the hundreds into the yards around here). Gonna get it re-painted white, will flat black the hood, add a Mach 1 chin spoiler and picked up a custom trunk spoiler that will be flat black, and thinking of putting a Boss 302 style hockey stick or "C" side stripe kinda thing just to break up all that white..... and kinda fit the theme I seem to have going with the Hellcat and Dakota. Or maybe get silly and paint the wheels Brass Monkey (like the Hellcat) and put a black vinyl Hello Kitty graphic where the Hellcat head would be on the fender.....lol. If I find that I really take to the road course thing, I'll add a 6 point cage and harnesses and maybe some performance mods to boost HP (maybe a belt driven hair dryer since all my other rides are "aspirationally enhanced".... I've thrown these cars around our training track back when we used to do pursuit driving training (a BMW club owned road course track) for years and they're a hoot! So, since my insurance (and my wife) won't let me run the Hellcat on the track, this will have to do. All said and done, I'll have maybe $4500/$5000 into it. So, yeah..... I'm no longer a Comanche owner. I've developed other interests and am pursuing them.... but Comanche's will always occupy a huge part of my soul - automotively speaking anyway. So, if y'all don't mind - I'll hang around, watch you guys play with your MJ's.

Ok, maybe I figured it out, I looked at my profile and "content I follow" and saw that for some reason I had about 8 members listed there that were being followed. I believe I figured out how to un-follow them and none are listed there any more. Sound right?

For some reason I can't figure out....... Every time user "a bum with money" posts in a thread, not just one particular thread, I get a notification. 2 days ago I turned ALL notifications off, but yet I continue to get notified when "a bum with money" posts up.

Sad day......... it's official. My '91 Eliminator has been sold. It wasn't for sale, but everything has a price and a good friend and his son made me a very good offer that I took as it was better it be built and enjoyed rather than holding down asphalt in the storage lot. I now have NO Comanche's. Just a long bed MJ trailer. Gonna be pursuing other interests and projects, do some road course racing, work on my yard art stuff.... maybe even get started on my '46 Olds. I'll be around to peddle my parts horde - please do check out the classifieds for my craigslist ad links! Great stuff still available! These silly little trucks will always have a place in my heart and I'm not going to rule out ever owning one again in the future. But for now, I must move on. I'll be poking my head in pretty frequently though as I still enjoy following what you guys are doing/building.

I have no words.......... Ok, maybe a few words....... Ok so the ad reads: "Bad transmission. 6.5 diesel Smokes and runs rough when cold. Lots of new parts." Bad transmission - probably due to that abomination blocking the trans cooler...... Runs rough when cold - probably due to that abomination and FOUR fans making it more like a swamp cooler???? New parts - shouldn't include that abomination and the FOUR fans.....

That spider pic just solicited A BUNCH of profane words and spinal chills........ EFF THAT!

Ok, certainly not gonna be yard art........ but I picked up this groovy 1930's service station oil tank "lubester" for $40. Turning it into a display case. It's missing the drain and lid - probably be hard to find. Will have the entire thing media blasted (it's got probably 4 different paint colors under the gray) then I'll have to decide what oil brand theme to make it.....
-
"Clear by the responses here that none of you know what Danish Oil is or have ever used it. " Well instead of scolding me....... how 'bout you enlighten me? Hence the reason for this thread.
-
Yeah I have huge hesitations about using an oil based anything on it as it seems to me the oil would just get under the clear/varnish and encourage it to keep lifting. The light coats of poly seems like a better option. Light coats should keep the moisture of the new from reconstituting the old and creating bubbling or lifting..... I'd imagine. I can keep it as is I suppose. The pics posted are after I used a damp microfiber cloth and gave it a light scrubbing to knock off a majority of the flaky stuff. Being that this will be a wall hanger, I just want to give it a surface that can be wiped down without being something that really hangs onto the dust and catches lint/fuzzies from being wiped down later on...... The painted "Gene's Conoco" part is somewhat offset to the left... I'm hoping I can find a small tin/steel Conoco sign/emblem or maybe a tin Conoco wall thermometer or something with good patina to attach to it there. Just looks a bit off center. It came with the side panels, those used to have green plastic letters and some sort of Conoco logo piece nailed to them. Was thinking of putting those on the bed of the '66 GMC C10 I have. Unfortunately the stake pockets are smaller and farther apart than the stakes on the panels.... not sure how I'll make it work yet.

Attention folks that work with wood! I picked up this groovy old back-board section that used to be on a '56 Ford truck associated with an old Conoco gas station. (You know, those truck bed side boards used to advertise - this spanned the back connecting the two side boards). Anyhow, was very well built and the wood was clear coated or shellacked (?) and that coating is peeling. I want to preserve it's "patina" so, so far I've taken a wet terry cloth towel and gave the surface a rub down to remove dirt and the loose bits of lifting coating. The painted lettering - some of which is done in reflective paint - was done over the coating so there are areas where the lettering has come off as the coating lifts from the wood. So...... if I were to use a matte finish clear coat product, either brush on or aerosol, would that likely cause some lifting/bubbling of the old coating? If I were to use a wood restorer product like Kramer's Best Antique Improver http://www.kramerize.com/ Is that oily product a bad thing to do? Would that likely cause more lifting of the old coating? I've used this on old wood that was natural and old wood that had been stained. It does seem to soften and smooth up the wood surface but it also tends to darken the tone...... not sure what it'd do to this back board. Any ideas - preferred proven ones - on how best to preserve this board? Thanks in advance!

yellaheep replied to Pete M's topic in Rocky Mountains
Well it was great to meet up with you guys! Didn't get to talk to Pete much, but his wealth of knowledge sure was being drawn on by most if not all of us at some point. White was the overall theme with the MJ's in attendance, 3 in white, 1 black and 1 gold. My white '97 Dakota was present to painfully remind us what took the place of the MJ. Most excellent grilling done by Scott! Thank you sir! Great burgers with all the fixings! I had fun with Matt showing me the beater '87 long bed he'd picked up recently and helping him discover that it had a few of the more rare options: Tow package, D44 with what we believe is equipped with limited slip, and the factory fold in tow mirrors with internal support brackets. Thanks to Jason for hosting the little get together! Lots of cool builds/projects going on at his place - a 2 door XJ camper trailer in the works, a Toyota FJ45 with a diesel and South American built wood stake bed (super cool and detailed woodwork), '98 Dodge Cummins quad cab with a super-built 12 valve, and his massively well built CJ Scrambler with an LS engine on 42's and a WJ with 4.7 on custom ford 9" front and rear axles under super flexy suspension..... lots to drool over!
