Fuel injector question
jmderyke replied to Hammloaderman's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The gm TBI injectors are the same size from mid 80s to late 90s and yes will fit in the Jeep 2.5 TBI. The difference is the amount of fuel they deliver. If memory serves me right the Jeep TBI injector delivers around 48pph. I could be wrong any here's a list I'd grab a few different ones from a junk yard and try them out. The 4.3l is the closest which there was two injectors on that engine like most of the GM tbi TBI Injectors xxxxxxx - color / color - 33pph - 2.8l and 3.1l xxxxxxx - color / color - 45pph - 4.3l engine NOTE: Some came with 2 differant size injectors? 5235279 - White / Green - 54pph - 5.0L / 305 Cars/Trucks 5235206 - Orange / Black - 61pph - 5.7L / 350 Cars/Trucks 17084327 - Yellow / Brown - 65pph - 5.7L / 350 Police Package 17084304 - Black / Blue - 74pph - 7.4L / 454 - 91-93 5235231 - Red / Blue - 80pph - 7.4L / 454 - 88-90 17104288 - Pink / Purple - 46pph @13psi - 7.4L / 454 - 94-95 *NOTE: Came with 30 PSI regulator used @ 26-32psi for 67-72pph And all honesty I'd buy a new radiator, you can get a all aluminum one on eBay for a 100 dollars. The Jeep wranglers 2.5 same year will fit, not the 87. -
Anyone know much about the 2.5 liter?
jmderyke replied to Hammloaderman's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Don't ignore the obvious, if the fuel pump is all the sudden making a funny noise I'd check the fuel pressure. Running should be between 14-15 psi. If thats good Check the intake air temperature sensor resistance and coolant temperature sensor when at operating temp, must below 1000 ohms, mine is usually around 250ohms. If way higher resistance is read that would be telling the computer the engine is cold when it really isn't making it rich. -

I've learned the 2.5 TBI very well and I keep wanting to post a complete guide to keeping it going and diagnostic repairs with pictures.... Time is a problem for me. Anyway here's something that might help for now. http://www.4wdmechanix.com/Tuning-and-Troubleshooting-the-2.5L-Jeep-TBI-Four?r=1 If the vacuum lines are old replace them all, especially the map sensor vacuum line. -
Mine does the same, but due to a auto locker.

Ok my situation is the power steering brackets broke on my 86 2.5l. After some time of searching on eBay and local junk yards I can't find a matching one. Anyone have them? Or option two convert the v belt to serpentine, which the easiest answer would be find a donor 2.5l (maybe a 4.0?)with all the serpentine parts on it. I know I will need a new water pump (since rotation will b different). Has anyone done this conversion? I noticed some of the crank pulleys specs change through the years so if this has been done before some time saving advice would be much appreciated! Thanks!

You bet! Let me know!

Yeah thanks but it won't work I have a manual ax5. The linkage for auto it far too long... Unless I cut it..
-
I could cut and weld on some stock bar to make the difference I guess

So I ditched my np207 and had a np242 from a automatic cherokee sitting around and put that in after my ax5 rebuild. My transfer case linkage won't work for the 242 since where it bolts to the tc is back further than the 207 was. I tried the linkage from the Cherokee and its way too long. Do I need the linkage from a later manual jeep? Help!

We run them on our forest service utility rigs. They do fairly well, as a AT tire. They get better grip than the bfg at and last about the same maybe a little longer. Mud clears from them, fairly well and grip in snow. For a while we had the goodyear wrangler duratrac tires, I can't say enough bad things about those tires.....we don't use them anymore. Anyway back to the maxx tires.. They do hold more rocks and send them flying at highway speeds. They have a good rubber compound that seems to last. I used to be a bfg at guy, but there quality has changed and I wanted more grip. I'm running the discoverer stt on my Comanche and will be as long as they make them. For how aggressive they are they are lasting very well. I'd say do it!

2.5 Stumbles under load
jmderyke replied to jgoodman1988's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thought of something else, check your egr valve. It might be stuck open, or have constant vacuum to the valve letting constant exhaust gas into the intake. Why maybe it gets worse when hot and idles like crap. I'd disconnect the vacuum hose to valve and plug it to see if that fixes it. -

I had this similar issue, mine was the map sensor vacuum hose connection. Ase a rule i follow, if you have one vacuum leak... you have another. Replace all your vacuum hoses, they are cheap. And I'd double check your tps resistance values. -
great! Thanks for the help, I was hoping it would be that easy!

I have a 86 np 207 and I'm looking to put in the 231 21 spline in behind my ax5. I have the cable speedo and most 231 21 spline have the electric speedo. Anyone know if I can keep my old cable speedo with a different speedo gear? Or what parts I would need?
