Dan Schachner
I am fabricating a flatbed for my shortbed 91 and I had a question about the fuel tank. I need to fab up new mounts for the fuel tank and thought it could be a chance to go to a 23 gallon tank since I can accommodate the extra support strap. Also, I don't need to worry about the filler neck position since there won't be the bedsides in that spot. Moving it further back is actually better for the boxes I want to make for it. My question is, will a fuel pump and sender unit for the 23 gallon tank work with my current fuel gauge? Or will the original pump and unit from the 18 gal tank work? 89 MJ
The 23 gallon tank will run into the rear axle on a SWB truck. If you tried to move it forward, I would suspect it would run into some of the cab support stuff. If you want more fuel capacity, I would look at something that could occupy the space where the spare tire went originally.
