  1. i was going about 65 mph.You are very right about how far you have to turn the wheel to get any movement. J B Cuz
  2. Last Friday on the way home I found one of Minnesota's largest pot holes. I hit it with the RF tire and it snapped the lower track bar bolt. I got it stopped without hitting anything but man was my heart rate up there. Called a friend who brought a bolt and nut and then drove it the rest of the way home. Saturday I drilled out the hole and put in a 1/2 bolt. J B Cuz
  3. Weld a 3/4 nut onto the stud an just take them out with a wrench. use a bigger nut so you can see where the stud is when welding. J B Cuz
  4. There are two things to make sure to do. One, is to have the backlash as close to the original as possible and second, to make sure there is enough preload when you install the carrier into the case. I needs to fit tight so things do not move around. J B Cuz
  5. In my 87 the vacume is always on if the heater control is in any position other then off. J B Cuz
  6. I got the code reader today and the computer is seeing 192 deg and the gauge still show 160. The IR reader is still showing 160 also but I hav :dunno: e been told that reading though the metal will change the temp. The good part is the computer is reading correct, the bad part is my mileage still sucks and is was barking up the wrong tree. Back the the manuals. J B Cuz
  7. I covered the radiator with cardboard and the temp stays the same. Heater output is OK but not great. I am trying to find someone local that has a real time code reader for the renix, this way I could see what temp the computer thinks it is. J B Cuz
  8. installed the jeep stat and there is no change in the engine temp. There are differances in the construction. The jeep stat has a small bleed hole in it. J B Cuz
  9. I have used the IR to check in multipal places, t stat housing heater core inlet, at t he temp sender on the block, at the temp sender on the manifold computer input, they all check around 140. checked another truck TJ and it showed 200 at the t stat. I also check it against boiling water @ 225 deg. I will try the factory t stat. Thanks J B Cuz
  10. I have an 87 2.5l 5spd 4x4.The engine temp is around 140 deg according to the gauge and an infra red tester. Needless to say the computer will not go into closed loop and my milage sucks. When I started the build I ran radiator cleaner the the system to clean every thing up. I have replaced the radiator water pump the t stat (twice thought ((one NAPA one stant)) I had a bad one. runs the same as the first) and all the hoses. I am at a loss as to what could be going on? J B Cuz
  11. I found out the problem. The free motor I put in was from a 90 wrangler. It used the belt system and the MJ uses serpentine. The change also affects the direction the water pump rotates. I installed the reverse rotation pump and it works great. So, after spending all the money I know my cooling system is all up to par. J B Cuz
  12. I put in a new to me engine and now when I run it the temp gauge pegs after a short run time. I have put in a new radiator, hoses, t stat, and a heater diverter. I have read in some posts about air trapped in the system, and think that is my problem. How do you get it out? J B Cuz
  13. On older trucks the regulator is built into the case of the alternator. Specifically the Delco design. On newer trucks the with the ND alt the regulator is built into the PCM. J B Cuz
  14. thanks for the help. i am going to try a ford voltage regulator. Is there any where on line I can look at the 91 wiring to find out which of the 2 wires is stator and field/ J B Cuz
  15. I changed all the brackets on my 87 2.5l so I could mount an AC compressor to use the AC as an air pump. My trouble comes down to the alternator. The one in my 87 was a delco and i need to use the ND to mount up to the brackets. I know the heavy wires black to ground and red to battery. The small wires on the delco are yellow and tan and on the ND they are green and green w/orange trace. what combination should i use? J B Cuz
  16. The three positions for these lights are; Centered is turned off. Rocked one way turns only this light on (black wire). Rock the other way and the light turns on and off with the door switch near the hinge (black wire white trace) J B Cuz
  17. I just welded up one of theses for a friend and it turned out great. it cost about 220.00 + 80 for the frame braces. www.ironscorpion.com/cart/index.php?act ... roductId=9 J B Cuz
  18. I was planning on the AW 4. I have allready grafted on in to my 98 TJ and it works great. I am just wondering hoe it would preform before doing the work. Chuck
  19. I am thinking of changing the 5 speed on my 87 to the auto. My question is how will it preform with 33/34" tires and 4.88 gears?
