2.5 blocks

I was wondering if anybody could tell me if the 2.5 blocks are the same

from 84' on. Also if the haeds are set up any different. Any help on this

would be great.

 

yep they're the same, but 84-85 I think had a provision for a mechanical fuel pump or something along those lines. it's easy to block off.

Thanks for the info, I've got an 84' xj doner, for my 89' manche . and the bottom end of the 2.5 in the mj is knocking pretty good, the 2.5 in the xj runs pretty good. Thanks again,

you have to swap over your intake and exhaust manifolds to work

 

while you're at it, do a valve lap. $70 for a full gasket and seal kit too.

 

wanna sell me your crankshaft and one good connecting rod?...I need them for my old 2.5 that was in my xj (which has an 88mj 2.5 in it)

My 1986 2.5L has the provision on the passenger side of the block for a mechanical fuel pump. All the factory did was bolt a block off plate over it when they went to TBI in 1986. It is the same block as the 1984 and 1985 Cherokee 2.5L. I don't know if they ever changed the casting of the 2.5L block. If they did I don't know when. I would bet the 1987, 1988, 1989, and 1990 still have the Provision for the mechanical fuel pump on the passenger side of the block with a block off plate bolted over it from the factory. I don't know if they changed the 2.5L block in 1991 when they went from TBI to MPI or not.

yep. that's what that blocking plate is then. it was loose on my new motor and causing me to leak quite a bit of oil before...

 

my motor came out of an 88. the motor that was in my 86 has the blockoff plate as well.

 

if you need one, I can get you the plate.
