Guys theres a 87 4x4 automatic cherokee in my area on the cheap. Now he says it doesnt have a motor but has all the other components, so assuming it was a 4 Liter, would it be a aw4/np231/d30 front? Havent gotten an email back yet about the missing motor or have been able to go out to take a look. I need to act quickly though, cause the price is right. Thanks!

Hey thanks for the help Geo. Tomorrow my brother is going to look at the cherokee for me. Like I said its a 90 4x4 auto with a 30/35. So will the transmission and transfercase will be compatible with the 44? Now you say do I want to go through with changing it to auto.... do you mean this as just a personal thing or is it a major project converting to auto?? I guess I would have a new list of parts needed to be rounded up. (steering column/linkage) Also I want to change the color of the interior from the dark blue to gray. Can I use the door panels and dash out of this cherokee? Is that all compatible?

Guys what about automatics? I have an opportunity to pick up a 90 Cherokee 4wd auto with a 30 up front and a 35 in the back. How does that stack up with a 4L/d44 MJ? Is an 90 4x4auto the same between MJ/XJ?

So to clarify, I need to find an 88-96 cherokee/mj 4x4 with a 4L/5speed and ill be in good shape as far as parts.?

Okay, but the AX-15 was the only manual that came behind a 4L right? Regardless of 2wd or 4wd?

Hypothetically, If I were to start with a 88 MJ 4.0 liter 5spd 2wd with D44 rear and I wanted to go 4wd with a 2.5 liter 4x4 MJ, will I have all the parts needed to get it done? Anything thats not compatible or should be changed? Also does the 5spd need anything? Thanks, Greg
