  1. The bumper is off ... I just need to get the fog lights off the bumper and am wanting to be sure that putting the torque to that 15mm nut is the right thing to do. thanks!
  2. Okay I have a dumb question-- any idea how to get the fogs off the bumper on a '91 XJ without breaking them? There's a 15mm nut on the end of the stud and a 3/4" or so nut behind that. The 15 mm won't budge and the 3/4 will loosen down to the point that it hits the 15mm nut. I can put my impact on the 15 and make it move I'm sure but I wanted to see what the trick is before I break something! thanks! Brandon
  3. But wait -- does this prove that I'm insane?!? Don't tell my wife if so! :) Well I know the 2 bone-stock '92 MJ's (current one was 1 owner) and the 93 XJ parts rig that I had/have all have a 231 and no disconnnect on the front axle. All are 5 speeds and the MJ's have a Dana 35 rear-end and the XJ an 8.25. So I guess it just proves that Chrysler wasn't any better than AMC about being consistent! 4. Just a note that a stock 91 MJ shouldn't have a factory disconnect axle. I know all YJ's had them but I believe in '90 they got rid of it for XJ's/MJ's. I know neither 92 that I have/had were disconnect. If your 91 has it could mean some modifications were done somewhere along the way (?). Brandon '92 MJ '97 XJ Numerous other J's
  5. I've had both. I had a 5.9 that I bought with 20K miles on it in 1999. I can say it was the fastest and coolest piece of junk that I've owned! I've had about every flavor of Jeep and the 5.9 just wasn't designed to stay together. When the transmission started to go at 35K it promptly got traded. The sound. luxury, and muscle still call my name at times but when you read about rear-ends, transmission, transfer cases, etc there's no way I can afford to keep on on the road, not to mention all the power and electronics that are quickly aging. Finally, you are supposed to put 91 octane or higher in them which is unreal these days! My current daily driver is a '92 MJ and my wife's is a '97 XJ and even with the quirks each has, I consider them reliable and something I can work on and averaging 19-20mpg in each isn't bad. Just my opinion! :) Brandon
  6. I'm getting ready to do this on my '92 (with a '93 donor). Anyone figured out if it's possible to move the odometer forward (112K to 177K) on a 91+? I've seen some posts on NAXJA but didn't find any concrete answers. thanks! Brandon
  7. Anyone have a source for new MJ emergency brake cables? Also -- what is involved in replacing them? thanks! Brandon '92 4.0/5spd/4x4
  8. I have a pair from a 97 that I bought for mine but I'm not going to use. Gets you the bigger window and nicer door panel and these are manual windows (power mirrors) which is pretty rare to find in the newer ones. Doors are complete (minus mirrors) and in good shape and I need $275 for the pair + shipping from 65201. Brandon houghb@missouri.edu
  9. The doors on my '92 are about shot. I've found a decent price on a set of front doors from a 97 Cherokee. They're appealing since the seals, etc would be that much newer and the newer door panels. Few questions: 1) Will they bolt right up? Hinges/latches/etc all the same? 2) My truck currently has manual windows/locks. Will I ever be able to get the power windows/locks/mirrors to work? If each door gets a hot wire and a ground and possibly a wire run between the 2 doors is anything else needed? Or is there much more to do in a fuse box somewhere? 3) Anyone else done this? thanks for any help! Brandon
  10. Finally settled on a '92 Comanche and now i'm in the dreaming stage! It has a broken-down bench and I was initially thinking of doing XJ buckets. However I have 2 small children and if I do that I'll never be able to take them both even though this is a 3rd vehicle and doesn't really need to. Has anyone researched adding a bench with an armrest or a 60/40 similar to what's in late model Ranger's, etc? I did a search but didn't find any chatter about using non-Jeep seats. thanks!
